Chapter 258: Storm City
Li Wei and Diana stepped onto the Teleportation Array.
In the blink of an eye, the surrounding scenery was completely different.
They had arrived in Storm City.
CLOMP CLOMP CLOMP! CLANG CLANG CLANG!
The sounds of marching footsteps and clanging metal reached Li Wei’s ears.
He opened his eyes to see patrolling soldiers everywhere.
In the distance stood a towering city wall.
The Teleportation Array was located within a separate fortress.
This was to prevent enemies from using the Teleportation Array to attack Storm City directly.
It might sound incredible, but it had happened before.
Everyone emerging from the Teleportation Array had their identity thoroughly checked. Only after verification were they permitted to enter Storm City.
Li Wei wore a Mage Robe, and the inspector’s attitude was very friendly.
After a quick inspection of the Magic Badge, he greeted them with a smile and said, "Esteemed Mage, welcome to Storm City. I wish you a pleasant stay."
Li Wei put away his Magic Badge and replied with a smile, "Thank you."
Li Wei was a Mage certified by the Elemental Tower.
Naturally, he was able to enter Storm City with ease.
He led Diana into the bustling streets of Storm City.
As they walked out of the Teleport Fortress, the noisy cries of street vendors filled the air.
Although Storm City was a military fortress, its location in Central Earth still made it incredibly bustling.
Far from being deserted due to its special function, it was actually exceptionally popular among Professionals.
Here, on the front lines of the war against the Undead, lay the Ancient Battlefield Ruins, a place thousands of years old filled with countless opportunities.
Every Professional who came to Storm City wanted to make a name for themselves and return in glory.
Walking along the crowded street, Li Wei asked, "Diana, do you know where the Divine Hall of Light is?"
Diana pointed to a distant spire. "That largest cathedral over there is the Divine Hall of Light."
Li Wei looked up and could only see the spire of the Divine Hall of Light.
Atop the spire stood a sculpture of a Holy Daughter of Light.
The sculpture’s arms were outstretched, as if to embrace the world and all its people.
A symbol of God’s love for all.
Li Wei headed toward the Divine Hall of Light.
CLIP CLOP CLIP CLOP! RUMBLE RUMBLE!
The sound of horse hooves and rolling wheels made Li Wei stop in his tracks.
He turned to see several carriages, emblazoned with noble crests, speeding past.
That particular street was wide and empty.
That was because it was Storm City’s main thoroughfare.
It led directly to the city gate and the City Lord’s Mansion.
The Divine Hall of Light was in the central district of Storm City, situated directly opposite the City Lord’s Mansion.
It effectively divided the entire city of Storm City in two.
This was a clear testament to the power and influence of the Divine Hall of Light.
As Li Wei entered the district under the Divine Hall of Light’s influence, he often saw people on the streets, chanting hymns.
Often, zealots would pull passersby aside to preach their doctrines.
Wearing his Mage Robe, Li Wei was spared such annoyances.
Even in Central Earth, Mages were still a symbol of high status.
Ordinary people wouldn’t dare to offend one lightly.
Before he even reached the Divine Hall of Light, Li Wei was stopped by a squad of Bright Knights.
"Esteemed Mage, may I ask your business at the Divine Hall of Light?" the Knight Captain asked.
Ever since Li Wei entered this area, he had been watched.
A Mage accompanied by a handmaiden was a conspicuous sight.
Handmaidens weren’t uncommon.
But a Mage traveling with one was.
Moreover, Li Wei was heading directly for the Divine Hall of Light. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
He quickly attracted the attention of the nearby Bright Knights.
Thus, the current scene unfolded.
Li Wei said, "I wish to see the Grand Archbishop."
The Knight Captain looked at Li Wei. A Knight’s virtue prevented him from scoffing at Li Wei’s audacity.
He simply said, "The Grand Archbishop is very busy. Please come back another day."
Not telling Li Wei to get lost was, in itself, a sign of his respect for Mages and his adherence to the virtues of a Knight.
’The Grand Archbishop isn’t someone just anyone can meet.’
’Even he might not get to see the Grand Archbishop once in an entire year.’
Li Wei had anticipated the Knight Captain’s reaction.
He took out the Holy Emblem of Light. "I have this. With this, can I see the Grand Archbishop?"
Upon seeing the Holy Emblem of Light, the Knight Captain stiffened and hurriedly dismounted.
The Bright Knights behind him saw this and quickly dismounted as well.
Once they got a clear look at the Holy Emblem of Light in Li Wei’s hand, they all performed a Knight’s salute.
"I apologize for my earlier discourtesy," the Knight Captain said, bowing his head.
Li Wei was a little surprised. ’What in the world is this Holy Emblem of Light?’
He kept his confusion to himself.
"It’s nothing," Li Wei said.
The Knight Captain said, "If Your Excellency would please come to the Divine Hall of Light and wait, I will inform the Grand Archbishop and seek his counsel."
"Alright."
The Bright Knights personally escorted Li Wei and Diana to the Divine Hall of Light.
When the Priests of the Divine Hall of Light learned that Li Wei held the Holy Emblem of Light, they received him with the highest honors, second only to those reserved for the Pope.
This scene made Li Wei even more curious about the significance of the Holy Emblem of Light.
When Torresta had given him the Holy Emblem of Light, he had done so with such a casual, nonchalant air.
It had led Li Wei to believe the Holy Emblem of Light was merely a way to get his foot in the door, nothing more than an admission ticket.
He never imagined the Holy Emblem of Light held such great significance for the Divine Hall of Light.
It made him somewhat nervous, and he worried he might make a misstep.
’What exactly did my teacher do in the past?’
Li Wei was incredibly curious.
’How on earth did Torresta get the Holy Emblem of Light?’
’And what did it truly signify?’
"Grand Archbishop, there is a young Mage here who holds a Holy Emblem of Light. He says he wishes to see you."
The Priest attending to Li Wei went to find the Grand Archbishop.
"Oh?"
The Grand Archbishop was rather surprised.
’There are no young people among the bearers of the Holy Emblem of Light.’
’Only those who have made significant Contributions to the Divine Hall of Light and earned the recognition of the Pope or the Saintess are given the opportunity to receive one.’
’Such individuals are typically experts of great power.’
’The most recent Holy Emblem of Light was awarded fifty years ago.’
’The Legendary Warrior who received it is now a hundred years old.’
’For a Legendary Warrior, a hundred years is still considered their prime.’
’But they could hardly be called young.’
’Could he be the descendant of one of the emblem holders?’
the Grand Archbishop wondered.
He was quite curious himself.
The Grand Archbishop said, "Bring him to the Holy Light Hall to see me."
"As you command."
The Priest found Li Wei. "Your Excellency, the Grand Archbishop awaits you in the Holy Light Hall."
"Please, come with me."
Li Wei stood up and followed the Priest toward the Holy Light Hall.
The Priest glanced at Diana, who had started to follow, and stopped. "Your Excellency, please have your handmaiden remain here and rest."
Li Wei turned back to Diana. "Stay here and wait for me to return."
Diana halted.
The Priest led Li Wei to the Holy Light Hall.
The Holy Light Hall looked far more austere, yet it made one feel closer to the Holy Light.
The main Divine Hall was magnificent and opulent, but the Holy Light Hall inspired a yearning for the Holy Light itself.
Li Wei could even feel the influence of the Ring of Arrogance, which always surrounded him, begin to fade.
The Priest stood at the doorway and gestured for him to enter. "Your Excellency, please go in."
Li Wei walked into the Holy Light Hall.
