Eighty steps, fifty steps, twenty steps...

As Sun Hang got within ten paces of the monument, the shadows clinging to it finally began to change.

These shadows, like a kind of liquid, suddenly started to boil. Swelling bubbles continually surged from within them, their hair and beards danced as if a blazing black fire was burning fiercely. Faintly, Sun Hang seemed to hear a crackling sound.

Yet, they didn't move. They remained connected to the monument, and it was unclear whether they couldn't detach from it, or simply wouldn't let go... However, as the shadows mutated, the surrounding graves emitted a whispering noise. The dirt sealing the graves began to crack, and fine sand and gravel rose upward, much like the secretions from the eerie bones moments ago, followed by large chunks of compacted soil.

The inverted space gave Sun Hang a slight feeling of disorientation, but more noticeable than this was the pungent, sour, and putrid smell of death that wafted from the cracks in the graves.

"Mr. Yan, I have a question for you." Sun Hang didn't look back, focused intently on the monument as he asked.

"Speak," Yan Yu'an replied in the shortest words possible, cautiously scanning the cracked graves around them.

"Is the National Hero Cemetery in Lake Baikal City practicing burials or cremations?"

"I guess... cremations?" Yan Yu'an answered somewhat uncertainly.

"Then do you think what's crawling out of the graves now should be skeletons or ashes?"

"How... how should I know?" The fire control system of the Willow Leaf Saber had been deleted, all the ammo for the armor's weapons was exhausted, and the only ranged weapon Yan Yu'an had left was the assault rifle in her hand. Seeing the graves stirring all around, the tension within her spiked.

"But then again, this isn't the real National Hero Cemetery. Even if those heroes were cremated back then, reshaping a body for themselves after their obsessions turned weird shouldn't be much of an issue..." Sun Hang muttered under his breath, and at that moment, a bony hand still retaining rotting flesh burst out from the grave at his feet, reaching for his ankle with lightning speed.

In the next instant, Sun Hang stomped the bony hand back into the dirt with even greater speed, followed by several forceful stomps on the grave to compact the loose soil again.

Sun Hang could feel a force frantically struggling beneath the soil, yet under his suppression, that force was firmly held down, unable to break free even the slightest bit.

But Sun Hang could only hold down one coffin lid at a time. In places beyond his reach, one corpse after another was crawling out of the earth. The flesh on these corpses hadn't completely rotted away; pale white bone fragments and even whiter maggots were everywhere, and the strong stench of corpses almost enveloped the entire cemetery.

"These bodies are so fresh they look as if they were just buried last month," Wang Xiyi quipped while igniting two ghostly blue dragon flames in her palms.

Without any hesitation, the first eerie revenant transformed into a streak of pitch-black shadow—only the sound of "crack crack" was heard, and the two corpses closest to Zhong Ling had their necks twisted. The headless bodies flew away unexpectedly, knocking over several corpses that had just crawled out of the ground and weren't yet stable.

The overturned corpses, having lost their supports, plummeted toward the abyss above everyone's heads.

"Such a stench, truly a stench."

Sun Hang suddenly found a bit of truth in the saying "without comparison there's no harm." Compared to these bodies crawling out of the soil, the fat odd corpse under Zhong Ling's control suddenly seemed radiant and handsome...

"Do you find it hard to proceed?" Sun Hang glanced at Wang Xiyi, "After all, these corpses were once heroic warriors who fought to the death against the paranormal to save humanity."

"Not bothered at all." Wang Xiyi shook her head. "These corpses are merely imitations simulated by the paranormal. Even if those people's bodies really turned into paranormal cases, I think their deepest wishes would still be for me to help them rest in peace again..."

Before she even finished speaking, Wang Xiyi had already thrown out a Dragon Breath Fireball—landing in the densest area of the corpses. Unexpectedly, the fireball didn't explode with an earth-shattering sound but expanded silently, swallowing a dozen resurrected corpses in the blink of an eye.

Finally, Yan Yu'an also pulled the trigger, firing a burst at the two advancing corpses, the large-caliber full-power rounds blasting their upper bodies to smithereens.

Even so, with only a third of their limbs left, they didn't abandon the urge to attack. Like some kind of arthropod, they clawed rapidly along the ground towards Yan Yu'an's feet.

Sharp bone claws scraped madly against the alloy armor, producing that hair-raising sound akin to nails on a chalkboard.

Yan Yu'an coldly crushed the bone claw underfoot, sending shattered bones soaring into the air... or rather, down into the abyss.

"Feels like they never stop coming." Wang Xiyi scanned the surroundings, "Those graves that already had corpses crawl out now have an endless stream of bodies emerging... This is not a cemetery, it's a damn military camp for spawning troops, isn't it?"
