I Am Your Natural Enemy
Chapter 920 - 337: Following the Clues and Making a Run (5k)
Wen Yan sat on the chair, flipping through the "Demon-Sweeping Chronicles," thinking, Taoist Li giving this book was indeed quite appropriate.
In the Scorching Sun Department, there is actually very little information on demons because there aren’t many samples.
Considering that demons are a large category similar to magical beasts, and under the demon category, there are many types; unless they are completely identical demons, the experiences obtained from the limited samples now can basically be ignored except for the general ones.
This book records Immortal Zhang’s accounts of slaying demons from sixty years ago; just selecting representative ones from each category is enough to organize them into a book.
Reading the preface, the original version was indeed not personally written by Immortal Zhang but recorded by his disciples.
However, the credibility of this is very high; the intention was Immortal Zhang, who thought he could forcefully slay a demon because of his strength, yet pondered how those less powerful could handle it?
Many of the contents are Immortal Zhang’s original words, documenting how to deal with demons.
Some more unique or powerful demons even have three strategies provided: superior, medium, and inferior.
Of course, Taoist Li from Wudang gave Wen Yan this book not for knowledge but to learn how Immortal Zhang once fought barehanded, beating a physical demon into a green oily mess, or obliterating an entire nest of demons into ashes, acquiring such vigor.
Wen Yan indeed wasn’t focused on these aspects; he was more concerned with various demons, some of which now have no existing records.
Immortal Zhang’s original words were that demons are not of constant shape or state. They are not among any of蠃鳞毛羽昆, yet can be any of湿生卵生胎生化生.
These things are the result of normality turning abnormal.
These creatures are endless and unextinguished, especially those of化生, which do not need to inherit DNA to be born.
There are also some, shapeless and formless, that are difficult to thoroughly achieve a kill.
This book records a case of a demon that allegedly was not slain by Immortal Zhang.
"During the bitter cold years, the Taoist fields were filled with frozen bones, three hundred and ninety-three, all with wooden expressions, sitting desolately in the snow, spanning a hundred miles."
That year, temperatures dropped sharply with a blizzard, the weather suddenly changed from unfrozen to a major snowstorm.
Immortal Zhang happened to be on the trail of a demon, hurrying down the road, seeing travelers frozen on the way.
Immortal Zhang noticed something abnormal with some people; frozen individuals usually huddled in a ball or, due to a dying illusion, feeling warm, would strip off their clothes.
However, they wouldn’t just suddenly sit in the snow with expressions devoid of pain, simply numb, peacefully sitting there, frozen to death.
The abnormally frozen pedestrians did not appear together, but every now and then, one appeared, stretching along the road for a hundred miles.
Immortal Zhang naturally found this suspicious, after killing the tracked demon, immediately began investigating this incident.
Immortal Zhang discovered that the demon was shapeless, capable of possessing, determined to eradicate evil, tracked it for the first time, immediately used the True Martial Magic Sword, directly summoned people, borrowing the True Martial Dharma.
Unfortunately, it was already the time when the Last Dharma manifested, not far from when Old Zhu accelerated by stepping on the pedal.
At that time, Immortal Zhang was still young, with one strike, the demon vanished, unsure if it was utterly destroyed.
Since then, there have been no further traces for over a hundred years, leaving only this record.
And since its appearance, later generations have never heard any demon matching this description.
Naturally, nobody took Immortal Zhang’s words about the possible survival of the demon seriously.
Immortal Zhang’s status in his later years was far higher than that of the current Old Celestial Master; he was the only one after the complete arrival of the Last Dharma not versioned with others.
So under circumstances where this didn’t reappear for several hundred years, what Immortal Zhang said, everyone considered the old immortal self-effacing: not filling words, but to learn such an attitude, always remember that pride brings loss, humility brings benefits.
Wen Yan carefully finished reading the entire book, again paying special attention to that crucial section.
The recorded section indeed had many highly matching aspects with the person currently being sought.
Wen Yan checked the time—it was still early—so he called Taoist Li Qixue directly.
"Taoist Li, I have received the treatise; many thanks for your gift.
I’ve read the ’Demon-Sweeping Chronicles’ twice, deeply inspired, and greatly encouraged.
Immortal Zhang is truly a model for us; I only regret not learning even a bit from him.
Might there be a more detailed version of the ’Demon-Sweeping Chronicles’ or related documents?
I wish to study it more thoroughly and deeply.
Especially on the parts regarding Immortal Zhang’s demon slaying."
On the other end, Li Qixue received the call, originally thinking Wen Yan called just to express thanks.
Unexpectedly, Wen Yan actually showed great interest in the book and the stories of the ancestor slaying demons.
Li Qixue was overjoyed, a sense of achievement arising from hope finally showing effect.
Just like a junior who definitely could score one hundred, missing just a bit, but he pointed them out, forcibly turning it around, allowing the junior to achieve a full score!
