I Have a Dice Left by a God
Chapter 613 - 205: Discovery
The atmosphere at the Round Table Conference was a bit strange, and Li Xin rarely noticed something unusual about Mr. Cancer.
"Mr. Cancer, is the Phil Family your friend? Of course, it could be a mistake, not the same Phil Family," Li Xin said.
A mist obscured Christian’s expression. Inside him, a storm of emotions brewed, and the recent disturbing, uncomfortable feelings were finally validated.
The butler has an issue!
There must be something wrong with the coffee I drink every day! 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
"Gemini, I need a favor," Christian said solemnly.
"Mr. Cancer, you’re being too polite. Every time you just... cough cough, I mean, I also often receive your help," Li Xin almost slipped up.
"Next time at the Round Table Conference, or when I actively seek you out, bring up the matter of the Phil Family being annihilated."
"Do you need me to investigate the details of the Phil Family’s destruction?" Li Xin asked.
Christian shook his head, "No need, but don’t forget."
"Don’t worry, Mr. Cancer, I won’t forget."
Christian nodded and leaned back, leaving the Round Table Conference.
Li Xin looked up at the star-filled sky, reflecting that even the all-knowing Mr. Cancer had his troubles.
Li Xin also left the Round Table Conference.
Back in his room, the first thing he did was roll the dice: the Enslaved Angels’ Tiss on him.
No sense of crisis; it seems the dice fear Divine Beings but are not sensitive to angels, giving an effective determination: three points.
Li Xin frowned; this determination suggested nothing, yet it wasn’t satisfying, as if there were some overlooked factors.
Having already used it twice, the dice were no longer usable, and Li Xin could only wait for recovery.
For the next two days, Li Xin, although appearing in the Night Patrol, was just going through the motions, gradually adopting the demeanor of a deputy leader.
Young people, once they gain power, it is natural for them to feel a bit inflated.
During this period, he made a determination once: the Enslaved Angels’ Tiss had been on him before.
Effective determination: nine points.
On Friday night, Kathy came. She had also heard the news of Jiang Wu’s death. If it weren’t related to Li Xin, she wouldn’t delve deeply into it. As the Secretary of the Chief Red-robed Archbishop, such incidents were countless, and she couldn’t possibly pay attention to each one.
Lin Fei knew the two had something to discuss, so after dinner, she went upstairs to work.
Kathy looked at Li Xin, "Do you want to make this captain position official?"
With Kathy’s current power and connections, along with Li Xin’s previous qualifications, it’s not a big deal, but sitting in that position is a very precarious situation.
"If I don’t do well, will it affect you?" Li Xin smiled.
"If a captain could affect the Secretary, then the Secretary wouldn’t be worth much," Kathy said. "But I don’t support your appointment. The internal chaos in the Church Court is beyond what you can imagine. The special nature of the Night Patrol allows it to maintain some principles, but this outcome also makes it a tool at the mercy of both the Council and the Church Court. Once you become the Shadow Owl Team leader, this identity will become a mark on your life, and your efforts won’t be recognized by these people."
"Sister Kathy, I do things because I want to, not for others’ approval," Li Xin said. "I’ve taken the position; don’t let others snatch it."
Kathy looked at Li Xin but didn’t immediately agree, sighing instead, "The Church Court plans to use the election period to target the Hundred Martial Hall. The Night Patrol will likely be the weapon, and if you take this position, there won’t be any resistance; instead, some people would be happy to see it happen."
"Are you in charge of this matter?" Li Xin asked.
Kathy nodded, "The conservatives, led by Fakson, have gained the upper hand. The affairs of the Night Patrol currently fall under my purview. The Hundred Martial Hall is the Moon God’s Court’s balance point in Dragon Capital, and any counterattack would be very intense. The upper echelons are merely playing a game, but for the ones who make a move, it will be quite serious."
The struggle between two complementary forces often doesn’t aim for complete elimination but rather a game, where the pieces, once used, are typically discarded, perhaps even offered up as a concession to the other side.
Li Xin frowned, "Are they targeting you?"
Kathy nodded, "Sort of, but the reasons are solid. Due to the continual waning of faith, suppressing the Hundred Martial Hall’s momentum is inevitable. Because of my connection, once you sit in this position, you could very likely become the vanguard."
The Chief Red-robed Archbishop rarely appears, so much of his will is executed through his secretaries. Kathy is a key figure, thus becoming the forefront against the conservatives led by Fakson. Though just a secretary, she represents the authority of the Chief Red-robed Archbishop. Fakson and others have always wanted to conquer her, but over time, they’ve been unable to undermine Kathy, who has even gained considerable power within the Church. They’ve decided to find an excuse to eliminate Kathy.
It’s not the first time; just one of many schemes, but facing the Hundred Martial Hall is undoubtedly the most dangerous.
It’s not only about the capability of the Hundred Martial Hall, but also the significance of the power structure it represents. Suppressing the Hundred Martial Hall to enhance the Moon God’s Court without becoming hostile is extremely delicate, and any mishap would provide Fakson with grounds for exploitation.
During this time, Kathy has been quite troubled.
Li Xin noticed, "Then I have to take on this captain role. Besides, I’m interested in the Hundred Martial Hall."
Kathy looked at the excited Li Xin, "Alright, but don’t act hastily; the waters run deep."
Li Xin nodded, "I’m worried about Aunt Fei and Xueyin. Captain Jiang’s case is pretty complicated, possibly involving Enslaved Angels."
Kathy frowned, "Xueyin won’t have issues at the Celestial Principle Study. I’ll have Lin Fei stay at my place," she paused, looking at Li Xin and continued, "What have you found out?"
Li Xin spread his hands, "I’ve just got a clue; the killer is likely a Puppeteer Angel from the retro path. I suspect the Metropolitan must be aware too, Sister Kathy, are there Enslaved Angels in Dragon Capital?"
As the Moon God’s Court’s Metropolitan, he shouldn’t know any less than Mr. Cancer. Thinking calmly, it’s wise he forbids Shadow Owl’s involvement.
Kathy contemplated, "There are various retro paths; some can use the new era, surviving by attaching to the universal path. Others cannot align with it and still rely on retro methods, few of which could become angels."
"Does it exist within the Church?" Li Xin asked.
Kathy nodded, "I will investigate, but it should not be the Church’s doing. Outside the Church, there’s the Song of Hell, whose singers are mostly experts from the retro paths, with high-end combat comparable to the Church Court."
"Sister Kathy, don’t intervene in this matter yet. Let me investigate further, and we can decide based on the findings. As long as Aunt Fei and the others are safe, it’s fine," Li Xin said.
