I Just Wanted to Raise My Son... Why Is Everyone Challenging Me?
Chapter 39: I Took The Bath.
Kael completely ignored her as if she didn’t even exist in there, and said. "Three gold coins, right?"
"Yes, sir, three gold coins."
Kael pulled the gold coins out of his pocket and placed them over the counter. And the moment he did that, a thought lingered inside his mind.
’Back in my day, a family could live comfortably for a decade on three gold coins. Fifteen hundred years later, and it’s barely enough for three outfits. What has the world come to?’
A small sigh left through his mouth as he turned towards the exit and passed through it. Sylas remained in his arms, gently leaning towards Kael’s chest.
Without wasting any more time, Leon picked up the packets and followed behind Kael’s trail.
Sylvia remained there in utter shock as she muttered to herself. "Such a rude man he is."
Then, she followed behind them as well. Together, they made their way toward the mansion. By now, the moon had claimed the sky, bathing the world in its gentle silver glow.
A cool night breeze drifted through the air, rustling leaves and clothing alike, while long shadows stretched across the ground, adding a quiet beauty to the night.
When they all reached inside the mansion, Kael looked at Leon and said. "Prepare the clothes, we’ll leave in a while."
Instantly, his back straightened, and he snapped into a crisp salute toward Kael. "Aye aye, sir," he replied without hesitation.
Sylas’s voice echoed through the surroundings as he asked. "What will we do at Mister Count’s place, Dad?"
Without saying a word, Kael’s hand travelled towards Sylas’s head as he started patting him gently.
While he walked towards the hall, he finally replied to him. "We will go and have dinner at his place, and come back home."
Leon made his way towards the bedrooms belonging to Kael and Sylas. First, he went to Sylas’s room, and the moment he entered, he placed the packet containing his outfit on the bed.
He took the outfit out and silently examined it. The outfit was looking way too magnificent to him that he couldn’t bring himself to stop staring at it.
A sudden thought appeared in his mind. ’This will look way too good on Sylas.’
Without wasting any more time looking at the outfit, he simply placed both the top and the trousers on the bed and walked towards the exit.
When he entered the hall once again, he walked towards the opposite side of the room where Kael’s room was located.
He stepped into his room and immediately resisted the urge to look around. The chamber was faintly permeated with Kael’s crimson mana, so subtle that he hadn’t even noticed it at first.
His gaze eventually settled on the wardrobe, which remained firmly shut. Everything in the room was neatly arranged, each item resting in perfect order, as if the place had been meticulously maintained.
"Mansion Lord keeps all of his stuff tidy and clean." He took a small pause as he clicked his tongue and exhaled. "Why is he so disciplined like that of a retired hero or something?"
Then, instinctively, he started to shake his head lightly. "He can’t be a retired hero, he’s too young to be one."
When he reached next to his bed, he placed the packet containing Kael’s clothes onto it. When he took the clothes out of it, his eyes slightly widened.
He hadn’t expected it to be any worse, but the sight before him left him utterly baffled. The clothes Sylas had chosen were anything but ordinary. Their exquisite design and luxurious craftsmanship made them look fit for a high-ranking noble.
"These... these look far too good," he muttered in disbelief. "I never would have imagined that the Mansion Lord, of all people, would buy something like this. He’s usually far too stoic for such extravagant tastes."
A small yet tired sigh left through his mouth, as he shook his head once again. He clenched his fist instinctively, and a vein popped through his hand as he continued. "I can’t even imagine how good he’ll look."
Before he could think of doing anything else, Kael’s voice echoed through the air.
"Leon, stop wasting any more of my time and get here right away."
His back straightened instantly, eyes widened slightly as he said out loud. "Coming right away, Mansion Lord."
Instantly, he covered the distance between him and the hall. When he reached there, he noticed that Kael was sitting on the couch, his arms crossed as usual.
Leon stopped the moment he reached in front of Kael and straightened his back instinctively. "Yes, Mansion Lord?"
Kael didn’t reply to him, and minutes started to pass by. Leon had started to grow impatient just standing in there.
’What the... why is he taking so long?! It’s even longer than usual.’
"Mansion Lord—" Leon was about to say something, but before he could complete his sentence, the bathroom door opened.
His head instantly snapped toward the bathroom as the door opened. Sylas stepped out, droplets of water still clinging to his hair. His beautiful white locks were slightly damp, giving them a soft sheen, while his bright blue eyes sparkled with excitement.
Without wasting a second, he ran straight toward Kael. "Dad, I took a bath!" he declared proudly.
Kael directed his hand towards Sylas, who had stopped right beside him. The moment his hand landed on Sylas’s head, he started patting him gently. "Now go with Leon, and get ready for tonight."
"Hehehe!! Okay, Dad." Sylas said excitedly.
His head turned towards Leon, who was already looking at him with confusion in his eyes. Sylas grabbed Leon’s pants as he continued. "Let’s go, Mister White."
Leon’s gaze lingered over Sylas for a second, then shifted towards Kael. "Uh-uh... yeah, let’s go, Sylas." He muttered.
