Chapter 264: Chapter 264: When You Come Back, Let’s Get a Divorce

From start to finish, Claire Sinclair had never even touched the car. She didn’t know how to drive and had no desire to put on airs or show off.

And so, Little Prince Hale’s visit came to an end.

Claire Sinclair’s life didn’t change much because of it, and things returned to being peaceful.

...

On the 72nd day after Adrian Quincy left, Claire Sinclair finally received a call from him while she was taking an afternoon nap.

"Claire, it’s me."

"Huh? Who is this?"

Claire Sinclair hadn’t slept well the previous night, rushing to finish a manuscript. She was incredibly drowsy, and being woken up from a much-needed nap left her feeling irritable.

Adrian Quincy frowned slightly. "You were sleeping?"

"Yeah, I’m exhausted." Claire Sinclair’s head gradually cleared. She pushed herself upright, nursing her aching head. Her arm had gone numb from sleeping on it at her desk.

Adrian Quincy could almost picture her groggy expression, and he couldn’t help but feel a pang of tenderness. "Claire, don’t push yourself too hard."

"Did you need something?" Claire Sinclair asked in return.

"My mission on this side is complete. I’ll be back tomorrow."

"Oh," she replied, but surprisingly, she felt no great stir of emotion.

He was coming back tomorrow. It was a little unexpected, but it wasn’t a pleasant surprise.

’Perhaps because they’d been apart for so long, she had grown used to being alone and no longer felt much anticipation.’

’Whether he came back or not, her life would go on as usual...’

Hearing the coldness and indifference in her voice, Adrian Quincy assumed she was displeased. "Is there anything you want to say to me?" he asked.

Claire Sinclair was silent for a moment before speaking with a detached calm. "When you get back, let’s get a divorce."

"..." Now it was his turn to be silent.

"I’ve really thought it through this time. During the time you’ve been gone, I discovered that I’m doing just fine by myself. My life hasn’t gotten any worse without you. In fact, I’m more carefree than I was before I met you. This is for the best."

"..." The man still didn’t speak.

Since she couldn’t see his hurt expression, Claire hardened her heart and continued without hesitation. "By the way, there’s something I need to tell you. I was going to mention it last time, but your sister hung up too quickly, so I never got the chance."

"What is it?" Adrian Quincy finally spoke.

Claire spoke as if she were telling someone else’s story, her tone completely flat. "A while back, I went to the hospital to visit your grandfather, but I never ended up seeing him. Your sister blocked me at his door and assaulted me. I was hospitalized, had to take many days of sick leave, and lost a lot of weight."

"I don’t think your family will ever accept me in this lifetime, and I can’t accept them either. Even if we force ourselves to be together, there will be no happiness to speak of in the future. It’s better for both of us to divorce sooner rather than later. Don’t you think?"

There was no reaction at all from the other end of the line.

Claire Sinclair waited for a long time, maybe a full minute, but she heard no reply. And he didn’t hang up, either.

After waiting a bit longer, her patience wore thin. "If there’s nothing else," she said, "I’m hanging up."

With that, she moved to hang up the phone.

The man suddenly spoke. "Even if I can’t give you happiness, I will at least give you a proper resolution. I will get to the bottom of Yara’s violent actions against you. I’m sorry."

CLICK...

The line went dead.

Claire Sinclair remained in the same position, holding the phone, as a dull ache spread through her heart.

’When he comes back, it will be time for them to divorce.’

’There won’t be any more surprises this time, right?’

’Ultimately, we still have to go our separate ways. It’s okay. I can live perfectly well on my own.’

Claire Sinclair tried to numb herself, but she couldn’t suppress the ache in her heart.

All of a sudden, she felt several pairs of strange eyes staring at her.
