Sun’s colossal form swept across the surface of the river.

In the sky, the Wind God Winged Dragon King watched its prey escape. Wary of the unknown terror in the river, it could only let out a series of furious, helpless roars.

It knew that once they crossed the Canglan River, they would be outside its territory.

Having narrowly escaped death, Kado and Gordo lay sprawled on the beach, gasping for breath.

Kado glanced back at the still-turbulent river, then up at the enemy circling in the sky. A look of lingering fear crossed his face.

Just a moment ago, if they had been a second slower, he feared he would have ended up like that other Wind God Winged Dragon—food for the monsters underwater.

Giants were masters of the land, but if they were dragged into deep water, their inability to swim meant their fate would be no better than that of any common prey.

Kado and Gordo climbed out of the craters, spitting sand from their mouths.

Kado plopped down, his massive body making the beach tremble. He wiped the cold sweat from his face and looked back at the still-churning river, his heart pounding with residual fear.

Kado cursed, his voice hoarse with exhaustion.

"We almost ended up as fish food. The kind that gets swallowed whole."

Just the thought of that Giant Beast in the river, hundreds of meters long, was enough to make his skin crawl.

Gordo stood to one side, silently brushing the dust from his clothes. His bronze-colored face was impassive, but his slightly trembling shoulders betrayed his inner turmoil.

As Hill Giants, they were used to rampaging across the land unopposed. They had never been in such a pathetic state.

"ROAR!"

An indignant roar from the sky snapped them out of their relief at having survived.

The Wind God Winged Dragon King hadn’t left. It circled in the air, its scarlet eyes locked on the figures on the beach, filled with savagery and rage.

Its prey had slipped through its grasp, and it couldn’t let the insult stand.

Though it feared the monster in the river, its prey was now on land. It had no reason to give up.

With a piercing shriek, the Wind God Winged Dragon King beat its wings. Like a vast, dark cloud, it swept down from the sky, crossed the river with unstoppable momentum, and dove at them once more!

"Run!"

Kado’s expression changed dramatically. His nerves, which had just begun to relax, instantly snapped taut.

He leaped to his feet and, without a word to Raylo, took off running inland.

Gordo reacted just as quickly, following close behind him.

The two Giants ran with huge strides, each step leaving a heavy footprint and sending rumbles through the earth, as if they were two moving hills.

"Let’s go, Sun!"

Raylo said.

"GRAAAH!"

Sun let out a low roar and spread its wings. Flying low to the ground, its massive body kicked up a storm of wind and sand.

A chase unfolded, pitting the ground against the sky.

The Wind God Winged Dragon King was incredibly fast. The gales from its wings carved two deep trenches in the ground below.

It kept descending, its sharp talons nearly reaching Gordo’s back.

Amid the whistling wind, they could even smell the foul stench of the sky’s overlord.

Kado and Gordo ran at their absolute top speed. Trees in their path were snapped like twigs, and boulders were crushed underfoot, raising a great cloud of dust and debris with a tremendous clamor.

However, speed was not a Giant’s forte. Compared to the overlord of the sky, their running seemed clumsy and slow.

The distance between them was closing at a visible rate.
