Global Game: I Have Portable Store
Chapter 660 - 17: The Storm
"Haha, thank you, sir." Weilian took the fish Su Changxing had grilled and found it covered with a layer of red liquid. It looked vibrant and was emitting a fragrant aroma.
"What are these things on top? They smell so good." He examined it and asked.
While grilling the fish, Su Changxing smiled and said, "Some special spices. Try the taste."
Kasmin had just taken a bite and found it incredibly delicious. She asked in surprise, "Where did this spice come from? I’ve never tasted it before."
As a princess, she had tasted almost everything, yet the spice Su Changxing presented was unheard of.
Su Changxing replied, "It’s my special creation. It’s normal you haven’t tasted it before."
He sprinkled chili and cumin on the grilled fish, all processed in the Pocket Galaxy to turn into a Mysterious Item that enhances the flavor of the food.
This method was somewhat wasteful, a trial of his, where he imbued items with simple characteristics based on his understanding.
It might sound exaggerated, but Su Changxing felt this ability was akin to that of a Divine Spirit, creating and transforming.
These spices had been transformed into Mysterious Items. Although they could be called spices, they essentially fooled the senses, making the eater perceive them as delicious, albeit the actual taste was uncertain.
Mysterious power inherently possesses deceptive attributes.
So theoretically, Su Changxing could create spices that change the appearance, taste, and aroma of food. Even if placed on a pile of dung, someone could eat it.
The person eating dung wouldn’t realize he’s eating dung, only that he’s consuming delicious food.
His senses, his brain, told him so.
This is also what Su Changxing has been pondering, about the issues of truth versus illusion.
He suspected that the mundane appearance of Blue Star was deliberately crafted, that the world was not truly like that.
The people of their world had been deceived for thousands of years.
Yet such a world was still preferable to most people, at least compared to an apocalypse.
If it were perpetually like an apocalypse, there would be no apocalypse to speak of.
That night.
As they continued sailing, dark clouds filled the sky, and a gale erupted on the sea, accompanied by light raindrops.
A crew member touched the rain on his face and said, "This seems to be quite a storm. Everyone, be careful."
Gradually, the wind intensified, waves surged up against the cargo ship, and sea water splashed onto the deck, soaking the floor.
Then came lightning and thunder, as if the entire sky was roaring, rain mixed with sea water falling down, the cargo ship swaying amidst the storm.
Weilian’s expression was grave as he shouted, "Such big waves are rare, furl the sails and stabilize Speed!"
Wave after wave struck, but Weilian’s seasoned experience allowed him to handle the situation calmly, several times feeling the ship would capsize, only for it to right itself again.
"It shouldn’t capsize, right..."
Su Changxing muttered, thinking they wouldn’t be so unlucky as to have the ship capsize on just one voyage.
Is that possible?
At the same time.
A huge wave loomed, appearing ominously with a tendency to flip their ship.
Seeing the danger, Su Changxing waved his hand, expanding his Domain, sending chains flying toward the wave to entwine it.
But the sea was too heavy, with wave after wave, growing relentlessly, as if not intent on stopping until they capsized.
At a certain moment, the chains began to break one by one, and the Domain collapsed.
The ship capsized.
Su Changxing felt the icy seawater, catching the edge of the ship with one hand, and grabbing Kasmin with the other.
Kasmin cast a grateful look, then caught the edge of the ship.
They drifted in the waves like this, occasionally submerged by the sea and then resurfacing.
As the cargo ship had completely overturned, seawater poured in, and the large ship slowly sank.
The waves continued, though decreasing compared to before, seeming to gradually calm.
Fortunately, these crew members were exceptionally good swimmers, many still visible on the water’s surface.
Some grabbed onto floating broken masts, others were flung by the waves and vanished from sight.
It wasn’t until the next morning that the waves completely calmed, the sun’s rays spreading over the sea, sparkling on the water, giving an impression of peace completely contrary to last night’s storm.
The sea was littered with debris, and Su Changxing and Kasmin sat on a larger piece of driftwood.
"What do we do now? The ship is gone." Kasmin propped her face with one hand, saying gloomily.
Su Changxing was unfazed, starting a fire on the driftwood to grill fish, "Aren’t there a lot of pirates around here? It works out well, their ships may be small, but they can still reach Maelon."
Kasmin thought for a moment and said, "What if we don’t encounter those pirates? Wouldn’t we be stranded at sea?"
"Don’t think about such depressing things. Eat the fish first." Su Changxing handed her a grilled fish.
There are also quite a few scattered crew members around, all clinging to pieces of debris, and Weilian was among them.
His face didn’t look good. He hadn’t taken a fall in many years, but this one time, he ran into Su Changxing and his group.
Things sometimes just happen this way.
"Sir, we did our best yesterday, it’s just that the storm was too strong, flipping the ship from underneath, and I didn’t have much of a choice," Weilian said, his face full of distress, fearing Su Changxing might think it was intentional.
"Eat some fish, eat some fish."
Su Changxing smiled and handed him a skewer of fish. "I’m not an unreasonable person. Yesterday’s storm was indeed very strong. Can you think of how we might leave this place?"
Weilian shrugged and said, "There’s no solution. We might only be able to paddle these pieces of wood to a nearby deserted island and think of other ways, maybe even build a new small boat."
"Some trees on deserted islands are quite light and can be used as materials for building a boat. I know a bit about that."
Su Changxing patted his shoulder, "You’re indeed a seasoned captain."
Weilian smiled awkwardly and said, "It’s calm now, but we need to quickly find a place to land. Otherwise, we won’t last much longer."
The group paddled along the waves, and before long, they saw a medium-sized reef, just big enough to hold all of them.
"Let’s rest here for a bit." Su Changxing leaped onto the reef, looking around. There was nothing but sea in all directions.
Such a situation indeed felt hopeless.
"I guess we’re doomed," a crewman named Levi said dispiritedly, his spirit somewhat dazed. After all, swimming all night in the sea was more than most people could endure.
Most of the crew looked similarly weary; surviving the storm was already very fortunate.
What lay ahead seemed to be more mental and physical torment until their deaths.
Death is vile, and humans often escape such vileness until the very last moment.
Kasmin’s face didn’t look good either. She stood and encouraged, "We still have a chance. This is a shipping route, and it’s likely we might encounter another ship."
"Even if it’s a pirate ship, we can take over their vessel to continue our voyage. If we lose one Rejuvenation, we still have another Rejuvenation to rely on."
As a Princess, her aura was innate, and her words were inspiring. Some crew members felt re-energized after hearing her.
Su Changxing suspected this was a type of spiritual class ability, though Kasmin herself was unaware of her own unconscious use of it.
By noon, someone was lying on the ground, covering their head with their clothes, motionless.
The blazing sun dehydrated them quickly, and soon someone might die from it.
Weilian sat gently on the side, seeing this without saying a word, having anticipated it earlier.
Despite his age, his body was in much better condition than most, though even he might not know why.
"Distribute this water," Su Changxing said, holding a box of glass-bottled water as he walked towards Weilian.
This water was from this world as well. Before setting off, Su Changxing had packed a lot in the Pocket Galaxy, expecting such a situation to arise.
At the time, it was just a precaution, but it turned out to be dramatically necessary.
Weilian looked at the water in Su Changxing’s hands, full of surprise. "Sir, where did this water come from?"
Su Changxing casually made up an excuse to cover it up, "The case of water just floated over from the surface."
"Did it really?"
Weilian said with a silly smile, "Well, thank the Sea God then."
But soon he realized something was off. "Why is the box dry if it floated over from the water?"
Su Changxing shrugged and said, "Who knows, maybe it’s the Sea God’s divine power."
"That’s it then." Weilian realized suddenly, not showing the slightest doubt. He was a superstitious man.
After all, in such a world, being superstitious was the norm, and not having superstitions was abnormal.
Weilian hugged the box and distributed the water to the crew, shouting, "The Sea God has sent us water! Only one bottle per person, don’t take more."
Hearing this, the rest of the crew were stunned one after another.
Could the Sea God actually send us water?
Even the crewman lying on the ground suddenly got up.
Such an act of the divine had not been seen for a long time.
Before sailing, they prayed to the Sea God not to seek the Sea God’s assistance but just to avoid incurring his anger.
The Divine Spirit was lofty, how could they possibly volunteer to aid ordinary mortals?
This was the understanding shared by most people in this world.
The Divine Spirit was of the highest stature, while they were mere servants.
Despite this, for various reasons, many people were not believers as the conditions to become one were extremely rigorous.
Su Changxing only knew of one orthodox sect, the Housheng Sect, which was scarcely seen in Wodan.
