Chapter 174: Chapter 174: The Dive

Dawn did not arrive with a gentle sunrise. It arrived with the deafening, bone-rattling roar of the Aether-Nova Engine powering up.

Lucifer stood on the high balcony of the central keep. He wore his dark leather armor, the heavy iron gauntlets locked tightly into place.

The ruby-red Blade of Ruin pulsed on his hip, completely synchronized with the steady, calm heartbeat inside his chest.

Beside him stood Elara. The Twilight Sovereign had re-equipped her Mythic Void-Weave armor. The dark, iridescent scales shifted seamlessly over her skin.

She looked completely refreshed, the exhaustion of the previous days entirely erased. Her golden eyes burned with absolute, predatory focus.

They looked out over the Silver Citadel.

The celestial dimension was quiet. The surviving angels were huddled in the lower sectors, completely terrified of the massive black mountain hovering above their golden highways.

"The army is secured," Elara reported smoothly. She gripped her violet-flaming spear. "The thirteen million mortals are strapped into the reinforced lower barracks.

Isolde has recalled the Wyrms into the inner courtyards. Nobody is standing on the open battlements."

"Good," Lucifer stated. "Because the wind outside the shield is about to strip the flesh off anyone standing in it."

He tapped his comms rune, connecting to the Spire of Celestial Convergence.

"Sarah. Navigation status," Lucifer commanded.

"I have the trajectory, Lucifer," the Star-Touched Oracle replied. Her voice was perfectly steady, echoing through the link.

"The Aether-Nova Engine is synced with the planetary leylines. I am aiming directly for the Mariana Fissure on the eastern continent."

Lucifer didn’t hesitate. The time for preparation was over.

"Drop us," Lucifer ordered.

Zephyria did not slowly descend. It fell out of Heaven like a thrown boulder.

The massive floating city detached from the ambient magic of the Silver Citadel. The Aether-Nova Engine fired in reverse, aggressively shoving the five-mile-wide mountain downward.

They tore back through the shattered, sparkling ruins of the Pearl Gates, leaving the golden sky of the gods behind forever.

The transition was violent.

The sky outside the pitch-black Void-shield instantly shifted from brilliant gold to the terrifying, breathless vacuum of space, and then immediately plunged into the thick, toxic gray ash of the mortal stratosphere.

[System Warning: Extreme Vertical Acceleration.]

[Altitude: 60,000 Feet and dropping rapidly.]

[Status: Freefall.]

Lucifer planted his iron boots on the obsidian balcony. His Archmage core effortlessly neutralized the massive G-force of the terminal velocity drop, allowing him to stand perfectly still as the world rushed up to meet him.

The ash storm outside was blinding. The gray soot whipped against the aerodynamic, spear-shaped Void-shield with the force of a hurricane.

The friction generated a massive, roaring wall of white-hot static electricity that danced across the barrier.

"Breaking the cloud cover!" Sarah yelled over the comms.

The thick gray clouds parted violently.

The surface of the earth came into view. It was a horrifying, apocalyptic landscape. The oceans were completely evaporated.

The continents were cracked, covered in rolling oceans of gray ash and smoking black bedrock.

But slicing straight through the center of the eastern landmass was the target.

The Mariana Fissure.

It was a jagged, continent-sized canyon that glowed with a sickening, vibrant purple light. It was not a normal tectonic fault line.

It was a massive, open wound leading directly down into the planet’s mantle. Rivers of highly corrosive, Abyssal-corrupted magma bubbled and spat at the bottom of the gorge.

Zephyria was plummeting straight toward it.

"We are coming in hot," Elara noted. She didn’t blink as the molten surface of the earth rushed up at terrifying speeds. "The fissure looks extremely narrow for a five-mile-wide city."

"It will fit," Lucifer said coldly. "The adamantine hull will shave off the edges."

[System Alert: Impact with Planetary Crust Imminent.]

[Time to Breach: 5 Seconds... 4... 3...]

Lucifer didn’t brace himself. He watched the molten purple rock explode upward in his vision.

Zephyria hit the earth.

CRAAAACK.

The sound was apocalyptic. The pitch-black Void-shield, reinforced by the gleaming Celestial Adamantine underbelly, slammed directly into the mouth of the Mariana Fissure.

The floating city didn’t stop. It punched straight through the crust.

Millions of tons of solid bedrock and cooling slag were violently obliterated, exploding outward in a massive, continuous shower of shattered stone. Zephyria acted like a colossal, rocket-propelled drill, forcing its way down the throat of the volcano.

The sky vanished entirely.

The gray ash and dark clouds were instantly replaced by towering, vertical walls of melting rock and churning rivers of sickly purple fire.

Zephyria was in freefall through the earth’s mantle.

The visual outside the balcony was staggering. Massive, subterranean waterfalls of superheated liquid rock splashed against the Void-shield, exploding into blinding showers of orange and purple sparks.

The speed of the descent blurred the molten walls into continuous streaks of neon light.

And the heat spiked.

It didn’t just get warm. The ambient temperature outside the shield skyrocketed past the boundaries of standard physics.

[System Warning: Lethal Environment Entered.]

[Location: The Deep Mantle.]

[Temperature: 25,000 Degrees and climbing.]

[Warning: Thermal Overload on External Plating.]

Inside the central keep, the air grew instantly stifling. Lucifer felt a bead of sweat roll down his neck. The heavy stone floor beneath his boots radiated a dull, aggressive warmth.

Down in the subterranean Aether-Forge, it was absolute chaos.

"I am sweating off three centuries of skincare!" Vexia shrieked.

The Sanguine Princess was hovering frantically over the master control console. Her crimson silk dress was soaked with sweat.

Her pale skin was flushed bright red from the ambient heat. She waved her arms, desperately forcing rivers of raw blood magic through the glowing crimson veins of the Sanguine Grid.

"The adamantine hull is glowing white-hot!" Vexia yelled, her fangs bared as she fought the thermal feedback.

"The shield is holding the lava back, but the ambient heat is bypassing the barrier! The lower barracks are turning into an oven! If I push any more blood through these conduits, it’s going to boil into steam and rupture the pipes!"

"Then compress the flow, you oversized bat!" King Thrain roared back.

The Dwarf King was completely shirtless, his thick, muscular torso covered in soot, sweat, and minor blistering burns.

He stood directly beneath the massive, roaring Void-Core Reactor. He swung a heavy Star-Metal wrench, aggressively tightening a massive coolant valve that was hissing violently.

"Do not lecture me on fluid dynamics, you stunted mole!" Vexia screamed, twisting her hands to route another surge of blood magic into the lower hull. "Your archaic plumbing wasn’t built to surf a river of lava!"

"It’s built to survive!" Thrain bellowed, slamming his wrench against a sparking conduit. "Just keep the grid saturated! If the Adamantine melts, we all turn to soup!"

Up on the balcony, Lucifer listened to the frantic, colorful exchange over the open comms rune.

He didn’t silence them. If they were yelling at each other, they were working.

"The plating is holding," Lucifer observed calmly, looking down over the edge of the balcony.

He could see the absolute bottom of Zephyria. The massive, seamless sheet of silver Celestial Adamantine they had harvested from Heaven was performing flawlessly.

It glowed a brilliant, blinding white under the intense heat of the magma, but it did not warp. It effortlessly absorbed the friction of diving through the mantle at supersonic speeds.

"The descent rate is steady," Elara reported, stepping closer to Lucifer. She ignored the stifling heat radiating through her dark armor. "Sarah is charting the path through the magma tubes.

The World-Eater’s corruption has hollowed out the center of the planet. We just have to survive the drop to reach the core."

"We will survive it," Lucifer stated.

The visual spectacle of the descent was terrifyingly beautiful. Rivers of molten rock, infused with the sickly purple rot of the Abyss, rushed past the pitch-black shield.

The city was a dark, impenetrable bubble sinking through an ocean of fire.

[Hull Integrity: 99%.]

"We are passing the outer mantle," Sarah’s voice crackled through the comms. The Oracle sounded breathless, overwhelmed by the sheer scale of the planetary structure rushing past her cosmic sight.

"The magma rivers are widening. The structural density of the rock is decreasing rapidly."

Lucifer leaned against the hot stone railing.

He knew what was coming. The crust and the mantle were just the physical barriers. The true nightmare lay at the absolute center of the earth.

The hollowed-out, biological nursery where the cosmic horror had been incubating since the dawn of time.

"Maintain speed, Vexia," Lucifer ordered smoothly. "Do not engage the braking thrusters until we clear the magma falls. I want to punch through the roof of the core with maximum kinetic force."

"I am pumping the coolant as fast as I can, Emperor!" Vexia yelled, the sound of grinding gears and hissing steam echoing loudly behind her voice. "But if we go any faster, I am going to spontaneously combust!"

"You’re a vampire," Lucifer replied dryly. "You don’t combust unless I open the blinds."

Vexia let out a highly un-aristocratic squawk of frustration over the link, but the Sanguine Grid pulsed with a fresh, aggressive surge of red light.

The cooling system stabilized, pushing the blistering heat back just enough to keep the interior of the city from catching fire.

Zephyria plunged deeper.

The walls of the Mariana Fissure began to pull away. The tight, claustrophobic tunnel of liquid rock opened up. The blinding, aggressive reds and purples of the magma thinned out, giving way to an impossibly vast, dark, echoing expanse.

The heat suddenly, violently vanished.

The temperature outside the Void-shield plummeted from fifteen thousand degrees to a terrifying, unnatural, stagnant chill.

Lucifer’s void-swirling eyes narrowed.

They had broken through the bottom of the mantle. They were no longer falling through rock. They were falling through empty space.

"We are through," Lucifer announced, his voice dropping into a low, lethal cadence.

He drew the Blade of Ruin. The ruby-red sword flared brightly, illuminating the dark balcony.

Zephyria drifted out of the magma falls and entered the Hollow Core. The final battlefield awaited.
