Grand Voyage : Surviving on a Ghost Ship
Chapter 287 - The limits of an ordinary being
Yang Yi did not linger by the Vitality Sardine Tree. He walked straight over to Suna.
“Is the rat poison finished?” he asked.
Suna nodded, rare fatigue showing on her face.
“The Sea-Brewed Rum was limited. I could only make ten bottles.”
She handed him a rack of test tubes. Ten glass tubes were neatly arranged inside, each filled with a dark brown liquid.
Yang Yi picked one up to examine it.
【Name: Unknown Potion】
【Type: Consumable / Potion / Unique】
【Quality: ??】
【Description: Designed specifically for rats. The effect will only be known after use.】
“How do I use it?” he asked, looking at Suna.
“It’s a pheromone. Just smash it in a place where there are a lot of rats.”
Her explanation made it sound similar to Rat Killer.
But in his earlier dream, Yang Yi had needed dozens of bottles of Rat Killer just to suppress the rat thralls.
Later, after restoring power, he had poured a large amount of rat poison into the ventilation ducts, effectively cleansing the entire ship before finally ending the infestation.
Now, however, Suna had only given him ten bottles.
“Will that be enough?”
He wasn’t worried about the potion’s potency. His concern was dosage. There were simply too many Settler Rats.
“It’s enough. Just make sure you use it where the rats gather. If you use it properly, even one bottle might be sufficient.”
Suna took out a silver beaked mask and handed it to him.
“When you use it, don’t inhale it. It has some effect on humans as well,” she warned.
Yang Yi nodded and stored the ten bottles away.
Then he took out the Holy Water he had purchased earlier. He kept twenty bottles for himself and handed the rest to Suna.
“You take some too. It might come in handy. And get some rest. I’ll handle the rest.”
He had no intention of bringing her along. There was only one Mouse Knight Cape, and having another person would make movement more difficult.
Suna understood and did not insist on going. Instead, she brought up another matter.
“My base Perception is maxed out, but I can’t increase it any further. Training through experience alone won’t break the limits of an ordinary being.”
She sent her status panel to Yang Yi:
Suna (Ordinary Being)
Extraordinary Path: Truth
Status: Healthy (green human silhouette), Height 165 cm, Weight 59 kg
Strength: 6 (3172/4000)

Agility: 7 (2197/8000)
Constitution: 7 (14/8000)
Perception: 10 (-/-)

HP: 100/100
Mana: 10/10
Talents: Witch’s Blood, Forbidden Scholar

Abilities: None
…
After reading through it, Yang Yi noticed that all of Suna’s attributes had improved considerably, especially her base Perception, which had reached 10.
That was no small feat.
His own base Spirit was still more than a thousand experience points away from levelling up.
So why was Suna bringing up attributes now?
Yang Yi looked at her, puzzled.
She continued.
“I’ve read through the research materials Wei Qian left behind. I can now confirm that no matter how much humans train, their base attributes cannot exceed 10. To go beyond that, you have to rely on external forces.”
“The simplest and most efficient method is to abandon the human identity and transform into another species with a higher upper limit. For example, a werewolf, a vampire, a deep diver, a ghoul, a Gluttonous Guest, a Spider…”
“No. Don’t even think about it!” Yang Yi cut her off sharply.
“Let me finish!”
Suna frowned.
“Another option is magic or other extraordinary paths. Most of them fall within the framework of an Extraordinary Path and can push attributes beyond 10.”
“This includes potions, books, delicacies, oath rituals, divine blessings, and even high-quality equipment.”
She listed nearly every extraordinary method. Yang Yi possessed many of them himself, including equipment-based transcendence, such as the Penitent Armour.
But in reality, this kind of transcendence had serious limitations.
Once the equipment was gone, you were no different from an ordinary person.
Yang Yi fell silent for a moment.
He understood what she was trying to say. She wanted to find a way to advance into the extraordinary.
But he did not want Suna to become some kind of monster. Even if she cursed him for it, he could accept that.
“I’ll think of something. Equipment-based transcendence or potions are more reliable. There’s no need to rush.”
He kept the discussion brief, unwilling to dig deeper.
“That’s not what I meant. I just wanted to ask, have you ever heard of something called the Stone of Truth? It’s a red stone, about the size of an egg.”
She tapped on her tablet and opened a file.
Wei Qian had also been searching for this item. Supposedly, consuming it granted vast knowledge and allowed one to advance into the extraordinary.
“Never heard of it. It’s late. Go get some sleep. I’ll head to the shelter after you wake up.”
Yang Yi lied without the slightest change in expression.
But Suna knew his microexpressions too well. She could tell he was lying.
The Stone of Truth was most likely already in his possession. Probably that red gem she had seen him holding before, the one he had hurriedly hidden away.
Since he refused to admit it, she did not press further. Instead, she began making plans of her own, intending to find an opportunity to steal it.
Each harbouring their own thoughts, the two returned to the deck. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
Yang Yi watched as Suna went back to her room to sleep. He instructed Xiao Ji and Xiao Er to stay alert.
Then he climbed the watchtower alone. After confirming no one was around, he took out the Stone of Truth.
He had kept it on him for a long time. At first, he withheld it out of concern that Suna might lose control.
Now… he was even more unwilling to give it to her.
The item was extremely dangerous and incredibly valuable. Even a Collector could not afford it.
And ever since the player island teleportation accident labeled No. 0000000000…, Yang Yi had realised he seemed to possess a faint ability to foresee certain dangers.
Perhaps it was a remnant of his nightmares.
In any case, he had a strong feeling that if he gave the Stone of Truth to Suna, something terrible would happen.
“What if I try it myself?”
An absurd idea suddenly surfaced.
The item was recommended for witches or warlocks, but it never explicitly said others couldn’t consume it.
If he ate it, confirmed the effects, then vomited it back up and handed it to Suna, wouldn’t that solve the problem?
He stared at the clear red gem for a long moment.
In the end, he did not eat it. He put the stone back into his ring.
For now, dealing with the rats was the priority. He should not disrupt the original plan.
