Global Game: Developing a Knight Clan
Chapter 390 - 48: Ascender, Sinful God?
Sitting inside a security vehicle from the Giant Technology Corporation.
At this moment, Cheng Hua still couldn’t make heads or tails of the situation.
"Mr. Cheng Hua, congratulations. You have successfully obtained the status of an Ascender."
"You may still have many questions, but we can’t say much more right now."
"In any case, as per procedure, Mr. Cheng Hua, could you first review this report on your information to see if there are any errors?"
The lead Guard addressed Cheng Hua respectfully.
"Alright."
What else could Cheng Hua say?
These were Inner City Guards from the Eco-Urban Circle, and their authority in the Outer City was immense.
The lead Guard carefully picked up a tablet-like projection device.
Then, looking at the text on the projection tablet, he began to speak calmly:
"Cheng Hua, age 20, single. Current residence: 112th Street Block, Feite District, in the outer ring of the Giant Ecological City."
"Parents deceased at an early age. Currently living alone. Employed at a nutrient solution company in the Feite District."
"According to our records, you are two years away from having enough merit points to be promoted to supervisor of Workshop Number Seven at the nutrient solution company."
"Mr. Cheng Hua, do you find any errors or omissions in this record?"
Cheng Hua had nothing to say about the information report.
"No errors or omissions. That’s more or less my situation."
"So, Mr. Guard, can you tell me now? What is an Ascender?"
Cheng Hua was very curious about this title, "Ascender."
’But,’ he thought, ’this is probably just this world’s term for a Transcendent, right?’
Hearing this, the lead Guard thought for a moment before finally saying:
"Given that your background is indeed clean, Mr. Cheng Hua."
"Well, I can only tell you that by becoming an Ascender, Commoners like you, Mr. Cheng Hua, with no special background, gain the qualification to officially become a member of the Eco-City."
"In other words, the qualification to become an employee of the Giant Technology Corporation!"
"As for anything more, that’s beyond what our clearance allows us to tell you."
"However, Mr. Cheng Hua, there’s no need to be anxious. Once you are inside the Eco-City, a specialist from the company’s personnel department will be assigned to explain everything."
The lead Guard studied Cheng Hua carefully, his tone as calm as possible as he spoke.
"Is that so?"
Cheng Hua knew when to stop, trying his best to act like a native of this world.
"I see. So, Mr. Guard, how should I address you?"
"No need for formalities, Mr. Cheng Hua. You can just call me Zane!"
Zane looked at the lucky young man before him with deep envy in his heart.
’An Ascender...’
In the Giant Technology Company’s Eco-Urban Circle, there was a total population of about 1.4 million people.
But so far, there were fewer than a thousand Ascenders.
Ascenders, without a doubt, were the favored children of this world, of this Dark age!
Unfortunately, it was incredibly difficult for an ordinary person to become an Ascender.
Even for the upper echelons of the various large corporate conglomerates, the difficulty of having their descendants become Ascenders was terrifyingly high.
And while cases like Cheng Hua’s—a Commoner suddenly awakening the qualifications of an Ascender—had happened before, the probability was about the same as winning the lottery.
As for how Cheng Hua was discovered by people from inside the Eco-City the moment he became an Ascender, the answer was simple.
The Giant Ecological City possessed the Power to absolutely monitor everything inside and outside the entire Eco-Urban Circle.
This was true on both a technological level and an Ascender level.
In short, as long as someone inside or outside the Eco-Urban Circle became an Ascender, they would inevitably be discovered by the Giant Technology Company in the first instance.
That was why Zane and his team had suddenly shown up at Cheng Hua’s home.
Zane’s attitude was exceptionally good.
This also indirectly helped Cheng Hua understand the "value" of a so-called Ascender.
But the better his attitude, the more hesitant and uncertain Cheng Hua felt.
’Are Transcendents really that rare in this world?’
’From what I can feel, those dark gray Extraordinary Particles are everywhere, aren’t they?’
But when Cheng Hua considered the harsh living conditions outside the Eco-Urban Circle and the fact that ordinary people had no idea what an Ascender even was, he knew this matter was definitely not as simple as he thought.
Moreover, during his previous Meditation, Cheng Hua hadn’t noticed anything abnormal about the dark gray particles he was absorbing.
But now that he was awake, feeling the Energy of the few dark gray Extraordinary Particles flowing within him, Cheng Hua inexplicably felt a very alarming Spiritual feedback.
This Spiritual feedback was as if it was constantly reminding Cheng Hua that if he absorbed too many of these dark gray Extraordinary Particles, when the time came for him to rely on this Power to advance from the apprentice stage to the "Entry Tier" stage, a danger beyond his imagination would certainly appear.
So, he did his best to suppress the alarm and uncertainty in his heart.
Cheng Hua immediately continued:
"Mr. Zane, well, since you can’t tell me the specific details about Ascenders..."
"...what are you able to tell me?"
For a rare moment, Cheng Hua dared to look the Guard straight in the eye.
The meaning behind his words was already quite obvious.
As for Zane, being a smart man, he naturally understood.
So, looking at this imperturbable young man, he thought for a moment before finally saying:
"Since you insist on asking, Mr. Cheng Hua."
"Then I’ll just tell you what little I’m allowed to say."
"Being a so-called Ascender is both an opportunity and the beginning of trouble."
"First, by becoming an Ascender, Mr. Cheng Hua, you will receive unimaginable benefits. For example, these green, natural foods—in the future, you’ll be able to eat as much as you want."
Zane pointed to the roasted meat and several side dishes laid out on the square table between them in the vehicle.
