He Chose First Love, I Chose the Alpha King
Chapter 220 Trap
Author’s POV
Silver Ridge Mine stood silent in the snowy darkness, the imposing abandoned structure casting long shadows across the rugged landscape. Inside the old mine office, Caesar paced the length of the room, his tall frame radiating barely contained power with each movement. The Wolf King’s normally impassive face showed rare signs of tension as Dylan, delivered the latest report.
"Alpha, William’s forces have been spotted along our northeastern border again," Dylan said, his voice low and urgent. "They’ve doubled their patrols since yesterday. Our scouts report they’re heavily armed."
Caesar’s jaw tightened. "And the media situation?"
"Getting worse by the hour. Three more financial publications have run stories questioning Vertex’s stability. They’re calling it a ’crisis of leadership.’ Stock dropped another four percent this afternoon."
"William’s work," Caesar muttered, his deep voice edged with controlled fury. "He’s been planning this for months."
Dylan nodded grimly. "That’s not all. Two of our allied packs have gone silent. No response to any communication. According to our intelligence, William’s representatives visited both territories last week."
Caesar’s eyes flashed dangerously gold for a split second before he regained control. "He’s isolating us. Cutting off our support before making his move."
The tension in the room was palpable as several security monitors displayed live feeds of the perimeter. A dozen of Caesar’s most trusted warriors were positioned strategically around the mine, prepared for the ambush they’d planned for William’s forces.
"What about Helena?" Caesar asked, his voice betraying no emotion despite the complicated history with William’s sister.
"Still secure at the safe house. She’s... not pleased." Dylan’s neutral tone couldn’t quite hide his distaste. Helena Blackwood’s obsession with Caesar was well-known among the pack’s inner circle.
Caesar was about to respond when his phone vibrated with an encrypted message notification. He pulled it from his pocket, expecting another security update. Instead, he saw Sylvia’s name.
"She figured it out," he whispered, almost to himself. The corners of his mouth lifted slightly as he read her final message: "Meet me at the Silver Ridge Mine. Let’s end this together."
For weeks he’d kept his distance, protecting her from the ugliness of this conflict with William, convinced that his methods would repulse her. He’d convinced himself it was better to handle this alone, to spare her from seeing this side of him.
Yet here she was, not running from the darkness but walking straight into it beside him. Understanding what needed to be done. Trusting him.
His fingers moved quickly over the screen as he sent his reply: "Wait for me."
Dylan cleared his throat. "Alpha? Is everything alright?"
Caesar looked up, a new resolve in his eyes. "Change of plans. My mate is coming."
"Luna Sylvia? But Alpha, the danger—"
"Is precisely why she should be here," Caesar cut him off, his voice firm. "She’s uncovered something critical. Victor Reynolds is William’s spy."
Dylan’s eyes widened in shock. "Reynolds? But he’s been in your executive meetings, your strategy sessions—"
"Exactly." Caesar’s expression darkened. "Have him contained immediately. Quietly. I don’t want William knowing we’re onto him yet."
As Dylan left to handle the traitor, Caesar found himself staring at Sylvia’s message again.
The guilt he’d been carrying since their last meeting—the pain he’d seen in her eyes when he’d left without explanation—began to lift. She understood. More than that, she was fighting alongside him.
When his security team alerted him that Sylvia’s car had arrived at the perimeter, Caesar moved with purpose toward the mine entrance. The snowfall had intensified, dusting the ground with a clean white blanket that crunched beneath his boots.
He saw her emerge from her car, silver-blue eyes gleaming in the darkness, the sight of her sent a wave of possessiveness through him. His mate was magnificent.
"You shouldn’t be here," he said as she approached, but there was no real reproach in his tone.
Sylvia’s eyes narrowed slightly. "Yet here I am."
Their gazes locked, and in that moment, a silent understanding passed between them. This wasn’t the time for explanations or reconciliations. There was work to do.
"Victor?" she asked simply.
"Contained," Caesar replied. "Your intel was accurate. He had access to everything."
Sylvia nodded, her expression grim. "William will be coming himself?" 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
"Yes. He believes I’ve captured Helena as leverage—which I have. He doesn’t know we’re aware of his spy."
Without needing further discussion, they moved in perfect synchrony toward the designated meeting point. Caesar watched with quiet admiration as Sylvia surveyed the terrain, her tactical mind assessing advantages and escape routes just as he would.
"Noah’s security team is positioned along the ridge," she informed him. "No one gets out once William arrives."
Caesar raised an eyebrow, impressed. "You’ve been busy."
A hint of a smile touched her lips. "I protect what’s mine."
The possessiveness in her voice sent a thrill through him that he carefully controlled. Now was not the time, but later... later he would show her exactly how much her words affected him.
Within thirty minutes, their scouts reported movement on the access road. William had arrived, and as requested, appeared to be alone.
