I Just Wanted Friends, But My Summons Keep Eating the Bosses (ND)
Chapter 38: What if he lost his summons?
[Volume 2 - Dream System]
Night opened his eyes again in the sofa. He realized he had gotten scared and fainted; again.
Looking around, he saw the table was gone and Eve, Lilith, Death and Sara were sitting on chairs beside his bed.
Death, Eve, and Lilith looked at him with worry. Despite their faces being made only of bone and metal, he could perfectly understand what they felt because of their bond with him.
Meanwhile he noticed Lucy sitting near his pillow, looking weirdly at him.
It was not his fault Sara had scared the shit out of him with the creepy ambiance, he screamed internally ( ⁄ ⁄•⁄ω⁄•⁄ ⁄ )
But this act also proved that she was just acting and it was not the hostile crossover he had feared. Looking at her, he saw her gazing back at him while trying to suppress a smile.
Instead of being annoyed, he was happy she was enjoying herself. His recent near-death experience with the wolf had taught him that warm moments like this were what mattered most - for him, at least.
He got up quickly and picked up the tiny wolf imprisoning her in his arms. The poor wolf tried to struggle, but he still won in the end. (︶︿︶)
Lucy didn’t say anything to make the situation more embarrassing and just accepted her fate.
"I am sorry for scaring you like that," Sara said. "But this won’t do. If you get scared like that in a fight again and lose..."
"We need to help you overcome this weakness," she added with an evil smile. ( ΦωΦ )
Night shrunk back a little. He was not good with scary things; from what he remembered in his past life he was easily spooked too. He never watched scary movies and if he was ever manipulated into watching one by his family or friends, he would lose sleep over it.
He would become super paranoid always entering a room and quickly turning on the lights, checking every dark corner. Even when he slept in his bed he used to position himself so that his back was close to the wall, allowing him to easily see the whole room the moment he opened his eyes.
If he slept in the center of the room, he would constantly switch sides to ensure there were no ghosts creeping up on him.
In a nutshell, he was a scaredy-cat and this trait had unfortunately followed him into this life...
He was awoken from his thoughts by Lucy, who used her tiny horn to poke him in the chest.
"It’s time you get your Class selected," Sara said. "Awakening a Class from this Divine Treasure has its advantages. It gives you a choice."
"Doesn’t the System give you a choice as well?" Night asked, puzzled.
"Did you get to choose the Aspect you awakened during your Awakening?" Sara countered.
Night: ( ̄ー ̄)
Sara giggled. "If you had awakened with a Divine Treasure, it would have let you choose an Aspect."
"It’s not that bad if you think about it," Lucy said from his arms.
Night looked down at her, confused. (・◇・) ?
Seeing his confusion, she explained, thinking to herself: Not the sharpest tool in the shed, is he?
"The System automatically chooses the Aspect you have the most affinity towards during Awakening," Lucy explained.
"But the treasure she is speaking of would have shown you all the Aspects you have an affinity for. And if you perhaps like an Aspect that you don’t have the most affinity for; maybe it’s a close second but lacks by a few percentage points - this type of treasure would allow you to choose the Aspect with the lower affinity. This is where the choice comes from."
Now it was Night’s turn to smack his palm against his face.
"I think I forgot to mention it before, but I already had the [Nightmare] Aspect before Awakening," he admitted.
Lucy shut up the moment she heard this. (-_-)
"It’s a missed opportunity," Sara chimed in. "You could have awakened a completely new Aspect then."
Seeing him deflate, she quickly consoled him. "But it’s not all bad. Some treasures or chance encounters allow one to awaken Aspects later, so you just have to encounter one in the future."
Night felt Death, Eve, and Lilith consoling him through their bond as well.
Seeing that this opportunity to select a Class might still be useful to him, he asked, "When can I get my Class awakened?"
Sara smiled. "If you wish, we can go now. But before we do, it’s better if you know some things about Classes in general."
Having everyone’s attention, she continued.
"A Class is a way for us to get skills from the System. Unlike you who gets skills upon consuming your opponents, others get their skills as a reward upon reaching a certain level."
Hearing this, Night’s face bloomed into a smile, thinking he had a massive lead over others. (^▽^)
But Sara quickly brought him back to reality. "Your situation is good but it’s not all-powerful. There are ways to make up for the lack of skills."
She brought out her tome, showing it to them. "With this simple artifact, I can use a large number of spells, which are probably better than your skills since I can set the spell up beforehand and attack when the time is right."
"This makes my opening attack very powerful, and my targets rarely survive it. Even if they do survive, they are mostly half-dead and can barely put up a fight afterward."
Hearing this, Night was amazed. ( 0_0 )
If he had something like this, he could have steamrolled the wolf pack that had almost wiped them out.
Putting the tome back, she continued, "While artifacts can make up for skills, it’s very difficult to get one that perfectly suits you if you are poor."
Night: ( ̄ー ̄)
I will become rich and get all the artifacts, he mentally set a goal for himself.
Sara looking at a face that screamed he had just made a life-changing decision tried to stop a giggle by covering her mouth, but failed.
"What I mean is, Classes have a great impact on what type of skills you receive or don’t receive," she explained. "Also, these Classes provide stats like strength, agility, stamina, and so on. But you don’t seem to have these, so I will skip them for now." 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
"Selecting a Class has huge consequences. While a Class can be changed, most of the time a Class change results in losing previous skills if the new Class is very different."
"While Class names might be different from each other, similar types of Classes have many things in common."
"For example, a Warrior-type will have similar skills to other Warriors. A Mage-type Class will also generally have similar skills to other Mages, though they might specialize in different elements."
"So what really matters is which type of Class you wish for. There are some weird Classes that don’t follow this pattern and have entirely different skillsets."
"And if you come across a specific Class that suits you perfectly, you can pick that. If you just let the System pick at Level 10, you might get stuck with a Class that you don’t like."
Stopping here she looked at Night. Seeing she had his full attention, she continued.
"The common types of Classes are Warrior, Assassin, Archer, Hunter, Knight, Tank, Summoner, and Mage. There are some rare but not entirely uncommon types like Seer, Healer, Thief, Tamer, Guide... but these are rare and highly sought after."
"As for what these types are: a Warrior is someone who fights with weapons and has good attack and defense; an Assassin is someone who is physically weaker but has a deadly sneak attack; a Mage has good command over mana with strong long-range attacks but is weak when fighting head-on."
"If you want to know about a particular type, just ask since it is pointless discussing every single Class I know."
"One thing to note is not all Classes are equal. Usually the stronger ones will have flamboyant names, making it sound like selecting them will immediately allow you to pierce the heavens or crack the earth with a command."
"Don’t fall for it."
"You should pick a Class that you feel is most suitable for you, even if you see a Class that appears stronger but isn’t a good fit. A decent but suitable Class will allow you to grow, whereas an unsuitable but strong Class might just stunt your growth."
Hearing thishe felt like ’Summoner’ was the most suited for him. However, he noticed she hadn’t mentioned ’Witch’ in those common Class types. He was sure it was a Class, so feeling curious, he asked, "What about a Witch?"
Sara smiled. "It is one of those weird ones. Only a female can be a Witch; a male would be a Wizard. You will become a cute little Wizard if you choose that Class," she said with a wink. (^_-)
He was curious for more information, but he didn’t feel like distracting himself with too much information lest he become indecisive later.
For now, looking at his summons he felt this type of Class was what he should be focusing on. One thing she had said caught his notice: there were chances of losing a skill if he selected a very different Class...
What truly scared him was...
What if he lost his summons?
