I Awakened An Outer God Class
Chapter 55: Hunter Association [2]
Mikhail arrived in front of a door on the second floor with a gold name plate on it.
’Vice-Leader Liam Vernon...’
Mikhail read it and immediately wondered if the man was a noble.
’...There is a high chance that he is, and also a chance that he is pro-royalty.’
Mikhail drew in a deep breath and knocked on the door twice.
Kevin had been left behind to complete his hunter registration while Mikhail came here.
"You can come in." A slightly aged voice echoed from the other side of the door.
Mikhail twisted the doorknob and walked inside, immediately finding a grey haired man sitting on a large chair.
The man looked to be in his early fifties with a long beard and a rolled up moustache.
He had a rather large frame with broad shoulders and thick forearms, completely different from what one might expect of his age.
In his hand was the letter that Daniel had asked him to pass along.
Liam looked up and gave him a warm smile.
"Mikhail, I presume." He gestured at the seat opposite him. "Please."
Mikhail sat down without a word as the older man kept on reading the letter.
With a sigh, he put it down and rubbed his face with both hands.
"I am glad you are doing well, my friend." He mumbled under his breath before looking up.
"Daniel always said he never liked having an assistant because they could never keep up with him." Liam said with a nostalgic smile. "But it seems he really liked you."
Mikhail smiled back and replied. "He was a good mentor."
Liam shook his head and picked up the letter.
"Looks like Daniel doesn’t see it that way." He replied. "He said in the letter that you are someone equal to him, albeit a little too green."
’I am just a guy who has read a lot of mystery books, sir.’ Mikhail frowned and couldn’t help but slump inwardly.
Though outwardly, he just gave a small smile.
"Things were really easy when Daniel was working with us." Liam said softly as he leaned back in his chair. "He was so good at his job that even the royals hired him...."
At the end of his sentence, Mikhail keenly noticed the dissatisfaction in the old man’s voice.
’Daniel did have to leave the capital because of the royal family....’
"Once he left, it kept on getting harder to capture cult members and followers of unorthodox churches."
Liam looked at the letter in his hand and sighed deeply.
"Even the enforcers from the church are having a hard time."
Mikhail tilted his head and couldn’t help but ask. "Don’t they have someone with Seer or fate related skills in their ranks?"
Liam smiled softly and replied cryptically. "Fate is never on the side of justice."
Mikhail tilted his head and didn’t reply or ask any more questions. It was clear that Liam didn’t want to talk about it.
The old man looked at the letter once more and then glanced at Mikhail.
"Daniel asked for two things." He said, straightening his back. "To provide you with a Hunter Association ID and a part-time job as an assistant detective."
Mikhail lowered his head and thought about it for a few seconds.
’This could work in my favour...’ He thought as he began to consider his course of action.
’I can gather Authority points by bringing pain to Gods and deities. Would helping to capture their followers not count as one?’
Mikhail knew that dealing with such small pawns would not do substantial damage to deities, but he didn’t want to fully provoke them either.
He only wanted to cause tiny bits of harm, which would be more than enough for the current him. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Adjusting his train of thoughts, he looked at Liam once again. "Is there a way I can help?"
The old man nodded instantly but his expression became rather odd the next moment.
"I do not wish for you to risk your life like Daniel." He replied gently. "If you are like him, then I hope you don’t..."
He didn’t finish his words and Mikhail couldn’t help but chuckle.
"I am very much in love with my life." He said deeply. "I will not put my life in danger for nothing."
Liam let out a soft sigh before nodding his head.
"It would be best if you don’t start working immediately." He said after some consideration. "It’s better if you familiarise yourself with the city first."
Mikhail nodded his head. "I understand."
Liam gave a soft smile before he began writing on a sheet of paper.
As Liam was writing, Mikhail couldn’t help but ask softly. "What actually happened between the royal family and Sir Daniel?"
Liam stopped for a second before he replied gently. "It’s related to the Church of War God...it’s better if you don’t get involved in it."
Mikhail wasn’t surprised by such an answer. He had been more or less sure Liam wasn’t going to talk about it.
After finishing writing, Liam passed the sheet to Mikhail. "Give it to Ria and she will complete your procedure without checking your rank."
Mikhail took the paper and smiled gratefully. "Thank you."
He turned around and walked towards the door without folding the paper.
When he touched the door handle, he heard Liam’s voice again.
"We are in talks with the royal family and the church of the Faceless Moon for ownership of a new rift."
His voice was unhurried, like he was sharing ordinary information.
"In two weeks, you might be able to enter inside."
Mikhail turned halfway and replied with a smile. "Thank you."
He opened the door and walked outside while Liam looked at his departing figure.
The smile on his face died down as he stared at the letter with a complicated expression.
After a few minutes of debate, he lit a candle and burned the letter.
Then he leaned back in his chair and looked up at the ceiling.
He then remembered the question Mikhail had asked him about Daniel.
A thought crossed his mind as he gently whispered.
"Angel of Light."
