Chapter 1: Dumped

"Hahaha, I came here the moment I heard there’s a good show going on, but I never expected something like this~"

"I told you, right? It’s finally time for that bastard to get knocked off his high horse."

"Kaahh, so good!! Well, it would have been better if Miss Alicia herself had confronted that guy."

"Well, I guess it’s pointless, after that kind of performance, she quickly became the star of the school after all, what’s the use of wasting her time dealing with this guy?"

Standing in an open area near the entrance of an academic institution, students gather around, talking among themselves with quite the glee in their voice as they watch a "good show" happening in front of them, surrounded by these students, are two of their fellows, one of them being a man, still stupefied about what is happening right now, sporting a confused look on his face as he stares in front of him.

The other student, being a lady, smiles mockingly as she stares at the young man in front of her, feeling extremely satisfied as she stares at the baffled look on his face, as if she truly enjoys getting this kind of expression from people like this young man.

"Get it, boy? Not to mention Alicia, I don’t even have the time to deal with you, but because she’s my friend, here I am, tying up loose ends for her. We don’t want you claiming to still be her boyfriend and ruining her image now, don’t we?"

As the mocking tone in the young lady’s voice continues to resound all across the area, the young man merely stares at her with listless eyes, making her believe that he has truly gone insane from the news he just received.

"What? Cat got your tongue? Does your small head understand what I am saying?" the lady asked once again as she walked forward, each step resounding sharply as she closed the gap between herself and the young man she’s mocking, pointing her fingers towards him with the smile on her face getting wider as she continued.

And almost as if to respond to someone else moving closer towards her, she felt something odd coming from the young man, a sharp shiver suddenly running down her spine, making her jolt her fingers back, before she managed to regain her calm as she recalls what sort of rating this young man was given during their previous assessments.

A failure, no, even being treated as a failure would be unfair to the ones rated as failures, as their professors had said. After all, even those who are deemed as failures are still capable of utilizing mana better than normal people who are unable to sense its presence,

As for the young man she’s mocking, all there is to it for him is the ability to sense this mystical energy, along with the fact that it is circulating within his body, without the ability to exert its prowess nor the ability to control it for himself, as if he’s nothing but a mere storage of mana that he can never, that he will never use.

"Ah, yes, yes, I get it." Still, there’s this sharpness to him that one couldn’t help but be wary of, something that terrifies even the one supposed to be mocking him to the ground, to the point that she flinched, hesitating about her actions moments before he replied.

"I-It’s good that you get it, it’s better for the two of you, actually" hearing the reply from the young man, the lady then pulls herself back, still wondering why is it that she felt like that a moment before despite the difference in level between the two of them, her unconscious hurrying her body as if it wants to get out of the place as soon as she can.

"Huh... that’s it."

"I feel like it’s lacking something..."

"Well, it’s good enough of a show, I guess..."

"Hahaha, look at him, he’s still staring at the air like some retard..."

"Well, maybe he got retarded by the news, hahaha."

With the commotion they went here for now ending, the crowd starts dispersing with the occasional voice of said crowd still mocking the young man who remains standing rooted on his spot, unmoving, back when he was being mocked, not even by the person who he spent all his efforts on for this past couple of years, but by said person’s friend, as if telling him that he’s not even worth the effort for her to deal with.

Still, unbeknownst to anyone but himself, it’s not the sudden and brutal cutting off, nor the mocking that practically made him a joke all across the academy, that is the reason for him staring blankly in the air for a long while now, but instead, it is because of the thing floating in front of him something that he had already confirmed as something that only he can see.

’Just what the hell is this?’ extending his hand towards the projection in front of him, the young man’s body merely went through the vision in front of him, making him think that he must just be seeing things, if not for the words written on the projection.

Words that are completely familiar to the young man, yet the combination in which they present themselves confuses him to no end at all, almost as if it is presented in a completely different language that is of total unfamiliarity to him.

"Evolution Domain?" as he continues to read the display in front of him time and time again, the young man, Novus, keeps getting his attention pulled towards these couple of words time and time again, his curiosity making him wonder about it more and more to the point that he couldn’t help but mutter said words out loud.

And to his surprise, the display in front of him starts to change, the words previously showing what he assumes to be a base assessment of himself now showing information about the thing he is completely curious about.

[Evolution Domain]

[The primary means for the system user to improve themselves. Pulls the physical body into an independent realm filled with all sorts of beings for the system user to hunt. The materials gathered from slain beasts can then be used to improve the user’s current strength.

It is possible to die within the Evolution Domain. At death, the user will be transferred back to their world and will have restricted access from the Evolution Domain. The duration of the restriction is completely dependent on the severity of death that the system user experienced.]

[Notes: As the system user continues to improve themselves and conquer parts of the Evolution Domain, other features of the domain will unlock.]

[Do you want to enter the Evolution Domain?]

[Yes/No]

’I won’t really die there, so there’s nothing for me to lose, right?’

Seeing the prompt in front of him, Novus doesn’t even hesitate the slightest; the things that happened previously are no longer in his mind as his interest towards this event that only he seems to experience grows larger by each passing moment.
