Chapter 731: Chapter 731. Dead end.

The morning light peered through the clouds.

Kailen appeared in the clouds somewhere in the southern mountain range. This was the place where the chimera creature—with the tail of a fish, limbs of a lion, and the head of a serpent—that Kailen had encountered after killing its kin some years past had been.

Kailen had returned here to hunt for Rank 2 novice-stage chaotic beasts. Kailen recalled that a lot of space principle chaotic beasts dwelt here. Several chaotic beasts were gliding through the clouds, making beast sounds. They would meld with the void and reappear somewhere in the clouds. Some of the creatures were very large, blotting out the skies. Others were tiny.

The moment Kailen appeared, one creature shot towards his direction as a glint flashed through its eyes—a testament that it had some intelligence. The creature was the chimera whose kin Kailen had killed some years back. It was still a Rank 2 novice-stage chaotic beast. The creature’s eyes flashed with murderous intent as it stared at the strange-looking tiny creature floating some distance away from it.

This was one of the creatures that killed its kin, the creature thought. Although it managed to get rid of the fellow’s associates some time ago, it didn’t find this fellow no matter how much it searched for him. It was time for revenge.

The creature made some sounds. Several of its kind gathered around it. They were all extremely large. Their figures blotted out the skies. They shot towards Kailen. The void across their mouths rippled, twisting into several ethereal conical arrows in the mouths of the creatures at the same time. It was as if they were coordinating like a team.

Kailen didn’t retreat. He didn’t need to. He was confident in his strength. He would never overestimate himself and come here if he was not certain he could handle them. Kailen stood calm, floating in the air, the wind billowing through his long coat.

Slowly, he stretched his hand forward. The void across him twisted into a large ethereal halberd that blotted out the skies. Kailen did not even wait for the creatures to get near him. The ethereal halberd swept across, carving through the void, causing it to ripple and twist like waves of the sea.

The halberd appeared before the approaching chimeras, drawing near with their ethereal conical arrows. The spatial halberd and the spatial conical arrows met. For a moment, it was as if they were imploding into one another, space bending and twisting into itself as they collided.

The ethereal halberd cleaved through the ethereal conical arrows and tore through them, carving them into nothingness. Its ferocious sweep continued and cleaved through the gaping mouths of all the chimeras, hollowing their heads out of existence. They didn’t even know how they died.

Their dead bodies floated in the sky. Their principle fragments appeared on their dead bodies. Kailen had just killed several Rank 2 novice-stage chaotic beasts. It would be very staggering for anyone to witness someone who had not been a Rank 2 novice-stage transcendent for long to achieve this.

Kailen sighed. "I need to get stronger."

Quickly, he sat down and started comprehending the space profundities in the principle fragments. After finishing with one, he would move to the other. Kailen continued this process for a long time. He did not even focus on the time. When he was done, all the principle fragments had weathered away.

He would proceed to hunt several Rank 2 novice-stage chaotic beasts, make use of the principle fragments to enhance his space principle, then repeat the same process. Very soon, the Rank 2 novice-stage chaotic beasts with the principle of space at his location had all been cleared by him. Kailen decided to move to a different location he had spotted.

As he moved across one of the mountains, Kailen came across a group of people in a dense tree area running down the mountain. They had worried, terrified expressions on their faces. They were currently being besieged by some chaotic beasts stronger than them. At the moment, some Rank 3 chaotic beasts were chasing them.

"It’s those fellows," Kailen thought.

These were the guys who antagonized him when he arrived in the southern mountain range a while back. They were the fellows who thought he wanted to secure their principle fragments for himself. Kailen naturally saw them struggling as he passed by. But he did not give a damn about them. He was not a hero. Even if they had not gotten off with him on the wrong foot, he would not have gone out of his way to do anything to help.

Kailen was not the only one who recognized them. They also recognized him. Hope flashed through their eyes as they fled from the Rank 3 chaotic beasts. The person in the lead, the fellow with the dreadlocks and tanned skin, ran towards Kailen’s direction as he communicated something to his colleagues.

He intended to use Kailen as a diversion so that the beasts could focus on Kailen and they would get the chance to slip away. The others sighed and nodded as they headed towards Kailen’s direction. They didn’t hold anything against Kailen Darkhaven. They had even offended him a while back when they encountered him, and they were sorry for that. But they didn’t want to die. He was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Or so they thought.

A glint flashed through Kailen’s eyes. He smiled.

Naturally, he figured out the train of thought of these fellows. As they headed towards his direction, Kailen simply melded with the void and disappeared. This was when they remembered that he had the principle of space.

Shit... that smile. He knew. They were never going to use him as a sacrificial lamb to escape.

When they appeared at where he had melded with the void and disappeared from, the chaotic beasts chasing them followed them there. However, they had reached a dead end. The chaotic beasts plunged onto them. They were helpless and powerless as the chaotic beasts ate them like snacks, their dying screams echoing across the mountain.
