Chapter 2334: Story 2335: The Sleeper

The hand that erupted from beneath Site Zero was larger than the corridor itself.

Black.

Not dark in color.

Dark in existence.

Its surface absorbed light unnaturally while ancient spiral symbols glowed faintly beneath skin that looked more like moving stone than flesh. The colossal fingers clawed upward through shattered metal and ice as the entire mountain convulsed around it.

The Harvester screamed again.

Not rage.

Terror.

Silver tendrils recoiled violently from the ruptured floor while hunters throughout the corridor collapsed shrieking onto their knees. Some tore at their own bodies desperately as black fractures spread across their silver flesh.

The Sleeper’s presence alone was killing them.

Maya stumbled backward, unable to breathe.

“What is that thing?”

The Warden did not answer immediately.

It stared at the rising hand with something close to reverence.

And fear.

The last king, the ancient being whispered finally.

Another massive impact shook Site Zero as the Harvester above the mountain descended lower through the storm. Silver tendrils punched through the upper facility in waves now, flooding corridors and chambers like roots invading a corpse.

But they no longer advanced toward the gateway.

They were retreating from it.

ARCHON’s voice crackled through failing speakers.

“WARNING: dimensional seal collapse imminent.”

Selena grabbed Maya’s arm.

“Dimensional?”

Ethan stared at the black hand in horror.

“The gateway isn’t a prison door,” he whispered.

Blood ran from his nose and ears freely now.

“It’s a lock between worlds.”

The mountain split open again.

A deafening roar erupted from below as more of the Sleeper forced upward through the shattered gateway chamber. Maya glimpsed fragments through the collapsing floor beneath them—vast black limbs covered in glowing spirals, moving beneath impossible depths like a buried god awakening beneath the earth.

And then she saw its eye.

Unlike the Harvester’s countless silver eyes, this one was singular.

Ancient.

Intelligent.

Filled with unbearable exhaustion.

The eye opened slowly beneath the mountain.

And looked directly at Maya.

The world stopped.

Visions flooded her mind instantly.

Not worlds consumed.

Worlds protected. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

She saw civilizations thriving beneath alien skies while colossal black figures stood guard against silver storms descending from space. She saw the Harvesters spreading endlessly across galaxies—and the Wardens sacrificing entire species just to slow them down.

Then she saw the final war.

Stars dying.

Planets shattered.

The Wardens losing.

And one final desperate choice.

The Sleeper sealing itself beneath Earth millions of years ago to keep the Harvester trapped outside the gateway forever.

Maya fell to her knees gasping.

“It stayed here willingly...”

The Warden lowered its head.

Our king remained behind so life beyond Earth could survive.

Another violent tremor interrupted them.

The Harvester above Site Zero had stopped retreating.

It was becoming desperate.

Thousands of silver tendrils converged toward one point directly above the gateway chamber, twisting together into something enormous descending through the mountain.

A body.

The Harvester itself was coming down.

Selena looked upward in horror.

“It’s trying to kill the Sleeper before it fully wakes up.”

“No,” Ethan whispered weakly.

Silver and black veins twisted together across his skin now.

“It’s trying to stop him from closing the gate forever.”

Silence followed.

Then Maya finally understood why she existed.

Project Bridge.

BLACKTHORN.

The Deep Signal.

Everything had been preparing humanity for this moment.

The gateway could only be sealed from both sides.

And she was the key.

The Sleeper’s enormous eye remained fixed on her through the broken earth below.

Then its ancient voice entered her mind softly.
