"Damn it!"

Seeing the exit sealed shut, Lin Ye took the pistol and fired a shot at the monster that had burst out from the room.

Bang!

It was a humanoid figure with long, slender limbs. Its pale body was covered in bloodstains, and where its head should have been grew a mass of writhing, fleshy sac structures.

The bullet accurately hit the monster's flesh sac, but that didn't seem to be its vital spot.

Bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang...

Landy opened fire on the monster, quickly emptying the rifle magazine.

The monster was shredded into a pile of minced meat by Landy's barrage, but that minced meat didn't die. Instead, it continuously wriggled on the ground like it was breathing.

Lin Ye didn't go near the monster. Instead, he grabbed Landy and sprinted down the corridor, quickly putting distance between themselves and the wriggling pile of minced meat.

That was a monster that couldn't even be killed by rifle fire. They currently had no ability to finish it off.

While escaping, Lin Ye kept running his fingers along the corridor walls. Only by finding that cardboard could they leave this area.

Not long after, hurried footsteps sounded behind them. The monster had already recovered to its previous state. It constantly swung its two long, slender legs, closing in on them at a speed close to that of a motorcycle.

Bang!

Lin Ye turned and fired a shot at the monster's knee. The bullet accurately hit the monster's knee. Having its knee hit while moving at high speed, the monster tumbled and crashed into the corridor wall.

"There's an emergency stairwell ahead! Which way should we go?!"

Landy, running in front, shouted the question.

"Go up first."

Lin Ye also didn't know which direction could lead them out of here. Their stamina and ammunition were limited; they couldn't keep racing the monster forever.

The two went upstairs along the stairs. The monster soon entered the emergency stairwell, chasing relentlessly behind them.

The monster was much faster than them. Lin Ye could only fire at the monster's lower body when it got close to delay it catching up.

Through the gap between the emergency stairwell railings, Lin Ye tried to check the number of floors in this building, but at a glance, he could only see rows of railings. He couldn't see the building's bottom or top floors at all.

Furthermore, there were no windows in the hotel corridors or rooms. Lin Ye simply couldn't determine the situation of this hotel.

They soon reached a higher floor. Lin Ye didn't choose to continue going up. Instead, he turned into the corridor.

This floor was structurally identical to the previous one, except there were no dragging marks in the corridor.

Lin Ye continued running while touching the walls with his fingers, but that cardboard seemed to have vanished. The corridor walls were all normal.

"If this goes on, we're dead for sure!"

Landy breathed heavily, already at a loss for what to do.

"You're right. So we can only split up. I'll lure the monster away. You go to the floor above and wait for me. If you encounter cardboard after splitting up, break it and escape to the other side through the gap."

Hearing the hurried footsteps approaching, Lin Ye didn't say more and charged straight at the monster.

"Wait! Take the magazines!"

Landy threw his remaining pistol magazines to Lin Ye.

Lin Ye didn't look back. He caught the magazines with a backhanded grab and fired a shot, hitting the knee of the monster charging at full speed.

The monster fell and crashed into the wall, but it didn't stop. Instead, it rolled its body to crash into Lin Ye, one long, slender arm stabbing towards Lin Ye's chest.

Lin Ye dodged the arm by turning sideways, then passed by the monster.

After getting up, the monster charged at Lin Ye like it was insane, completely ignoring the overseer with the rifle behind it.

Lin Ye led the monster downstairs. He fired shots from time to time to hinder the monster's approach, but his stamina and bullets were almost depleted.

After separating from Landy, Lin Ye had been searching for that cardboard, but for some reason, he hadn't felt that material. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

Since there was only one emergency stairwell in the corridor, to avoid being cornered by the monster, Lin Ye had to pass by the monster again.

This pass used up the bullets in his pistol, and Lin Ye's stamina was also nearly gone.

The monster's hurried footsteps sounded from behind again. Just as Lin Ye prepared to turn and fight the monster desperately, the sound of rifle fire rang out from above in the emergency stairwell.

Bang bang bang bang bang bang!

"Hurry up! I found that cardboard wall!"

Landy roared from above.

Lin Ye urgently mustered his last bit of stamina to sprint upwards. Whether the Landy above was real or not, he could find a gap to leave this place there.

Landy kept firing from above, preventing the monster from getting close to Lin Ye. Breathing heavily, Lin Ye ran to Landy's side, and together they entered the corridor.

There was a gap in the corridor wall. On the other side of the gap was a dim space.

The two rushed into the gap. As they crossed it, the hurried footsteps behind them suddenly stopped. That monster stood near the gap but didn't cross it to continue attacking them.

Lin Ye pulled back Landy, who wanted to run further. They were inside a dim tunnel. In front of Landy were two rows of railway tracks. There was about a one-meter height difference between the tracks and the platform they stood on.

He had almost stepped into empty air and fallen onto the tracks.

"...Thanks."

Landy took a few steps back along the platform, moving away from the gap.

By now, that monster had disappeared.

"Don't mention it... Weren't you afraid the me down there just now was a cardboard person?"

Lin Ye didn't expect others to save him, so if someone could lend a hand in such a situation, he felt somewhat surprised.

"Ahem, while moving earlier, I tried my best to stay on the same plane as you. If even that doesn't work, then I can only accept it."

Landy sat on the platform, pulling open his collar. After the previous frantic running, he was somewhat exhausted.

"Don't sit on the ground. This place might not be safer than over there. We need to find a relatively safe place to rest."

Lin Ye pulled Landy up. The reason that monster didn't run over here might be because it couldn't move here, or perhaps because there was something more dangerous here.

"Here, eat this to replenish energy."

Landy took out an energy bar and an energy drink from his close-fitting backpack and gave a portion to Lin Ye.

Looking at the familiar organization set, Lin Ye somewhat nostalgically opened the energy drink and downed the liquid inside in one gulp.

The taste of the energy drink was the same as before, sweet and sour, with a cool, refreshing sensation.

Lin Ye stuffed the energy bar into his pocket. He liked saving good things to enjoy last.

"You've eaten this stuff before?"

Landy looked at Lin Ye curiously. He thought Lin Ye would eat the energy bar first, but Lin Ye's behavior was very similar to those experienced overseers.

"I just feel I don't need to replenish too much energy right now, but I do need to replenish some fluids."

Lin Ye casually made up a reason that sounded plausible.
