Chapter 37: Chapter 36: Put Up or Shut Up

In the quiet of the night, the sound of the Bone Whistle carried far and clear. The Lizardman Warriors weren’t the only ones to hear the signal; Li Ziyu heard it too.

"The battle begins—"

Li Ziyu shot up from his White Bone Throne, his eyes flashing with a sharp glint. With a forceful wave of his hand, the entire Mobile Fortress instantly entered combat mode. All the Undead awakened, their blue Soul Fires flaring to life.

The Lizardman Warriors crouched low, sprinting like the lizards of their Ancestors. As they ran, they smoothly drew wooden-shafted Javelins from their backs and hurled them. Hundreds of Javelins traced a parabolic arc through the night sky, descending upon the Mobile Fortress.

This was a probing attack. The Lizardman Warriors hadn’t even thrown with much force. They often used such initial volleys to gauge an enemy’s capabilities and determine their fighting style.

If the enemy dodged, they could observe their speed and deduce that they lacked a tight battle formation—after all, formations cluster together, leaving little room to evade. If the enemy didn’t dodge and simply took the hits, they could learn about their defenses and look for weaknesses to exploit.

But when the Javelins reached the Mobile Fortress, the Lizardmen were dumbfounded. The enemy didn’t dodge or defend. Instead, the Skeleton Undead simply reached out their arms, snatched the Javelins out of the air, and pulled them into the fortress, where they vanished without a trace.

’What the hell? Who steals weapons in the middle of a battle?!’

The Lizardman Warriors were thoroughly annoyed.

In truth, Ah Mu had seen this before. Many of the Spears his old Tribe had thrown were stolen in exactly the same way. But he hadn’t shared that detail with these Lizardman Warriors. ’They’re too arrogant,’ he thought. ’They look down on me. Fine, you think you’re so tough? Be my guest. Heh.’

The first wave of Javelins had been useless, even stolen by the enemy. But the Lizardman Warriors didn’t stop. They drew their second Javelins. Their training dictated a two-wave ranged assault: the first to probe, the second to kill.

Another few hundred Javelins flew, but this time they weren’t lobbed. They were thrown in a direct, upward trajectory for maximum piercing Power.

The Undead reached out again, hoping to reap another bounty, but this time the Javelins’ Power was too great. They couldn’t catch them. The projectiles slammed into the Bone Wall one after another with a series of sharp, cracking sounds.

Only because they were Undead could they take such a hit. Had it been any other Race, getting hit by such Javelins unprepared would have most likely resulted in significant casualties.

The Undead forming the Bone Wall, though struck by the Javelins, paid them no mind. They even had the presence of mind to pull the weapons from their bones and pass them into the fortress.

Nearly a thousand Javelins were now piled up in the Castle Main Tower. A smile touched Li Ziyu’s lips. ’Thanks for the Javelins, my dear friends,’ he thought. ’These Lizardmen are just so adorable, making house calls to deliver presents. Please, come back any time.’

After two volleys of Javelins, the Lizardman Warriors drew their Curved Sabers and charged the Undead Mobile Fortress. Some of the Lizardmen were even faster than the rest, darting through the crowd as they closed in on the Mobile Fortress. These were the scouts.

But scouts weren’t just for scouting. They were adept fighters in their own right. In battle, they didn’t engage in frontal assaults; they performed decapitation strikes, acting as Assassins.

Faced with hundreds of enemies from all sides, Li Ziyu showed no hint of panic. Instead, a wide grin spread across his face, his expression filled with excitement. The battle was like a flame, setting his heart ablaze.

’A quick scan told him the Lizardmen far outnumbered his own forces. Their charge was ferocious. ’A direct confrontation would put my Undead at a severe disadvantage,’ Li Ziyu thought. ’I have a Mobile Fortress; I should obviously make use of it.’

Li Ziyu commanded the Mobile Fortress to pick up Speed and began to rampage through the enemy ranks. The sheer oppressive presence of the fortress crashing through the crowd was astonishing. Even with their high-caliber training, no Lizardman Warrior would consider ramming the fortress with their own body. That wasn’t bravery; it was stupidity.

After the Mobile Fortress scattered the Lizardman Warriors’ formation, the Skeleton Undead immediately broke into small squads and charged down. They didn’t go for the kill. Instead, three to five Undead would grab a lone Lizardman Warrior by the arms and legs, refusing to let go, and begin dragging their captive toward the Mobile Fortress by brute force.

No matter how the Lizardman Warrior struggled, it was useless. Their limbs were restrained, and their opponents were Undead, unafraid of being cut by a Sword. As long as their Soul Fire wasn’t extinguished, they could keep fighting. They would drag the Lizardman Warrior to the Mobile Fortress, where more Skeleton Undead would appear, wielding Spears to finish the job. With a merciless STAB, STAB, STAB, they would kill the Lizardman Warrior and deliver the corpse to Li Ziyu.

Throughout this entire process, the fortress remained in constant motion, forcing a crowd of Lizardmen to give chase. The occasional Warrior who managed to charge onto the fortress was quickly dispatched by the Undead.

"Hiss... these Undead are disgusting! Their tactics are so dirty!"

A few scouts, trailing behind the fortress, howled in frustration as they watched the scene unfold. Yet they didn’t dare to advance. This was completely different from any war they had ever fought. In a normal battle, everyone clashed head-on, and the leader—whether charging at the front or commanding from the rear—was always easy to identify, making a decapitation strike possible.

But this time? They were up against a mobile turtle shell. They hadn’t even laid eyes on the enemy commander, let alone tried a decapitation strike. Instead, it was their own side that was being steadily whittled down.

After being led in circles by the Mobile Fortress several times, the Lizardman Warriors couldn’t take it anymore. This was just shameless! Who fights like this?!

Lizardman combat relied on explosive bursts of Speed; they weren’t built for endurance. If they kept running like this, forget defeating the Undead—their own stamina would be completely exhausted.

The Undead Fortress was perfectly fine, while they had already lost dozens of Warriors.

An imperceptible sneer flashed across Ah Mu’s face. ’Weren’t you all so arrogant?’ he thought. ’So high and mighty? Weren’t you all so sure of yourselves? Weren’t you all mocking me? Go on, then! Kill the Undead! Why have you all gone soft now?’

Having fought the Undead before, Ah Mu had anticipated that they would use similar tactics. That’s why he hadn’t charged in immediately, instead choosing to observe from the rear. He wanted the Undead to teach these arrogant Lizardmen a lesson first.

His goal had been achieved. Now, it was his turn to act. Whether for revenge or for his own future, he had to defeat the Undead. Ever since joining this new Tribe, he had been constantly thinking about how to deal with them. Today, he finally had his chance!

"Breaching team, Charge with me!"

Ah Mu seized the moment the Mobile Fortress drew near. With a sudden roar, he brandished a Javelin and led the Charge toward the fortress. Behind him were more than a dozen burly Lizardman Warriors who exuded an aura of Power. These dozen-plus Lizardmen were covered in scars, clearly battle-hardened. The combat prowess of almost every single one of them was equivalent to Ah Ta, the former First Warrior of his old Tribe.

The members of the breaching team were all powerful experts handpicked by Ah Mu.

The Mobile Fortress zipped past Ah Mu, almost seeming to drift like a race car. Dozens of Lizardman Warriors were still trailing behind it. Ah Mu and his dozen-plus breaching team members charged without hesitation. Their timing was critical. The Undead were focused on the Lizardman Warriors lagging at the rear and didn’t expect Ah Mu’s sudden attack from the flank.

The dozen-plus breaching team members held their Swords in their teeth as they grabbed onto the fortress’s outer walls and began to climb frantically upward. By the time the Undead reacted, the team members were already prepared. Fighting as they climbed, they forced their way up onto the Bone Plate Platform.
