I am the Clone of a Death Row Inmate
Chapter 415 - 297: Prying Open King Mu’s Mouth
He sighed and stopped beating around the bush. "Su Ze," he said, laying his cards on the table, "my death won’t do you any good. When that old fellow wakes up, he’ll be even more difficult to deal with than I am. Anyone who can become a commander is utterly loyal to their race. He would never betray our people for his own benefit."
Su Ze was skeptical. ’I don’t believe that a higher position equals greater loyalty. History is full of high-ranking traitors.’
Still, Su Ze had to agree with one thing: if he had to choose between the Nian Race commander and the Mu King, he would much rather face the Mu King.
First, the Nian Race commander was stronger than the Mu King when he was alive, which meant he had more tricks up his sleeve and would be harder to guard against. Dealing with him would be far more exhausting.
Second, the Mu King was currently in peril. Since Su Ze held the man’s life in his hands, he could certainly make him talk and get the information he wanted.
’But what could I do if I were facing the Nian Race commander? Threaten him? Bribe him?’
’If the commander refused to talk no matter what, I’d be helpless. I couldn’t even threaten his soul.’
There was another crucial point: the Mu King had been to that mysterious inheritance, something the Nian Race commander knew nothing about.
While Su Ze wasn’t dead set on claiming the mysterious inheritance, he was extremely interested in it. After all, it held the potential to upgrade his Divine Grace of Evolution.
Su Ze feigned hesitation. "Trust is the foundation of any partnership, but you’ve been lying to me this whole time. That makes it very difficult for me to believe you."
"What is it you want to know? Just give me any one of the materials, and I’ll tell you everything!" the Mu King said hurriedly.
"I’ve already told you. I want to know why your Nian Race is invading Blue Star."
"That..." The Mu King hesitated. He was reluctant to speak, perhaps fearing that revealing the secret would cost him his greatest leverage.
A Spirit-Eroding Fruit appeared in Su Ze’s hand as he smiled. "If you’re willing to talk, this Spirit-Eroding Fruit is yours."
An intense craving surged within the Mu King. ’With that Spirit-Eroding Fruit, I could extend my time by more than half a year!’
The Mu King had been worried that Su Ze would be unable to find any of the required materials within two or three months, as they were all high-level, rare, and obscure.
To his pleasant surprise, however, Su Ze had managed to acquire a Spirit-Eroding Fruit in just a few days.
After a long hesitation, the Mu King still couldn’t make up his mind. He was afraid that if he revealed the secret, Su Ze would no longer care if he lived or died, leaving his consciousness to be devoured by that of the Nian Race commander.
Su Ze guessed what he was thinking and deliberately asked, "You’ve been to an inheritance before, haven’t you? Is that where you got the Golden Bloodline Crystal?"
"How do you know?" the Mu King asked, astonished.
’There was a puzzle fragment among my belongings, but it didn’t reveal any information about the mysterious inheritance.’
"I also know that the inheritance is related to the butterfly that arrived from space a thousand years ago, and that the puzzle piece is one of the keys to unlocking it. Furthermore, you’ve been laying low in Mu Country because you’re plotting to claim that inheritance, aren’t you? And I’d wager you haven’t told any of your clansmen about it."
Su Ze brought this up intentionally to reassure the Mu King. An inheritance of this level would tempt anyone, and Su Ze was no exception.
As someone who had already explored the inheritance, the Mu King possessed a great deal of information about it—intelligence that was also extremely valuable.
Therefore, even if the Mu King revealed the Nian Race’s plans, he wouldn’t lose his value. Su Ze would still have a reason not to let him die, not to let his consciousness be devoured by the Nian Race commander.
The Mu King was silent for a long moment before he finally gritted his teeth. "Fine, I’ll talk!"
