Chapter 11: Life Is Good

People of the world come from all walks of life, meaning they possess different views of the same world that everyone is living in; each thought towards each individual thing is a unique one that offers someone else a fresh and new perspective they can add to their own.

Yet despite that, should one person be asked regarding what could be the greatest opportunity a young person can encounter, there is a single answer that unifies everyone, man or woman, young or old, good or bad, alike.

The Galilea Magic Academy. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

A behemoth of an institution standing independent from any nation or empire, nurturing students from all over the world without discrimination towards their identity outside, a place where the only thing that grants one respect and preferential treatment is their very own strength.

This institution, a great island floating above the skies through ancient magic known only to select few during this current era, is a city of its own, with the main academy grounds being the center of this floating island, and a main road extending from all four cardinal directions, having practically anything that a student can ask for.

Entertainment, training grounds, commerce districts, and interesting oddities that one might take an interest in, all workers operating these places are a force directly under the academy’s command.

Given the self-sustaining nature of this magic academy, at any given school year, it holds a population of students numbering in the tens of thousands at the very least, and living along these mage-prospects in this mystical place are the staff required for the entirety of the academy-city to work.

In the main academy grounds, rumors surrounding the latest hot topic circulating all around start to spread, one of the academy’s rising stars among the freshmen, leaving her lover, the very same person who is the center of the rumor starting to spread now.

Madman, the one who lost it all, a toad lusting after a swan. All sorts of mocking words are directed towards the subject of ridicule, each second, yet another student comes up with yet another way to demean said person, almost as if they couldn’t make fun of him enough.

"Life is good" meanwhile, the subject of ridicule, the one who was the center of attention, not in a good way, the day before, Novus, continues to just ignore the whispers and gazes around him, his senses, enhanced from both the awakening of his talent and his increase in stats, allowing him to clearly hear what each of them are saying, yet instead of being offended, he just takes them as he goes.

The reason for such a good mood?

Was it the great leaps and bounds of progress that he made during the small amount of time that he started utilizing the system and the Evolution Domain?

That is a part of it, but the biggest reason for his current mood is the method he discovered in order to keep improving himself during times like these; his time in classes couldn’t be any better, as he realized one thing.

’Items taken out of the Storage Space can manifest anywhere near me.’

To understand as to why it all matters, we have to go back to a few hours ago, just right after Novus’ classes started, forcing him to sit down for several hours-long lectures about theories regarding magic that he had learned ages ago.

’Damn... this is as boring as it can get... It’s not that Sir Heinel is a bad teacher, but the topic is just that bad...’ he thought to himself as he played around, even guessing where the lessons would go and getting it right most of the time, making him lose interest in the topic all the more.

"Novus, I know you’re great with the theories, but you still need to listen to the professor. If you can’t save some dignity for yourself, save some for the rest of us, will you?"

Out of the blue, he was interrupted as he heard a loud, clearly mocking voice a few seats in front of him, prompting a faint smile on his face as he proceeded to ignore the jab.

Seeing how he is being ignored, the young man who pointed a finger at the target of everyone’s ridicule gnashed his teeth, clenching his fist as he refused to take such "humiliation" without fighting back, hence the decision to follow up with another line that he thought would hurt his target more than before.

"Damn, you’re really out of yourself, aren’t you? Is that the result of what happened yesterday? If you’re that useless after such a minor setback, what even is the use of being a mage?"

The young man continues, thinking to himself that it is such a good thing to point out, believing that he scores two birds with one stone, pulling attention to himself a bit more for ’teaching a fellow student to behave properly,’ all while scoring points on the professor’s good book as well.

The room was silent, even the professor stopped his lecture, not because he was being lenient, no, instead, he was quite interested in where this exchange of taunts would go.

There’s not a single word uttered from the target’s mouth, only that faint smile that seems to provoke the instigator of the event even more, prompting him to open his mouth once again in another attempt to provoke what he thought was an easy target.

"Too afraid to speak? Heh, coward, I guess that’s even more reason as to why Miss Alicia lef—" speaking with the same aggressive intonation, the student continues, the words coming out of his mouth something that most, if not all of the remaining students witnessing this show agrees with, some of them looking even more spiteful towards Novus now as other than the mediocrity that they believe he is stuck with, they also branded him coward as well.

"Are you done, student Hellas?" Before the student could even continue, though, the professor, who thought of letting things just flow, now decided to intervene, his eyes seeing through what his students failed to see.

The student, Hellas’ target, Novus, isn’t scared of confrontation, not a single bit.

’It’s like he’s just too lazy to deal with it...’ The professor pauses as he glances towards Novus once again, seeing a gaze that holds both sharpness and brightness to it, a quality that he couldn’t help but admire.

’...like looking at an ant crawling under his feet.’ Such is the assumption he made the moment he saw how Novus gazed towards his fellow mage-aspirant, the bearing of the two seemingly on a completely different level, like a foolish emperor declaring a war against the ocean itself, a pointless endeavor that can only result in the destruction of the former.

"Well, Sir Heinel, I don’t think my fellow student is done yet. Why don’t we hear what he’s going to say? It’s a good change of pace, listening to monkeys speak is completely unheard of after all." out of everyone’s expectation, who they thought was an easy prey, retaliated in what they can only think of as a brutal manner, shock in their faces as they heard his words, the mocking tone in his voice something that made them wonder who really is the prey here.
