His Mistress is His Ex-Wife - Chapter 322: A New Heir
"Boss! We are under attack. So many armed men outside?! What should we do?"
"Prepare to fight back! Secure our escape route." The gang leader instructed his men.
"Boss. It looks bad! We are surrounded!"
Several gunshots echoed through the mansion.
"Gather the hostages! We will make use of them as a shield!" The gang leader commanded. šš»šš®ššššš¤š«š®š.š¬šš¢
Dominique and Athena could hear the panicking voice of the kidnappers. At that moment, he stood up and covered Athenaās body with a robe.
"Lock the door, Athena. Donāt open it no matter what." Dominique said, holding her shoulders.
Athena had a worried look on her face. "Donāt leave me here..." she begged him, grabbing his hand.
But Dominique just gave her a reassuring smile before planting a soft kiss on her forehead.
"Just wait for me here," he murmured, caressing her cheeks.
Athena shook her head vehemently, tightening her grip on his arm. "No! Donāt go there."
Dominique took a deep sigh. "I have to do it. Otherwise, both of our lives will be in danger. Didnāt you hear them? They will use us to be their shield. You have to stay here, okay? Donāt worry. Nothing bad will happen to me. Our rescue is here..."
Athena reluctantly released him. "Promise me... You have to come back alive."
Dominique nodded in response. "Yes. I promise."
After saying those words, Dominique left the bathroom. He made sure to lock the door before shutting it behind him.
Athena could only watch his back until he vanished from her sight, her heart pounding so hard against her chest. She was scared for his safety. The gunshots continued.
Then someone kicked the door open. Athena heard the kidnappers shouting at Dominique before they dragged him out of the room.
They even asked him where she was. But Dominique told them to leave her behind. He willingly offered himself just to protect Athena.
"What took you so long? Forget about the woman! Letās leave now! Bring that guy over here!" One kidnapper yelled at his comrade.
Athens could only clutch her chest, her tears streaming down her face. "Dom..." she uttered his name while praying silently. āPlease... keep him safe.ā
The chaos continued. The exchanges of fire still reverberated in the mansion. The side of kidnappers refused to surrender without putting up a fight.
When the armed men successfully infiltrated the mansion, one man held Dominique, pointing a gun at his head while using him as a hostage.
"Stop shooting! Drop your weapons or else, I will kill him." The man threatened them.
He wasnāt there to fight. His true purpose was to buy time and create a distraction while the gang leaders and their accomplices prepared for their escape through the back.
The team leader of the armed unit quickly raised a hand, signaling his men to cease fire.
"Donāt fire. We need to ensure the hostageās safety. Lower your weapons, now," he commanded in a firm, authoritative tone.
The kidnapper was not aware that a sniper had already taken position inside the house, hidden from view and waiting for the perfect opportunity.
Just as the captor began to believe he had successfully forced the team into submission, a single shot rang out, clean and precise.
The bullet struck him in the head. He collapsed instantly, dead before he hit the floor.
The men immediately rushed in Dominiqueās direction to secure him.
"Find the other culprits! Donāt let them escape!" The team leader commanded his comrades.
Then he turned to Dominique. "Sir, are you alright? Are you alone? Where is the other hostage?"
Dominique didnāt respond. He just quickly ran back to the room where he had left Athena.
"Sir! Wait! We havenāt secured the place yet." The team leader wanted to stop him. But Dominique just ignored him.
Upon reaching the bathroom door, Dominique quickly called upon Athena while knocking on the door.
"Athena! Itās me, Dom. You can now open the door!"
Athenaās heart skipped a beat upon hearing that familiar voice. With her remaining strength, she walked toward the door and opened it.
Her eyes sparkled in delight when Dominiqueās figure came into her view. Without hesitation, she quickly pounced on him, hugging him tightly.
Dominique also held her body tightly, not wanting to let her go. He felt relieved, knowing that they were now safe. The wait was all worth it!
In Dominiqueās arms, Athena broke down as she burst into tears. She released all her pent-up emotions as she cried in his arms.
"We are safe now..." he gently said, patting her back to comfort her.
The emotional stress had taken a toll on her. Before she knew it, she collapsed in his arms and fainted.
"Athena..." Dominique called out worriedly as he scooped her.
The leader of the armed unit followed Dominique inside the room.
"Sir, we will escort you out of the mansion. Our Boss is waiting for you outside. We also brought an ambulance. The medical staff can take care of her." The team leader informed Dominique.
Dominique gave a silent nod and followed without resistance. His only concern now was Athenaās safety.
Cradling her protectively, he moved alongside the team as several armed men led them through the secured path toward safety.
Meanwhile, the rest of the tactical unit continued sweeping through the mansion, apprehending the remaining kidnappers and blocking every possible escape route.
Just as Dominique reached the ambulance parked outside the gates, the sound of screeching tires caught his attention. Another vehicle came to a sudden stop near the entrance.
Before he could react further, the car doors swung open, and Vladimir and Enzo jumped out, rushing straight toward him.
"Give Her to Me!" Vladimirās stern, cold voice was heard as he blocked Dominiqueās path. He looked daggers at him.
Dominique narrowed his eyes. He was about to refuse him, but Enzo stepped forward.
"Donāt fight," Enzo said, holding Vladimirās shoulder.
In the end, the medical staff approached them and quickly instructed Dominique to place Athena on the stretcher.
"What happened to her?" Enzo asked Dominique.
"Donāt worry. She is not hurt or injured. She just fainted."
Vladimir ground his teeth. Without a second thought, he pushed Dominique.
"Stay away from her!" he barked at him. Vladimir didnāt want to see Dominique getting close to Athena.
"Vladimir, you donāt have the right to yell at him." Miguelās voice was heard from behind, catching their attention.
He moved closer to Dominique, tapping his shoulder.
"This man is the reason why your woman was rescued," Miguel added.
Vladimir looked at his father confusedly.
"I mobilized my men, not because of you... But because of Dominique. He is my heir, my adopted son!"
"These men are meant to protect him and follow his command."
Vladimirās eyes widened in disbelief as the weight of his fatherās words sank in.
āWhat?! Is he kidding me? Dominique Smith? His new heir? His adopted son? Is this some kind of twisted punishment for going against him?ā
It felt like a slap to the face. Vladimirās heart pounded with a mix of rage and betrayal. Of all people, his father had deliberately chosen Dominique Smith, his rival, the very man he despised, to succeed him.
His father had handed everything... power, influence, and command... to someone outside the bloodline. Vladimir couldnāt accept this!
