God of Pets
Chapter 837: Odd Cloud
"Why is it following us?" Chen Guan was somewhat surprised.
He watched for a while and didn’t notice anything unusual about the little gray celestial cloud, which was just following them along the way.
The little gray celestial cloud being able to keep up with the Ghost Eye wasn’t surprising, as the speed of the celestial cloud is exceptionally fast among similar levels.
Even though the Ghost Eye can ride clouds and fog, its speed isn’t comparable to the celestial cloud of the same level, even if the celestial cloud is of lower quality, it would still be faster than the Ghost Eye at the same level.
"Generally, celestial clouds don’t have much offensive capability; if it wants to follow, let it follow." Chen Guan instructed the Ghost Eye to continue flying, ignoring the little gray celestial cloud.
The Ghost Eye continued to fly, searching for various top-tier celestial clouds.
It found quite a few celestial clouds of biological form, but most were unsatisfactory.
There was a golden celestial cloud resembling a divine dragon that made Chen Guan very covetous.
However, that celestial cloud stretched several kilometers, and its flight speed was noticeably slower than celestial clouds of the same level, so Chen Guan had to reluctantly give it up.
Although Chen Guan cared about appearance, as a pet used for survival, celestial clouds needed to be fast.
After searching for nearly ten hours, he still hadn’t encountered a particularly suitable celestial cloud.
If not for Warring States comforting him, even the Killing God White Tiger was starting to get a bit impatient.
Chen Guan had no choice but to let the Ghost Eye continue flying to search, while that little gray cloud persistently followed behind.
As he was searching, suddenly he saw a figure flying from afar; it turned out to be the Celestial Injury Star.
"Why are you here?" Chen Guan asked in surprise.
"Didn’t I tell you? I’m the guardian of the Gate of Heaven." Celestial Injury Star laughed.
"Ordinary guards shouldn’t be able to freely enter and exit the Gate of Heaven, right?" Chen Guan said.
He finally understood why Celestial Injury Star was so knowledgeable about celestial clouds; this was his domain.
"Consider me a head gatekeeper," Celestial Injury Star continued, "I was at the Gate of Heaven waiting for you, but something came up suddenly from above, and I missed you in just a short while."
"Time is limited, so I won’t say much more. Follow me, and I’ll take you to find celestial clouds." Saying this, Celestial Injury Star began leading the way.
Very soon, Celestial Injury Star realized that the Ghost Eye couldn’t keep up with his speed.
Celestial Injury Star stopped and summoned a red celestial cloud resembling a fiery lotus from his armor, saying to Chen Guan: "Come on up. This Red Lotus Celestial Cloud is quite fast; it will save some time."
Now was not the time for courtesy; Chen Guan, Warring States, and the Killing God White Tiger all boarded the Red Lotus Celestial Cloud.
This Red Lotus Celestial Cloud had a diameter of over ten meters, flying quickly and steadily, producing only a slight whooshing sound that was almost negligible.
"It’s truly a fantastic celestial cloud!" Seeing the Red Lotus Cloud’s speed, Chen Guan felt grateful; having a Red Lotus Cloud was enough for a swift escape.
Even the Ninth Awakening Spirit or ordinary cultivators couldn’t catch up with the Red Lotus Cloud.
"The Red Lotus Cloud is considered one of the odd clouds of the Nine Heavens, quite exquisite indeed," Celestial Injury Star said with a smile.
With the speed of the Red Lotus Cloud, combined with Celestial Injury Star’s knowledge of the area, soon Chen Guan saw ahead a celestial cloud over thirty meters long, shining brightly like gold, resembling a phoenix.
"That’s the Phoenix Sun-Rising Cloud, another odd cloud, matching the speed of the Red Lotus Cloud. You’re quite lucky; it’s rare to encounter a Phoenix Sun-Rising Cloud, even for someone who patrols the Nine Heavens for many years like me," Celestial Injury Star said.
"Let’s go with that one," Chen Guan said with great joy, looking at the Killing God White Tiger.
The Killing God White Tiger didn’t need prompting from Chen Guan; Warring States extended a paw, tapping the Killing God White Tiger to stand up and fix its gaze on the Phoenix Sun-Rising Cloud.
In the next instant, Chen Guan felt a flash of white light before him as the Killing God White Tiger vanished, its speed incredibly fast.
If Chen Guan wasn’t prepared, he might not even see it before falling victim to the Killing God White Tiger’s attack.
Even with preparation, he’d have to maintain his Body Protection Divine Skill constantly, unable to counter its moves; it’s nearly impossible to attack the Killing God White Tiger.
Chen Guan looked up but couldn’t see the Phoenix Sun-Rising Cloud’s figure anymore.
His gaze shifted slightly, then he saw, far in the sky, a golden and white stream of light chasing each other within the grayish Nine Heavens.
The speed was so fast that their afterimages resembled comet tails.
At such speed, if Chen Guan fought them closely, he might not be able to react.
Watching the two comet-like streams of light move in the sky, Chen Guan was immensely pleased, thinking Warring States’ beauty trap wasn’t wasted.
The Killing God White Tiger was indeed fast, and the Phoenix Sun-Rising Cloud didn’t escape in a straight line because its speed couldn’t match the Killing God White Tiger’s.
It could only change direction to avoid being caught by the Killing God White Tiger.
However, not being caught directly showed its speed was indeed top-notch.
Chen Guan was ready to take advantage once the Killing God White Tiger dispersed the Phoenix Sun-Rising Cloud.
His plan seemed perfect, but unexpectedly, the Phoenix Sun-Rising Cloud unleashed its hidden power, flying swiftly towards one spot.
The Killing God White Tiger simultaneously unleashed its hidden power, chasing after in golden and white streamers, surrounded by halos, flying faster and faster; the Phoenix Sun-Rising Cloud couldn’t shake off the Killing God White Tiger.
As the hidden power waned, the Phoenix Sun-Rising Cloud was about to get caught by the Killing God White Tiger when suddenly its speed surged, diving into the black cloud overhead.
The Killing God White Tiger lost sight of it, couldn’t lock onto it, and lost the target.
"What’s happening? How is there a black cloud here?" Chen Guan examined closely, seeing the black cloud was ink-like.
It stretched beyond sight, even with Chen Guan’s farsighted vision; he couldn’t see its edge, hard to imagine how vast it really was.
"This black cloud must be tens of thousands of miles wide?" Chen Guan speculated, knowing it was a form of celestial cloud, but its size was astonishing and its movement would certainly not be so fast.
In the Nine Heavens, there were no ordinary clouds; after observing for a while, Chen Guan could only tell it was of high level, but couldn’t gauge its quality.
Unable to perceive its contours fully, like a blind man feeling an elephant or a leopard through a tube, hard to discern the full picture and thus impossible to judge.
"Why did the Phoenix Sun-Rising Cloud hide inside the black cloud?" Chen Guan questioned, looking at Celestial Injury Star.
But seeing Celestial Injury Star’s expression, Chen Guan paused; Celestial Injury Star appeared solemn, his eyes fixed on the black cloud.
"The Phoenix Sun-Rising Cloud wasn’t hiding inside; it was absorbed by the black cloud." Celestial Injury Star said gravely, "That’s the Returning Soul Cloud, one of the odd clouds that feeds on celestial clouds, the final resting place for most celestial clouds in the Nine Heavens."
