Oh?...

Would you look at that.... Hehehe.

That Sylvara would make such a direct statement could only mean one thing.

She had decided to challenge the peculiarities surrounding Zorat’s existence.

For someone who’s simply been observing on the sidelines since, she must have been desperate to understand what made Zorat tick, just like he was about her.

What she wanted from him, though, was still unknown. And though she asked such a confrontational question...

Zorat was reading a totally different emotion from her now that he was this close to her....

Hope.

But just because she asked, doesn’t mean Zorat would simply answer.

She wouldn’t even understand him if he told her, and if she did understand him, he doubted she would believe him.

Though the saintess was indeed special, she still operated under the rules governing this world, and for all intents and purposes, was still bound by the shackles set in place by some still unknown force to limit and cut out the potential of this world’s denizens.

"What do you mean by my origins, Sylvara?" Zorat asked with a look of genuine confusion on his face.

"Okay... let me rephrase that..... How did you know Victor Malverin would do what he did?"

Oh....I see.

"Well.... That’s because... as it turns out.... I am what you people in this world call a ’seer’." Zorat replied with a smile as he took a small sip of the tea Sylvara had offered him.

"No, you are not."

Sylvara’s curt retort came almost immediately after Zorat had spoken, making his lips curve with a small grin with the teacup to his mouth....

He then slowly brought it back down to the table, his expression transforming to one that had taken offense to Sylvarra’s response.

"And how would you be so sure about that, ’Saintess’?"

Sylvara was quiet for a while before shifting her body forward on the table while holding Zorat’s gaze as she uttered with deep conviction....

"I just am..... And you.....Caleb Cole..."

"You are certainly NOT a seer."

Hehehehe....

Looking at the confident Sylvara.....

Zorat could tell she was certain she now had a few things on him, maybe to use in drawing out more from him or something else.

But Zorat disliked being in a situation where he had no valid cards on the table to play.

Sylvara had set the table, but that doesn’t mean he would let her deal the cards. And since they were dealing in knowledge, and what she thinks she knows about him....

Zorat thought he might as well do something he had never bothered doing with the saintess since she’s never been his target for extraction....

He would get himself his own set of valid cards.....

Authority Of Mischief..... Desire.

If only I could get the voices to leave my head.

Hmmm..... interesting ....Hehehe.

Zorat was starting to piece together bits and pieces of things he knew of the saintess that just weren’t making sense until now.

If his guess was correct, he might even already know why the saintess had been curious about him, and even go all the way of inviting him over to her tent for questioning in the middle of the night.

"Okay, Sylvara... lets agree with you that I am not a seer, as you say...."

"What exactly do you want from him?. It’s not like I was summoned to this world to play the role of a seer to begin with."

"Or.... are you perhaps trying to blackmail me by suggesting I have some type of connection with the fugitive Victor?!" Zorat uttered with indignation and a clear irritation on his face.

"No no no!... that’s not what I was trying to do at all!" Sylvara waved her hands quickly in denial, looking anxious for the first time since Zorat had known her.

No saintess.... You definitely were trying to do exactly that... in a roundabout way, of course...

But now... what will you do?....hehehehe.

This was a trick Zorat had picked up through his years of experience.

When one is in a situation where someone is trying to progressively, indirectly accuse them of something by citing plausibility....

You have to hit the nail on the head first before they do, and flip the position of them now being the defendant while you become the inquisitor....

This will force them to defend themselves by denying what you are accusing them of. Positions flipped.

Looking at the confused saintess, she wasn’t even completely sure exactly what had just happened. But if she had any further doubts about Zorat, she definitely couldn’t bring them up again after that.

So, after a while of uncomfortable silence... Sylvara spoke again... this time softly and in a more friendly way, losing its former authoritative edge.

"I didn’t mean for my words to come out that way.... But... can I ask you a different question, if that’s not too much?"

Zorat was quiet for a while as if contemplating whether to agree or not, as Sylvara was almost drilling a hole through his forehead with her golden gaze.

"It’s fine... ask away."

Zorat said simply, turning back to her, as the earlier look of grievance disappeared completely from his face, replaced by his usual smile, making Sylava wonder if she had just been played, but it was already too late to address that.

"Don’t take this the wrong way....But...."Sylava began saying, adjusting in her seat, as her tone took a more vulnerable edge.

"The day I summoned you heroes to our world...."

"You....You did something to me, right?....."

"Do you perhaps have a special skill that affects the mind?"

She said as she searched Zorat’s eyes and face curiously for any reaction whatsoever.

As Zorat watched her watch him, he could feel the desperation emanating from her in waves.... She needed something from him.....

This wasn’t an interrogation.... The saintess was asking for help.

"And what if I say I do?..... Are you trying to find fault in my failing to control my skill, when I, too, only just found out I had it after you summoned us to this world without our consent, if I might add."

Zorat replied indignantly, and he could almost feel the warm joy emanate from the saintess at his response.

"Far from it, Caleb Cole...." Saintess Sylvara muttered, smiling.

"I have a request, though..."

"Can you please do it again?"
