I am the only Cultivator in a Mana Dominated World
Chapter 1: EXTRA WHO NEVER EXISTED
"...Luna, Wake up." I said to the little girl sleeping on top of my chest.
No response. I stared at her face a few seconds before letting out a sigh. So it still isn’t a dream. I looked at the alarm clock that was on the desk.
7:12 AM, Monday.
The day before the Academy entrance ceremony. I looked back down at the small creature snoring on top of me. She was drooling slightly. I considered throwing her off the bed. But immediately shook off the idea because she would probably cry and would need a lot of effort to quiet her down.
"Wen..."
"Hm? Are you awake now Luna?"
Luna titled her body a bit and I was unable to breathe because of how heavy she was. I don’t mean she’s fat but she’s a bit heavy. "Don’t move... I can’t breathe."
"Mmm... wen bweathe tomowwow..." She muttered.
"Luna, it’s time to wake up." I pinched her cheek lightly.
"Mnn...dwon’t, I wanna sleep more.." Her eyebrows twitched before she opened one eye and stared at me. Then she smiled. "Bwother."
"Move. I need to get up." I said sternly.
"No. Luna wants to sleep." She shook her head.
"You’re getting heavier because you sleep all day."
She huffed and started hitting me. Three days ago, I got hit by a truck while I was on my way to work and woke up in this world with memories that weren’t mine instead of a hospital.
At first, I thought it was a dream. Now? I just accepted the fact that I have transmigrated and I would be stuck here for the rest of my life. But I was honestly annoyed by the fact that I need to attend school again.
"Bwother."
"Hm? What is it Luna?"
"Cawwy me to the kitchen. Luna wants to eat bweakfast."
"You’re already glued to me."
"No. Cawwy me pwoperly." What an unreasonable person. Luna looked at me with her big sparkling eyes that made me naturally accept her request.
I stood up carrying Luna and made my way to the kitchen. Luna wrapped her arms around my neck and started giggling. ’Spoiled brat.’.
Not my fault she turned out this way. The previous owner of this body and his family spoiled her too much. I opened the door and walked downstairs. The smell of breakfast immediately hit my nose.
I sat Luna down on a chair and started staring outside the tall glass window. Even after three days, I can’t get used to this world. This world was exactly like Earth but nobles and royals ruled the world. Magic existed and people awakened supernatural abilities to defend against the demons.
And somewhere inside all this was the novel I used to read. Yeah, I transmigrated to the world of the novel I used to read.
"Ren, you’re finally on time for breakfast for once." My mother placed a cup on the table before looking at Luna hanging on my shoulder.
"She slept in your room again?"
"She invaded my room at midnight."
Luna lifted her head immediately. "It was secwet mission."
I looked at her silently.
"...Who taught you that?"
"You did."
That sounded believable.
My father lowered the newspaper slightly, hiding a smile behind his coffee cup. The Valecrest family wasn’t powerful enough to stand among the great noble houses, but we were respected. My father owned a mid sized guild and my mother managed the accounts.
"Tomorrow’s the entrance ceremony," my mother said. "Try your best to get a good rank, my dear."
"I’ll consider getting a good rank. But first let me gobble up my breakfast."
Luna giggled like she understood our conversation. My father folded the newspaper and finally looked at me properly.
"Are you nervous son?"
"No."
"Then, are you confident?"
"No."
"...Then?"
"I just don’t care very much about it. But don’t worry, I will try to get a decent enough rank."
I lied, I cared enough to spend the last three nights unable to sleep properly. I can’t wait to see what rank my aspect and mana is even though I know I won’t have anything special.
I still can’t believe I’m here. I had spent two years reading that story. I still remember some important stuff like the protagonist, the major things that would happen in the academy, the heroines. But no matter how much I try I can’t remember Ren Valecrest. Ren Valecrest never existed in the novel.
"Bwother?"
I blinked. Luna was staring at me while holding a spoon toward my face and poking me with it.
"...What are you doing?"
"Can you fweed me?."
I took the spoon she was holding, "Here, open your mouth." Luna opened her mouth wide and devoured the food like a gluten.
Ridiculous child. Maybe because of that, the tension in my mind eased slightly. Whatever this world was, whatever happened later, right now this was real enough.
The warmth of the coffee in my hand. The sound of Luna chattering endlessly. My mother scolding me to stop ignoring her and my father pretending not to laugh at the comedic scene taking place.
"Ren."
I looked up. My father tossed something toward me casually. A sleek black card that had the academy insignia on it. My ID card "Don’t be late to the academy tomorrow."
I rolled my eyes, "I know, you don’t need to remind me."
"You say that every time but you are late everytime."
"I’m usually only slightly late."
"That’s still late."
Luna suddenly raised her hand seriously.
"Bwother should skip acawemy and stay home wif me."
That’s a tempting offer but unfortunately, the academy was where the story truly began. Which meant it was also where problems began. The protagonist would be there. The people favored by heaven would be there. And the heroines.
And somehow...I had ended up in the middle of it.
I glanced toward the television on the wall while eating my cereals. Morning news played quietly in the background.
"...the heir of the Ashbourne family has officially enrolled into Aether Academy this year..." My hand stopped. Ashbourne. How can I not know that name.
On the screen, a young man stepped out of a black vehicle surrounded by reporters and academy staff. Black hair, red eyes, and annoyingly handsome. Exactly the same as the illustrations from the novel.
The protagonist of the original story. For a moment, my thoughts slowed. Not from fear or excitement but from the very realisation that this was real. I was really inside a world that I’ve read about once. And the story of that world...was about to begin. But where the hell was my system? Don’t all transmigrators get one. Why am I the only one without a system?
