Chapter 26: Eat It Whole, Sylas.

When he reached there, his gaze fell on the dining table. There were a bunch of different kinds of dishes kept on it.

The entire room was filled with the delicious steam flowing out through the food.

Leon was standing next to the table, putting the cutlery onto the table, and while working, he was murmuring a rhythmic tune.

The moment Sylas’s cry reached his ears, his gaze shifted to his left. Kael was standing there, holding Sylas gently in his arms.

Leon’s eyes furrowed as he walked towards Sylas. "What happened, Sylas?" Worry was audible through his tone.

Sylas’s head turned slightly towards him, his eyes completely welled with tears. "M-Mister white..."

And the next instant, a loud roaring cry covered the entire chamber. "Wahhhhhhh!! Wahhhhhhh!!"

Leon staggered backwards, raised both of his hands as he muttered. "H-hey... don’t cry,"

His gaze shifted toward Kael, who was beginning to lose his temper. A few veins bulged across his forehead as he shut his eyes, struggling to hold onto his composure.

Sweat beaded across Leon’s face, his eyes darting between Kael and Sylas. He felt helpless, unsure of how to calm Sylas down.

But then an idea rang inside his mind. He quickly moved back and forth and touched Sylas’s cheeks gently. "Don’t cry, Sylas, I’m all fine."

He took a small pause as he pointed towards the dining table, and continued. "Look, I even prepared dinner for us."

Sylas’s eyes followed where Leon had pointed. Spotting the food, his cries began to ease, though a faint weeping still lingered.

"B-but mister white, you got hurt because of me," Sylas muttered.

A small sigh left Leon’s mouth, as a soothing expression appeared on his face. "Such a nice kid he is. I did protect him, but it was because of the fear of getting killed by the mansion lord."

He gently placed his hand on Sylas’s head and rubbed it a bit. "But see? I’m fine. So don’t cry and smile at me, okay?"

Sylas casually looked at him with his welled-up eyes, but then he wiped the tears off with the back of his sleeve. A gentle, yet bright smile tugged his lips. "Thank you for preparing us a nice dinner, mister white."

Kael’s body started to lighten up the moment he saw the smile on Sylas’s face; a sigh of relief left his mouth.

He instantly regained his composure and pointed his thumb towards his chest. "Of course, Sylas."

"If not me, then who, huh? I’m the only one who can cook a proper meal for us. Otherwise, we’d all starve to death relying on the mansion lord."

"Hehehe." A gentle chuckle escaped Sylas’s mouth.

But on the other hand, Kael’s mana had started to flow through his body. It wasn’t as intimidating as it usually was, yet it was enough to seep into Leon’s body and stir a quiet fear into him.

Leon’s body started to shiver silently, but it was enough for him to notice that something was wrong.

His attention turned towards Kael as he noticed tiny crimson strands flowing through his body. Leon instantly bit his lower lip and turned towards the dining table. "Uh... I just remembered that I was setting up the table."

Without thinking for another second, he started rushing towards the table. And there was only one thing going through his mind. "Fuck... I have to survive that monster!!"

Once again, he started placing the cutlery in a systematic order. While he was performing his tasks, Kael placed Sylas on his chair, and sat on the chair which was placed next to him.

The two began chatting while patiently waiting for Leon to finish his work and serve their food.

Leon placed their cutlery in front of them, a finely crafted plate, accompanied by a spoon and fork arranged according to proper dining etiquette.

Soon after, he started serving them food. First, he served Sylas. "Here you go, Sylas,"

"Don’t leave anything, and eat all of it for your future growth."

Sylas’s glimmering eyes were fixated on the food, and a small trail of drool rolled out through his lips. "Thank you, mister, white."

Kael’s hand moved toward Sylas’s lips, gently wiping away the faint trail of drool before offering him a warm smile.

"Enjoy your meal, Sylas."

His hand travelled towards the boy’s head for a moment as he continued, "And yes, it’s important to eat all kinds of food at your age. So eat as much as you’d like."

Sylas gave a gentle nod and picked up both fork and spoon, which were placed next to his plate. A sense of confusion fell over him as he wondered how to use them.

He grabbed the knife and fork and tried to cut the meat himself, but instead of slicing it, he only managed to splash some of the juice onto his clothes.

A faint smile appeared on Kael’s face. He took the cutlery from Sylas’s hands and carefully cut the meat into small, bite-sized pieces. "Now," he said, placing the fork back in Sylas’s hand, "pick them up and eat."

Sylas’s eyes didn’t waver from the plate; he gave a polite nod in favour of the idea. He grabbed the fork and gently picked up a piece of meat and ate it.

A rich, delicious burst of flavour filled his mouth the moment he took a bite. His eyes instinctively closed as he savoured every bit of it. "Yum!" he muttered, his face lighting up. "It’s so good!"
