I Just Wanted Friends, But My Summons Keep Eating the Bosses (ND)
Chapter 47: New Title, Rewards and much more
After a minute of silence, Blade asked, "Did you get any interesting skills?"
Then Night remembered he was about to check the system rewards before Blade had come into the room.
Looking at the notifications, he saw:
[Ambitious Hunter: A title granted for slaying a being much higher than your current level. When fighting beings above your level, the damage dealt will be 20% higher than normal.]
Finally, the System took pity on me and gave me a title that will close the gap a little in case I face a strong opponent again,
Night thought in relief.
(๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧
[Ding!]
[Summon (Common): Can be used to summon a being. The summoned creature depends on the Summoner’s records. The creature can be bonded with the Summoner when both parties consent.
Summons - 0/1
Note - The creature summoned can be something long dead, a creature wanting to become a summon, a collection of random records or just a brand new being coming to life. The possibilities are endless.
Warning: Part of the Summoner’s soul will be used during the bond to bring the Summon to life. Death of the Summon may lead to a permanent loss of the part of the soul used.]
It had so many details.
One thing he immediately noticed was that the skill was a Common grade.
The 0/1 indicator seemed to mean that he could have exactly one "official" Summon right now, meaning the number of Summons he could have would probably increase after the skill’s grade was upgraded.
Also, it didn’t seem to count Death, Eve, Lilith, and Lucy in that quota. Which was weird considering they were explicitly shown as Summons on his main status screen.
He then checked the next notification. The next skill was for reaching Lvl.15
[Ding!]
[Summon Evolution (Unique): A skill awakened in you with the help of the System because of a unique coincidence and absolute compatibility with the Class, with possessing summons prior to obtaining the Class playing a significant role.
This skill will passively evolve all the summons you have, while also giving you the ability to grant them the skills you possess.
It will also give the summons the autonomy to determine their own evolution journey.
Warning: Giving incompatible skills might harm them instead of evolving them. Granting a skill will permanently influence their evolutionary path.]
Night sat up in shock.
This skill’s ability came incredibly close to his [Nightmare Domain] in its utility.
While [Nightmare Domain] did many things, this skill was no slouch either. It was tailored made for Summoner class.
He had already guessed that the Unique Skill [Devour] he had previously; which was later absorbed by the Nightmare Domain must have been a core part of the Domain to begin with.
He had received it when he first used the Domain after all.
The same applied to the Unique Skill [Bond] which he had received when Lucy made a soul bond with him.
But his [Nightmare Domain] also had a similar bonding mechanism natively; his profound connection with Eve, Lilith, and Death was proof of that.
While [Nightmare Domain] allowed him to share his skills with his summons, it was not permanent, meaning the effectiveness depended on his active state and synchronicity but it also carried absolutely no danger.
But this new skill straight up allowed him to give skills permanently to his summons! Meaning his [Wind Dash] and [Wind Overdrive] could be directly hardwired into them.
But this was too risky because he might permanently cripple them if he messed up the compatibility.
Though it was incredibly tempting, he decided to properly research everything before doing anything drastic. The Academy was the perfect place to learn exactly how all of that worked. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
Looking at him looking so excited, Blade asked, not really expecting a straightforward answer, "Why do you look so excited? Did you get a good skill?"
Even Eve, Lilith, Death and Lucy paid close attention as they were curious as well.
Night looked at her with hesitation and after a moment of thought, he said, "I got a Unique Skill."
Night:
( ̄~ ̄;)
It was Blade who was shocked this time. She excitedly got up and placed her white hands on his shoulders, asking, "Really?"
Blade:
( 0_0 )
He could see her vertical pupils glowing, a clear sign she was genuinely excited.
Night looked at her in confusion.
Why was she so excited?
After all, he was the one who got the skill.
"Yes... why? What happened?"
Blade got a hold of herself and said, "I told you I am a Unique Being, right?"
Night nodded.
She continued, still holding his small shoulders. "Guess what kind of skill a Unique Being gets?"
Night replied, unsure, "Unique Skills?"
Blade rolled her eyes and corrected, "No, not skills; a skill. As a Unique Being, I was innately born with exactly one Unique Skill."
"Though I have never actually met another Unique Being, from what Sara managed to find out, no two Unique Beings are the same. They are so fundamentally different that it is stupid to even compare them. Meaning, a Unique Being is always alone."
The glow in her pupils dimmed a little at that.
"Also, a Unique Being cannot reproduce or procreate using any methods... meaning a Unique Being will always, truly be alone."
The glow in her pupils dimmed even more.
"But there is one thing they all have in common: all of them are innately born with a Unique Skill."
At this, the glow in her pupils returned in full force as she scanned Night from head to toe.
"Unique Skills cannot simply be obtained and the System doesn’t just grant them. The only other way to possess a Unique Skill other than being a Unique Being is to possess a phenomenally powerful bloodline."
"And my dear Night, you don’t seem to possess any bloodline..."
Hearing this, it was like he had been hit in the head by a hammer of enlightenment.
He suddenly realized why he likely didn’t feel much familiarity with his past life and why that very first Class had an impossible 101% affinity and explicitly mentioned it would change his race. Everything thing was probably connected to this.
What the race change meant it would turn him into a Unique Being?
While Blade hadn’t said a Unique Being could be born this way, the name itself suggested it. Why couldn’t a Unique Being be born under unique circumstances?
No wonder he felt that profound sense of destiny when he saw the [Natural Calamity] Class. Maybe it wasn’t just a Class name at all. Maybe it was exactly what he was supposed to be.
A Natural Calamity.
Night: ( 0_0 )
Seeing the expressions on his tiny face change so many times; from a look of deep understanding to a look of utter shock, Blade chuckled.
Blade: (^▽^)
Looking at her, he shared his wild theory and she easily connected the dots.
Then she asked with a tone of genuine worry, "So does that mean you lost the opportunity?"
Night smiled. "I think it was a very good thing I lost that opportunity. I am absolutely sure that opportunity would have cost me my friends."
Blade, though slightly disappointed completely understood him. After all she had been right there when it happened so it was easy for her to accept his choice.
Besides, he had a Unique Skill which meant he was technically half a Unique Being.
For her having half a family was infinitely better than having no family at all.
Initially she had decided to stay here simply because she saw that Night was not afraid of her and he was close to Sara.
Besides, seeing his destiny being actively manipulated didn’t sit well with her; she despised puppet masters the most.
She was also curious why Sara had brought him to meet her in the first place as this was her very first time doing something like that.
Now, she was genuinely glad. At least she had met someone similar to her and that someone wasn’t too bad, judging from the honest feeling she got from him.
The fact that him being special because he had summons before having a Class or because he had unlocked incredibly overpowered Classes, hadn’t even crossed her mind.
Looking at her looking at him like that, he wondered if maybe he should tell her the whole truth about the [Nightmare Domain]...
Thinking about it for some time, he decided it was for the best. If what she told him was true, then he doubted there was anyone better to share this with than a fellow Unique Being.
So, taking a deep breath, he told her everything.
Blade froze completely after hearing it. I see... so Sara knew about it and that’s exactly why she brought him to me.
"I don’t know why you currently have two Unique Skills or why you previously had more. All of this clearly has to do with that Domain of yours and I think there is much more to it than we currently know," Blade analyzed seriously.
"I don’t know if a Unique Being can possess more than one Unique Skill naturally or if this phenomenon is completely unique to you."
Realizing it was getting very late she decided it was best to discuss it later.
"You should get some rest now. Tomorrow you have to go and actually attend your classes. We can discuss all of this later."
Night agreed and lay down. As he got comfortable, he checked the very last notification he had received. It was another skill.
[Ding!]
[Body Modification (Common) (Lvl.1) - 100 EV]
[Allows the user to permanently modify their body by consuming various materials.]
[Y/N]
[Note: Once the appearance of a modification is done, it is permanent unless a new modification is performed. The benefits gained will be permanent and cannot be undone.]
Looking at this skill, Night finally realized why the terrifying entity he saw in his vision had such an abnormal, grotesque body. This skill was likely the reason.
After purchasing the skill while thinking about the various, creative ways he could use this skill on himself and his friends in the future, he happily drifted off to sleep.
...
Woken up by a firm shake, Night lazily opened his eyes only to find Blade looking down at him in deep amusement, while Lucy, Lilith, Eve and Death stood crowded around his bed.
Why was he being woken up with such grand fanfare? Her next sentence made him realize he had forgotten a very important matter.
"You are late for class."
Shit.
Night: (T_T)
