God Tier System: I Create My Own Talents
Chapter 39: The loss and losses
As Roe got teleported, he looked out the windows. He quickly realized he had been teleported to a distant tower.
They weren’t informed of the aftermath of this whole evaluation. Despite being the proctor for the final match, even he didn’t know this would happen.
Seconds later, someone else appeared, walking through the door. The very same door that brought him here.
It was Verdona. She was the first to make it to this other tower after Roe.
Roe immediately realized that those who passed were being sent here.
’Just to confirm...’ he thought.
"Hey, Verdona. What happened out there? You passed, right?" Roe asked.
"Yeah, I did. Surprisingly."
"Is there anything to drink here? I can’t take it no more. My body wasn’t built for this kind of pressure," she said as she went looking for a drink.
Not long after, the door opened again. This time, it was Randolph. He entered loudly, shouting at the top of his voice.
"I made it!" he shouted.
A punch was immediately sent his way.
"Yeah, you made it all right. But you’re going to have to answer to me!" Roe shouted.
"You know I almost didn’t make it back there because of your tricky talent."
Roe looked intensely as he said it. Randolph looked right back with an intensity matching Roe’s.
"Haha. Ahaha."
They both began to laugh.
"Yeah, well next time, I’ll play better tricks," Randolph said.
"Yeah, dream on. You wish," Roe responded.
There were now three people present in the tower.
Randolph went on in. He was looking for something to eat.
Roe waited patiently for the next person to walk through the door. The wait was longer this time. Roe knew exactly what this meant. He accepted it as an inevitability. There was obviously no way all the students were going to pass.
After a while, the door finally opened. It was Gwen, and she was in tears.
Roe tried to comfort her. She was sad because Beatrix didn’t make it.
"You’re not responsible for her," Roe said.
"Cheer up. Verdona made it. There’s a couple of our guys still out there. Let’s be hopeful for them at the very least."
She walked in.
The door opened again. This time, it was Edward. He was the first of his set to make it.
Roe extended his hand.
Edward disregarded him but told him thanks.
’What was that all about?’ Roe thought.
He didn’t bother trying to crack Edward. He had realized that’s just the kind of person he was.
Edward was the one who decided to turn the drinking and dining into a full-blown party.
Roe waited awhile. It was similar to what happened earlier. The door opened again; it just took some time. This time, it was John.
He and Roe shook hands, exchanging respects.
The next person came in. It was Sigman. He ran in.
"Why do you always have to be extra?" Roe asked.
He extended his hand to shake Sigman’s. He’d shaken hands twice in a row now. It just felt like the right way to welcome them at this point.
Sigman looked at his hand with disgust.
"I’m not shaking those."
"Why—"
"Come here, you. I’m a hugger, that’s why."
Sigman pulled him into a tight hug.
He decided to wait with Roe.
"I’ll stay and help you welcome the others and stuff," he said.
"Sure."
Zach walked in.
Roe averted his eyes. He wanted to talk to Zach, just not right now.
Zach walked in. Sigman welcomed him.
"So there’s that," Sigman said.
"I don’t want to talk about it."
Ursula came in.
Roe didn’t even bother extending his hand. They both just stared.
She walked in. No words were exchanged.
The door opened one final time. Both Roe and Sigman’s expectations were completely shattered.
It was an unexpected figure.
Solomon walked in.
"I’m sorry, Roe," he said thereafter.
Roe and Sigman already knew.
This meant that Modred somehow didn’t make it.
The damn system guy made it. How come he didn’t? How come Modred couldn’t?
"I don’t understand, Solomon. Master, I don’t understand."
This was the second time he was getting hopelessly emotional.
"Calm down," Sigman said.
There was a tear in his eye. He just didn’t let it flow.
"You’re a man, right?" Sigman said.
He wiped away his tear.
Roe immediately understood the statement. He was calling back to what Modred had said to him.
’If he knows about that phrase, I wonder if he and Modred ever got a full-on heart-to-heart. Bro to bro,’ Roe thought.
"Go. You two. Go join the party," Solomon said.
"I’ll address you all later."
He didn’t leave. He just wanted them to have some fun before he discussed business properly.
Roe and Sigman weren’t the only ones feeling the loss.
Edward was as well.
He heard Solomon break the news. He just didn’t know how to react.
"Another!" he shouted, asking Verdona for a refill.
"I can’t take this right now."
He smacked his cup down.
"Another!" he shouted.
Modred’s loss wasn’t the only one being felt.
Their peers weren’t dead. It was just painful parting ways with those you’d labored so hard with.
Though now partying with the others, Gwen still couldn’t shake off the fact that she had failed Beatrix somehow. Ursula didn’t seem to care, despite being teamed up earlier. She seemed stone-cold.
John also wasn’t pleased with the fact that Gandy wasn’t present.
They had all been impacted in one way or another by those who pushed them to keep on the path.
Minutes passed.
John and Gwen danced.
Sigman approached Ursula to talk.
"Modred didn’t tell me everything, but I think we should talk."
Roe approached Zach to do the same.
Zach wasn’t partying. He was also feeling the loss of Modred. For him, Modred wasn’t the only one he lost today. There was Max as well.
"Hey, Zach. Mind if we talk?" Roe asked.
Solomon noticed Roe was finally addressing Zach.
"Their interactions will be pivotal for....."
