I Reincarnated as The Protagonist's Best Friend
Chapter 71
Quash and Gabriella started walking towards the exit. Quash was all smiles when he passed by Eleanor and Alicia. Both of them looked pretty shocked.
And Eleanor looked excited as well. Probably wondering what would have happened in the brief time Quash and Gabriella were gone. Ready to hear the gossip.
"Wanna tag along?"
Quash asked the duo. He and Gabriella stopped. Gabriella examined the two, her expression unreadable.
Eleanor looked towards her brother who was hyperventilating while clutching his chest. Although she wanted to go, she still had to take care of her brother.
That’s the least she could do. So she refused for now. There will be plenty of opportunities in the future. Alicia naturally refused as well.
And with that, the newly half-wed couple started walking again.
"Gabby! Cast invisibility on us!"
He said with a smug smile. Gabriella looked at the person she acknowledged as her husband and once again was reminded that he wasn’t normal.
"I feel like you’re treating me like a summoned beast."
"You must be imagining things. I just don’t want to deal with people outside."
At Gabriella’s complaint, Quash turned to her and replied while still walking. Gabriella waved her hand without changing her expression. But she wanted to scoff. Was he trying to fool her? Seemed like it.
It looks like this husband of hers still underestimated her to a great deal. She needs to "fix" him at a later date. Since they just got married, or half married, she will let him boss her around a bit.
And a small smile involuntarily appeared on her face when she thought about it. She wondered how he would react then?
What interesting way would he come up with to counter her when she makes a move?
But that was for later. Right now, they need to get out of here.
She had cast an illusion spell to move the annoying people out of the way. And when they were near the exit she cast an invisibility spell.
It was a basic spell and highly impractical because just becoming invisible doesn’t mean one’s presence has disappeared as well.
This only works on normal people. And most people outside were normal people.
So Quash and Gabriella were able to get out of the Hunig Hall area without much problem.
Quash knew that his relationship with the Vampire Princess will spread fast through the students, to the paparazzi, and to the rest of the world. But that didn’t really matter because the Academy City will be closed tomorrow. And they will only be going out after 4 years. People would probably forget about this matter in the meantime.
Quash and Gabriella walked with their hands intertwined. It felt natural to them because of their invisible bond. They walked comfortably on the seemingly empty street.
"Should I escort you to the Inn you’re staying at or do you wish to stay in mine?"
Gabriella suddenly spoke. Her voice flat but beautiful. Quash turned to look at her side profile. Then turned to look ahead.
"Let’s go to your Inn. I will drop you off. Then come back."
"You’re not going to stay?"
Gabriella asked with her eyebrow raised a bit. Looking surprised. She was practically inviting him to have sexual intercourse with her. She had thought he would jump on that offer from what she had observed of him.
"Not yet."
Quash said with a mysterious smile, making Gabriella frown a bit. She wondered what was going through that head of his. Her interest was piqued very much. She couldn’t even read his mind because he held the dominant position in their relationship. Even though normally, the bond allows such a thing.
Well, according to what she had heard that is. Her parents can read each other’s minds but they don’t because they trust each other.
But regardless, she was left a bit dissatisfied inside.
But she still led him towards her Inn. Silence returned between them. They walked comfortably.
The destination was the east side of the Plaza. The most luxurious place. That is where Gabriella lived temporarily.
"What is your plan for the future?"
Gabriella asked Quash, breaking the silence once again. She wanted to get a clear idea of what path he wanted to walk so she could help accordingly.
"First, I need to get High Grade Spirit Water that is at the very least near Legendary Grade. If not, the Magi Paint will turn out bad."
At Quash’s answer, she suddenly remembered he wanted to become a MagiCrafter.
"Why do you want to become a MagiCrafter?"
"Because I want to?"
"...Okay. But why leave Knight Path? You’re a very skilled fighter. If Class Limit is a problem, I can give you a Limit Breaker item of the highest grade."
"No need."
"Why? Isn’t that why you agreed so easily?"
At Gabriella’s question, Quash paused, Gabriella stopped as well. He felt there was a massive misunderstanding here. And he needed to clear it before it got big and affected their future relationship. No matter how hasty his decision must have been, since he accepted her as his wife, he will take full responsibility.
Then Quash briefly scanned his memory. On what possibly could have given off that impression that he was after her money just for the sake of it.
And he reached a conclusion.
"You read my mind when we first locked eyes?"
"No. I can’t read minds. But I can tell. You view me more as an asset than a person."
Quash stared at her with a neutral expression before his expression morphed into a teasing one.
"Oh my, oh my. Looks like my wifey is jealous huh? Let hubby give you a hug!"
Then Quash gave Gabriella a bear hug. She looked uncomfortable because she wanted to deny his claim but now that he pointed it out, she did feel a bit bad.
But once again, her understanding of Quash seemed to be lacking and he seemed to be operating on a level she was not familiar with.
Quash put her down while chuckling and shaking his head.
"Listen Gabby, it is true that I, as of now view you as an asset, because you are mine now. So that’s right in a sense. But the understanding you have is of the moment where I wanted to use your influence and make you my sponsor for my workshop. That is all. I had a business proposal for you. I don’t view you as a tradable asset. But an asset that is the most valuable. And! Gabby. Lest you drift into some melodrama once again, remember this, before, I had no one to call a family. But now I have you. I may not be to your liking or ideal husband. But let’s embrace each other’s flaws and make them our strengths. Alright?"
Quash said sincerely while looking into Gabriella’s eyes. She was staring at him with wide eyes. Still processing his words.
Quash pulled on her arm and they started walking again. They arrived in front of Gabriella’s residence which was a massive mansion. He escorted her to her main gate, hugged her one last time before he said goodbye and walked away.
Leaving Gabriella who was silently waving at him. She couldn’t understand if his words were a trick to make her think otherwise, but it was working. She went inside absentmindedly. Many maids greeted her and she went to take a bath.
