I Have a Task Log
Chapter 123: Thoughts on Going Premium
The book will be going up for sale tomorrow. I’ll probably post four Chapters directly around noon.
First, I’d like to thank everyone for your recommendations, monthly tickets, and donations. I’m also very grateful to my editor, Jiang Cha, for signing this book. With that said, I’d like to ask for your initial subscriptions.
Since the story is moving to a paid model, I’d like to talk a bit about the world-building.
Actually, when I started, I planned for this book to be a transmigration story set in Ferren. With a few name changes, Thousand Masts City in this book is basically the equivalent of Deepwater City (in fact, I even forgot to change it in some places and wrote Deepwater City directly). Rommon, however, is a combination of Thousand Masts City and a city from Baldur’s Gate called Soba. Since there’s no detailed official lore for Soba, I took inspiration from Divine Luo and other bustling trade cities with high population mobility to create my own version. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
So why not just write a story set in Ferren?
One reason is that the lore is a bit too complex. For example, if I wanted to design a late-game story arc involving Ammu, I’d have to consider the reactions of a Legendary Giant Dragon like Balagas "Flying Flame." Similarly, if I were to design an arc like the Giant Dragon Tyranny, I’d also have to factor in the reactions of even stronger Red Dragons like Chasssa and Hell Fire. Characters like Elminster and the Silver Moon Dragon Queen would definitely need to be included as well.
My skill level is honestly too low, and I wasn’t confident I could do it justice, so I decided to create something similar but distinct.
However, the lore and names for most of the Gods should be more or less the same as the originals.
Specifically, this book’s world-building draws from both 3rd and 5th editions. There’s no real standard; I just use whichever edition’s version I find more interesting. For instance, the height of the Frost Giants in the book uses the 5th edition stats, which makes them slightly taller than in 3rd edition.
A reader previously asked, "With so many Attributes given out in the early stages, won’t the power scaling collapse later on?"
I think it should be fine. When I designed it, the Attributes in this book were actually skewed more toward 3rd edition, where character Attributes are generally higher. Besides, in a novel, the protagonist will likely surpass Level 20 for most of the story (even though the book doesn’t have a strict Level system), so their Attributes shouldn’t be too low. After all, I’ll definitely need to include things like dragon-slaying later in the adventure.
Additionally, regarding "resurrection" Magic, the lore will strictly limit it, and it will probably almost never appear.
Finally, there’s the matter of the Deity of Deities. He probably won’t be making an appearance in this book. ( )
And last but not least, I hope everyone enjoys reading.
