Global Lords: The Undead's Mobile Fortress
Chapter 81 - 80: I Relayed the Message
The Skeleton Undead cleaned up the battlefield, carrying the corpses of the Headhunter Race back to the Castle Main Tower and piling them up in front of Li Ziyu.
The bodies were stacked layer upon layer, forming a small mountain. Blood flowed down to the bottom, creating small red rivers that spread out in all directions.

...
Li Ziyu had the system decompose the corpses of the Headhunter Race, but the resulting items made his stomach turn.
The resources obtained from decomposing corpses with the system always had special uses. But when decomposing the Headhunter Race’s bodies, they were practically dismantled into individual parts. It wasn’t just skin, but internal organs, too. No wonder the system identified the Headhunter Race as mutated—they were no longer the same as Humans.
He had decomposed many corpses before—Wild Beasts and intelligent life forms like Lizardmen, goblins, and Demonized Minotaurs. He had even decomposed a Human corpse (the Goblin City Lord, Yu Gangbo). But this was the first time a body had been dismantled so completely.
After a single glance, Li Ziyu decided not to examine them further. He had the system throw everything into the Warehouse, buried at the very bottom.
A rough count showed that between 600 and 700 Headhunter Clan People had attacked the fortress. Since they had charged into the fortress, they were basically all wiped out.
He had lost nearly 500 Skeleton Undead in the battle. Using the Skeletons obtained from decomposing the Headhunter Race corpses, he could replenish his losses and even gain just under 200 extra Skeleton Undead. It was a net gain, but not a huge one.
The Soul Energy harvest, however, was quite substantial. He had gained over 50,000, almost 60,000, units of Soul Energy, significantly replenishing his reserves. This also meant the Tombs of the Dead could continue producing Skeleton Undead.
Ten Tombs of the Dead consumed 1,000 units of Soul Energy per day to produce 100 Skeleton Undead.
’Hmm, calculating it this way, the gains aren’t too bad. I should thank my old buddies from the Headhunter Race for delivering these resources.’
’The Lizardmen, the goblins, the Headhunter Race... they aren’t some cancerous scourge of the Wasteland. They’re clearly my beloved brothers!’
’Without them, developing would be so much harder.’
As he was musing to himself, a dozen or so High Level Skeleton Warriors walked in from outside, escorting a group of Headhunters with missing arms and legs. These were the survivors Li Ziyu had ordered to be kept alive. His Undead had specifically pulled them from the piles of corpses, refraining from delivering a finishing blow. As for the ones who were disemboweled or already mortally wounded, they were simply treated as dead.
The Headhunter Clan People looked utterly miserable. Blood was still streaming from their wounds, their faces were pale, and they no longer showed any of the madness and bravery from before.
As for bandaging wounds, what did that have to do with the Undead? They didn’t know how. The Undead didn’t even have flesh and blood; in their minds, the very concept of bandaging a wound didn’t exist. If a bone was completely shattered, they would just go pick out a new one to replace it.
Looking at the group of Headhunter Clan People who were bleeding out and could die at any moment, Li Ziyu facepalmed. ’This won’t do. They have to at least wait until I’m done interrogating them before they can die.’
"Go inform the Minotaurs. Have them send over two people who know how to bandage wounds to take care of these guys," Li Ziyu said to a Skeleton Undead beside him.
The Undead received its orders and left. Li Ziyu sat on his White Bone Throne, waiting and waiting. After a long while, the Undead still hadn’t returned, and he started to feel puzzled.
Just then, the Undead finally returned. Following behind it were Mumu and Tas Tuling.
"Why did you two come? Didn’t I ask you to send two people who know how to bandage wounds?" Li Ziyu asked, surprised to see them.
"Oh, so that’s what it was," Mumu said, first stunned and then with a look of sudden realization.
"What do you mean? Didn’t the Undead explain it to you clearly?" Li Ziyu looked at the Skeleton Undead that had brought them back. ’They might be a bit dim-witted, but they should be able to repeat a message, right? Could it have really messed up the delivery?’
"No, Lord City Lord. It’s not that it didn’t explain clearly. It’s that it didn’t say anything at all," Tas Tuling explained helplessly.
"You didn’t say anything? Why not?" Li Ziyu asked the Undead, confused.
I did say it! They ignored me! They insisted on following me back!
The Skeleton Undead sent a message to Li Ziyu, its tone indignant.
"It says it did tell you, but you ignored it... uh..." Li Ziyu stopped mid-sentence, suddenly understanding what had happened.
It was a Skeleton Undead. It had no flesh, much less vocal cords. When it communicated with him, it was always through an exchange of soul information, with no need to make a sound.
That method of communication worked with him because he was the Undead City Lord. But for an Undead to communicate with Minotaurs that way was completely unreliable. The Minotaurs were completely unable to receive the messages sent by the Skeleton Undead and had no idea what it was doing.
Rewinding to the moment the message was to be delivered: the Skeleton Undead received Li Ziyu’s order and went to the Minotaur Tribe. Seeing an Undead arrive, the Minotaurs immediately understood that the City Lord must have a task for them and quickly gathered around. And then... the Undead just stood there. It didn’t move, just stood there stock-still.
’What... does this mean?’
The Minotaurs looked at each other in utter confusion. The Undead stood like that for nearly three minutes, then suddenly became agitated, flailing its arms and legs, which startled the surrounding Minotaurs. Only Tas Tuling could tell that the Undead seemed to be trying to express something, but was unable to do so clearly. He guessed for a long time but couldn’t figure out what the Undead meant.
Finally, Tas Tuling went to find Mumu. After a brief discussion, the two Minotaurs decided to follow the Undead back to the main tower and meet with Li Ziyu face-to-face to ask what the City Lord needed.
And that’s what led to the scene of the two of them following the Skeleton Undead to see Li Ziyu.
"Forget it. This isn’t your fault, it’s mine. I forgot how difficult it is for the Undead to communicate with you," Li Ziyu sighed, waving his hand dismissively. He repeated his request, asking Mumu to arrange for Minotaurs who knew how to bandage wounds to come and treat the Headhunter Race, at least to keep them alive for now.
"I know how to bandage wounds. I’ll start with them. Clan Leader, you go back and get two more people," Tas Tuling said immediately after hearing the request. He stepped forward, looked at a Headhunter Clan Person with a severed arm, and took out rope, medicinal herbs, and other items from a small satchel before beginning to dress the wound.
Most Tribes that survive in the Wasteland have some knowledge of emergency first aid. After all, the dangers and troubles of the Wasteland were too numerous; without some knowledge in this area, you’d be dead long before any rescue could arrive.
Tas Tuling was very skilled at bandaging. He first tied a thin cord around the wound, then deftly applied a poultice of herbs. The bleeding stopped quickly.
With Li Ziyu’s order, Mumu didn’t dare to delay. He ran back to the Tribe and brought back two burly Minotaur women to help bandage the Headhunter Clan People’s wounds.
The four of them worked for a long time, but they finally managed to save the lives of the Headhunter Race prisoners, ensuring they wouldn’t die from blood loss.
