I Pick up a Lost Godhood
Chapter 279 - 270: A Date with a Beauty
Something miraculous happened. His Divine Sense actually merged into it. The Pill Furnace erupted in a brilliant golden light, and the furnace fire spun out of control, burning wildly until the entire vessel glowed fiery red.
Wang Meng was stunned. After a moment, the lid of the Pill Furnace slowly rose. A flash of golden light shot out, followed by a refreshing, heart-soothing aroma.
’This aroma...’ Wang Meng leaned his head in for a look. Lying inside the Pill Furnace was a single, pale golden Pill.
Wang Meng picked up the Pill. The moment he touched it, he felt a jolt, like an electric shock. ’Is this an Emergency Pill?’
Wang Meng glanced at the sky, then placed the strange Emergency Pill into his Qiankun Bag.
...Outside, Fan Hong’s snores were loud enough to shake the heavens. He was sleeping soundly indeed.
"Ah, Wang Meng, what time is it? Is it morning already?"
"Weren’t you studying Magic? How did you fall asleep?"
Fan Hong wiped the drool from his mouth. "I’m not sure. I was studying, then I got hungry. And when I’m hungry, I get sleepy. Haha."
Sheesh.
"How about you?"
"It was alright. I think I’m getting the hang of it. Let’s go."
The two of them closed the door and left.
At that moment, a crack appeared on the Pill Furnace in Wang Meng’s Alchemy Room. A second later, it crumbled into pieces.
Back in his own room, Wang Meng lay on his bed, fiddling with his new Pill. He really didn’t dare to just eat it. It would be terrible if he turned into some kind of monster. He had a family to think about; he couldn’t afford to be reckless.
But this Pill definitely felt different. Wang Meng’s intuition told him this particular Emergency Pill would have a miraculous effect. ’After all, I merged a sliver of my Divine Sense into it. There’s no way it could have turned into poison, right?’
Still, the only way to know a Pill’s true effect was to use it. Zhou Feng wasn’t around, so there was nothing he could do. He had to let it go for now.
Mi Dao arrived at his domain bright and early. The two kids he’d recently hired were pretty good. Their strength was garbage, but who needed strength to sweep the Alchemy Rooms? The key was that they were diligent and knew how to handle things. He hadn’t expected that Fan Hong kid to be a young master from the Dharma Flower Sect—he’d nearly misjudged him. Plus, the boy was generous, which Mi Dao greatly appreciated.
As the Dean, Mi Dao had no intention of being this diligent. It was just that a very important person was visiting this morning. The fact that this person would deign to use his facility was a huge honor.
Mi Dao waited respectfully.
"Dean Mi Dao."
"You’ve arrived! Please, come in, come in. I’ve already made arrangements; today’s institute meeting has been delayed by one ancient hour."
Mi Dao didn’t dare raise his head. He knew exactly how terrifying this gentle-looking woman was—a being who could reduce him to dust with a flick of her finger. Her name was not something just anyone could utter.
Mi Dao was a veteran of the Cultivation Academy; he knew the rules well.
The woman nodded. Mi Dao followed behind her as carefully as an attendant, not feeling the least bit ashamed. In fact, he felt a little honored.
As soon as the door opened, a very, very faint fragrance wafted out. As Mi Dao’s gaze followed the direction of the scent, his face instantly turned pale, and sweat began to pour down his brow.
’I could just strangle those two kids, Wang Meng and Fan Hong!’ he thought, seething. ’What did I tell them yesterday? I reminded them a thousand times to get everything neat and clean! Those two are usually so serious, what happened?’
Not far off, one of the alchemy stations was scorched black. It was obviously a case of an exploded furnace, and the mess hadn’t even been cleaned up.
Fan Hong had planned to come clean it up in the morning, but... he’d forgotten.
The woman took a light breath and walked forward. Mi Dao’s calves began to tremble. Of course, a person of her stature wouldn’t stoop to dealing with him personally, but if she were the least bit displeased, her subordinates would skin him alive.
’Oh, gods, I’m a devout man!’ he prayed. ’When did I offend you? You don’t have to send two kids to bring me down like this, do you? I only accepted a little bit of money! If you let me survive this ordeal, I swear I’ll give it back to them!’
"Ahem, this was a mistake. The Stewards must have been slacking off. I will discipline them harshly. Perhaps you would..."
The woman gave Mi Dao a bland look, and he instantly fell silent. He had wanted to explain, but that single glance left him unable to utter another word.
Following the scent, the woman arrived at the Alchemy Room Wang Meng had used. The moment the door opened, Mi Dao’s heart went cold. The floor was covered in shards. He didn’t know why it was this specific room. Perhaps it was the one she had used last, but...
Seeing the questioning look in the woman’s eyes, Mi Dao’s legs went weak, and he immediately dropped to his knees. "I truly don’t know! It really wasn’t me! Please, give me one day, and I swear I will get to the bottom of this! If..."
The woman ignored Mi Dao. She walked inside and picked up a shard, her jade-like, translucent fingers brushing lightly over its surface.
"Find this person. Do not let a third person know."
"Yes, yes! Rest assured, I will definitely find him and..." ’The gods have shown mercy!’ As long as she was giving him a chance, Mi Dao would make sure to skin that fellow alive.
"You don’t seem to understand my meaning. You. Find him."
The woman said coolly. Hearing this, Mi Dao nodded frantically. His attempt to curry favor had backfired completely.
When he looked up again, the woman was gone. Mi Dao wiped the sweat from his forehead, his entire body already soaked through. ’Damn it!’ Looking at the shards on the floor, he felt as if his limbs no longer belonged to him. ’The legendary "Ten Thousand People Slayer"...’
’Just which bastard caused me all this trouble?!’
He had been so stupid. ’With her status, how could it possibly be my place to take action?’ he thought. ’Whoever that unlucky bastard is, he’d be better off just killing himself now. It would be a cleaner death.’
Wang Meng and Fan Hong showed up at the Alchemy Institute as usual. Mi Dao’s expression was incredibly grim. "You two, come clean with me. What happened yesterday?"
Fan Hong’s face fell. Only now did he remember that he’d blown up the furnace twice yesterday. The place must have been a total mess.
"Dean, it’s my fault. I’m so sorry. I was using the Pill Furnace last night, but..." As he spoke, he shoved a small bag of Spirit Stones into Mi Dao’s hand.
Mi Dao looked at the size of the bag. He knew Fan Hong was generous, but this was practically blood money. He couldn’t take it.
He sighed internally. ’Now that I’ve found the person, it’s no longer my business.’ He suddenly felt that Fan Hong was a bit pitiful. It wasn’t easy for him.
"Forget it, forget it. I already had someone clean it up," Mi Dao said. "You two just be more careful from now on. If you cause me any more trouble, we’ll see how I deal with you then."
Mi Dao didn’t want to get any more involved. It was obvious from her attitude that the ’esteemed one’ hated it when people acted on their own initiative. He had found the culprit, so at this point, his merits and demerits should cancel each other out.
Looking at Fan Hong, Mi Dao couldn’t help but shake his head again. He patted Fan Hong on the shoulder. "You two don’t have to work today. Go on back. Eat something good, drink something nice."
Mi Dao’s strange behavior left Wang Meng and Fan Hong completely baffled.
"What was that all about? Did he think the bribe was too small?" Fan Hong scratched his head. "We didn’t even do anything that bad yesterday, did we?"
Wang Meng was also bewildered. He had just refined a Pill and had cleaned up his station before he left. Fan Hong’s area was just a bit messy; it wasn’t a huge deal.
Neither of them gave it much thought, just chalking it up to Mi Dao being neurotic. Since they didn’t have to work, it was all the better for them.
Just then, Wang Meng’s Star Ring flashed. He tapped out a small Array Technique, and a projection of Yan Yuyue appeared.
"Wang Meng. This afternoon, at the entrance to the Hundred Battles Pavilion."
Fan Hong’s eyes lit up. "So beautiful! Could that be the legendary Yan Yuyue?" 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
"I don’t know if she’s the one from the legends, but she is indeed Yan Yuyue."
Fan Hong clapped Wang Meng on the back. "Buddy, that beauty is incredible. And she’s from the same Small Thousand Realm as you! In times like these, a close neighbor is better than a distant relative. Now that you’re in the Great Yuan Realm, you two are practically fellow countrymen. You should get to know each other better!"
"What the hell? I thought you said the righteous and the Evil couldn’t stand each other!"(To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to come to Qidian (qidian.com) to vote with recommendations and monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
