He Became A Monstrous Genius After Obtaining A Time Dilation Artifact
Chapter 727 - 726. Partnership
The assassin was extremely scared as she stared into the eyes of the target—a prey now turned predator. Or wait, was he not rather hunting her from the start? He must have known she was following him all this while. Did he lure her into the alleyway?
Wait... why was she thinking about all this now?
She felt extreme pain in her head. It was as if the cells in her head were shaking, about to collapse into one another at any moment. But... it seemed she didn’t have any way out of this situation. When she looked into the fellow’s eyes, she knew there was no way he would spare her. Also, she did not want to bet on the fact that he won’t get her boyfriend involved, just like he said.
"Even if I tell him and he lets me go, the organisation is going to kill me anyway," she sighed inwardly. "At least, if he won’t go after Herve, it’s worth telling him who sent me. Also, I should tell him about the assassin organisation. Those bastards would have killed me anyway if I survived. Hopefully, when he’s strong enough, he can get rid of them for me."
Kailen saw that she had calmed down. She no longer looked afraid. Her gaze as she stared at him was one of someone who had accepted death as something inevitable. Kailen had naturally read her thoughts from her facial expressions.
"As expected of an assassin," he thought. "Even in death, she has plans of getting back at her organization. Not bad."
"The Guild in the Grimwood district, the Moment Guild," the assassin said. "They paid the Insidious Assassin troupe to eliminate you. Me, alongside several others, were selected by the organisation to get rid of you. Some of my colleagues were Rank 3 novice-stage transcendents. However, they disappeared for no reason."
She spilled the beans.
"So the guild must be protecting me from stronger assassins just like I thought," Kailen mused inwardly.
"Also, this Moment Guild..." A glint of coldness flashed through his eyes. He didn’t know about the other guilds; however, with the Crimson Fang Guild of the Wildermere District and the Moment Guild of the Grimwood District, it seemed he had debts to settle with them when the time was right.
"Please..."
Before she could finish speaking, her forehead molded and twisted inward, as the ethereal hue on Kailen’s index finger spread across her forehead. Kailen turned to leave. However, the face of the assassin imploded from behind him as he left. It was a very gory scene.
"Time to find a hotel," Kailen said as he melded with the void and disappeared.
Venzula Empire.
Richtchard City.
Grimwood District.
Anita Hotels and Reservations.
In a Suite.
Kailen was currently seated in the living room of his suite. He had chosen this hotel because it was close to the Grimwood District Law Enforcement Agency. He was dressed in loose, comfortable clothes. He knew he was going to be here for a while.
"Let’s get started."
Kailen activated the Principle of Space, his vision spreading across. Soon, his gaze settled on several individuals in the Law Enforcement Agency. Nothing seemed out of place. Several were going on about their business as usual. Kailen studied facial expressions quietly and patiently, gleaning thoughts with emotional resonance. He took a closer look at criminal briefings in the district and several activities that required the intervention of the Law Enforcement Agency in the district.
Nothing seemed to make a connection to the lead he had. But he was patient. For three days, Kailen watched and observed. He found nothing.
Until his eyes went wide open.
"Golden finger, why does that guy look so familiar?" Kailen communicated with the Will of the Universe as he noticed someone walking into a large office in the skyscraper of the LEA of the Grimwood District.
"Remember when you arrived at the docks of the city..."
She didn’t add anything anymore. However, Kailen remembered. The image overlapped with the image of someone.
"Those spaceships I was following to arrive at the Venzula planet. This fellow got out of one of the ships at the docks. Some fellows came to meet him and a couple of people. He seemed pretty important."
Kailen kept quiet and observed. The fellow entered the office. Someone stood up to greet him respectfully. Then they began to converse.
"Ma’am, we meet again," the fellow who just entered the office greeted the woman in the office. This woman was the head of the LEA of the Grimwood District.
"Mmm. How is the plan proceeding?" the woman replied.
"Don’t worry, Cecil. It’s coming along well. We have a deal. Naturally, as long as you do not reveal our whereabouts and keep us safe, we will hold our end of the bargain," the man replied. "Our preparations are almost complete. Very soon, I will make a breakthrough into the Rank 4 novice-stage transcendent level."
"Alright. It will be good for all of us if you break through. The principle fragment tower of the LEA of the district has been at your disposal since you arrived. I need your help to deal with Moment. After that, I will take over the Moment Guild and have access to another principle fragment tower," Cecil added. "That bastard does not want me to have access to their principle fragment tower. He’s on his high horse because his principle fragment tower is better than ours. Since he’s refusing to cooperate, we just have to stage his death as some sort of assassination when you deal with him."
"After that, I will resign from my post, take over his guild, and you can replace me here. If I am the one who recommends you for the LEA branch head in this district, no one will dare try to use a vimodial detection artifact on you because of my good reputation," Cecil added, a greedy glint flashing through her eyes. "When you take over, you and your other colleagues can have access to the principle fragment tower here and cultivate in it for as long as you want."
"I know," the vimodial sighed. "You don’t need to repeat yourself again."
He stood up, about to leave.
"Briggs... work hard and break through early. I’m losing my patience," Cecil added.
Briggs, the vimodial, replied, "By tomorrow afternoon, I would have broken through."
After that, he left the office.
Kailen’s eyes flickered as he observed the interaction from his hotel room.
"So that’s how it is. No wonder the vimodials have not been found. From their conversation, this woman, the head of the LEA of the Grimwood District, is partnering with them—protecting them and giving them access to the district’s LEA principle fragment tower because of their partnership to eliminate Moment, the head of the Moment Guild, for the benefits mentioned in their discussion. This Briggs is most likely the head of those vimodials," Kailen thought.
"Now, how the hell am I supposed to assassinate a Rank 3 novice-stage transcendent? Also, what do I do about Cecil a rank 4 novice stage transcendant now involved?"
Kailen scratched his chin. A glint flashed through his eyes. He thought of something.
"That could work."
