Global Survival: I Got the D-Rank Personnel Simulator
Chapter 525: Dilemmas and Sudden Changes
The armory contained a large amount of weapons and equipment left behind.
Standard-issue pistols, submachine guns, a large quantity of ammunition, riot shields, stab-proof vests, cut-resistant gloves, expandable batons, handcuffs, pepper spray canisters, high-power flashlights...
There were also some communication devices, but the fog seemed to affect the communication signals. Once you moved a certain distance away, you could only hear static.
The three of them put on various pieces of equipment, then found a handcart and loaded all the weapons and ammunition into the trunk of the police car.
The police station had no information left about this disaster. Perhaps they never received any, or perhaps someone took it away.
The possibility of never receiving it was higher, as when the disaster occurred, communications were quickly severed by the mist.
"This thing doesn't seem very effective anymore."
Xivia used her police baton to prod the Half-body Monster forward. Only a crack was left on a roadside stone.
"Hard to say. That acquaintance earlier could play dead for a while, but probably couldn't keep it up forever. Or maybe they can only play dead after being injured. Otherwise, they could have just played dead the whole time, waiting for us to approach."
Lin Ye poked the Half-body Monster with his baton. Only minor cracks appeared on the baton, and the monster indeed looked like it was almost done for.
"Feels like it's about to die, probably because it's been constantly cutting the ground."
Xivia kicked the Half-body Monster, sending it flying. Its head hit the wall, its neck bending at a strange angle.
"Let's go, we should leave this place."
Mia sat in the co-driver's seat, waving at the two of them.
"What a pity. I originally wanted to strap it to the front of the police car."
Lin Ye lamented with regret.
"Should we find another one then?"
Xivia seemed to really like this convenient tool.
"Forget it. If we run into other monsters, it'll be trouble. I'll just drive a bumper car instead."
Lin Ye sat in the driver's seat and drove the police car towards the highway leading out of the city.
"What if it's like this outside too?"
Mia pressed her face against the car window, asking somewhat anxiously.
"I asked myself that same question before I left home."
Lin Ye said with a calm expression.
"And the result?"
Mia turned her head to look at Lin Ye's profile, half of which showed no discernible joy or anger.
"The result is that the difference isn't big, but I adapted.
So even if it's like this outside, it doesn't matter."
Lin Ye floored the accelerator. The police car began to speed up on the gradually emptying road.
"Wait! There's something wrong ahead!"
Mia suddenly spoke up.
Lin Ye slammed the brakes, drifting to a stop. Only when the police car was sideways in the middle of the road did he clearly see what appeared at the road's end.
"...Am I seeing things?"
Xivia pushed open the car door, wearing an expression of disbelief.
"This isn't your problem; it's that the world has a problem."
Lin Ye looked at the bottomless, seemingly endless chasm at the end of the road. This wasn't something a single disaster could explain.
"...Could it just be an earthquake? Because of the fog, it looks this deep?"
Mia was still trying to explain the scene before them.
"...Whatever the reason, it's probably impossible for us to get through here."
Lin Ye looked to both sides of the chasm, but due to the thick fog, he couldn't see its ends at all.
"Maybe we can drive around the chasm, looking for a road out of this area."
Xivia suggested.
"Places off the main road aren't easy to drive on, and the police car's fuel isn't enough to circle the entire city."
Lin Ye didn't know why this chasm appeared here, but if its appearance wasn't some kind of accident, its function was likely to isolate this city.
If that were truly the case, then searching for a gap would be a waste of time, and it might lead to them dying here.
"Then what should we do? We can't just find a place to hide, right?"
Xivia said somewhat impatiently.
"I know you're anxious, but don't be anxious just yet. Leave the troublesome matters to Lin Ye to handle; he's very reliable."
Mia stuck a lollipop into Xivia's mouth and gave one to Lin Ye as well.
"...I think we can drive around the city, picking up some fuel along the way."
Lin Ye couldn't think of any good solutions for the moment either, so he could only propose a transitional plan to gather information in the city.
"True, that's better than wasting time here."
Xivia was about to get back into the car when she realized the police car behind her was gone.
But she quickly realized the problem wasn't with that police car; the entire surrounding environment had changed.
The road beneath their feet had turned into wasteland. The city behind them had completely vanished. Above was a lead-gray sky. Only the gray-white fog around them remained unchanged.
"What's going on? Officer Xivia, when did you change clothes? That outfit is so pretty."
Mia's voice came from behind, but her voice seemed to have changed somewhat.
When Xivia turned around, a very large dinosaur head appeared in her field of vision.
"Mia? Why are you speaking from inside my body? My vision is a bit strange. Wait, my body!"
If she hadn't heard Lin Ye's voice and noticed the firearm in her hand was gone, Xivia would have almost opened fire on the monster before her.
"...How did you two get inside this monster's body? Is this some kind of attack?"
Xivia warily scanned her surroundings. She was somewhat confused about the current situation.
"This seems to be the body of a small Tyrannosaurus rex. Mia! Don't fight me for control of the body!"
Because Mia was causing trouble, Lin Ye almost tripped himself.
"I want to play with this body too. I only have a Tyrannosaurus rex plushie at home."
Mia wanted to grab her own tail.
"Forget it, you can play for a while first, but you have to hand control back to me later."
Lin Ye suddenly discovered he could control a special sense of this body, so he relinquished control of the body.
"Roger that!"
Mia began controlling the body to perform all sorts of strange movements.
"Do you know what's going on?"
Xivia was also checking her body. This body gave her a strangely familiar feeling. She could even use this body to perform actions that defied common sense.
"I have a hypothesis. This area might be the cause that triggered this disaster. Due to some unknown factor, we were teleported here, and our bodies transformed into their current state.
Of course, there's another possibility: this *is* our world, but the entire world underwent some change in a state we couldn't perceive, transforming into what it is now.
But there's one difficult-to-explain problem here: why does your appearance not have significant changes, while Mia and I not only turned into dinosaurs but also entered the same body?
Mia, do you like dinosaurs?"
Lin Ye had no particular fondness for dinosaurs at all.
"I like them moderately. Comparatively, I'd rather turn into something cute like a cat or similar."
Even though she said that, Mia had already started dancing with the dinosaur body.
