Chapter 35: A Suicidal Captain, A Suicidal Crew

Roseus’s plan consisted of two different parts, both of which he explained in detail to the crew as they sat on the deck of their docked ship.

The first part was to be played by himself, utilising the various skills he had gained over their short journey.

Previously, he had come up with a plan to become stronger at an incredibly fast rate.

First, he would tie his father’s hat to his head and submerge himself into the small lake outside of Blodwen’s hut that was connected to the ocean. From there, he would activate Hunting Diver, which would make monsters of the ocean have a higher chance of carrying low-ranked treasure when attacking him.

The hat would attract the attention of the dangerous seas, and due to Hunting Diver, those that attacked him might carry treasure. From there, he and the others would lead the creatures out of the water and dispose of them.

The dropped treasures would first be equipped by Roseus to see which positive effects would be of use to him if necessary.

The others who helped fight the beasts would also become stronger. Roseus also hoped that Lavender could awaken, so that they would have access to ship modifications.

All treasure collected would, of course, not be able to be shared with the others.

This led to Roseus’s second part of the plan, which was the most dangerous part, and the area where he expected to hear pushback.

Blodwen had explained that the reason he was allowed to remain on the island without facing trouble from the navy was because of its strange location and the lack of a presence on the island. He had long since gotten rid of his ship and even owned a few skills that could mask his presence.

He mentioned that there were a few times that ships had visited the island. Low-ranking pirates were either scared off or killed by the green-haired primitive, whilst the navy would arrive only to find the place empty, as he temporarily abandoned his hut.

There was almost nothing on the island that made the journey worth it for them, which was why he had selected the place to stay at in the first place.

Now, however, the navy would soon arrive on the shores, as they had seen that a pirate ship was docked there.

This was what Roseus wanted.

To lead the navy to the shores, and bombard them there.

When he was asked how he planned on destroying such ships, he had a simple, crazy answer.

He would break his pact with Nammon, and bring the god’s wrath onto the sea.

Blodwen had specifically mentioned that when humans broke pacts with gods, the sea around them was affected in such a drastic way. This was to not only punish the one who had created the pact, but also those around him.

Therefore, Roseus suspected that by breaking his pact with Nammon, the danger that arrived would not only affect him, but also the navy.

If he was lucky, they could distract the navy and escape into the Maze Sea, drawing the pursuers deep into the dangerous waters if they wished to continue following.

If they were even luckier, they could use the distraction to pick off the navy, removing them from their tails.

However, it was very clear that this plan had risks and holes.

"It’s crazy. No, you’re crazy," Dawn said honestly, shaking her head.

Kruger nodded in agreement. "She’s right. What’s stopping us from being killed by the sea god’s curse as well?"

It was a valid concern. Roseus knew this.

He also didn’t expect the others to willingly walk themselves into such a situation.

So, he remained calm and presented his final proposition to them.

"I understand the dangers of this situation, and these dangers have been brought to you all because you decided to sail with me. I won’t force you to face them. Those who want to leave can take our ship now and go. I will create a distraction so that the navy doesn’t pursue you. I’m willing to do this as captain of the Redflower Pirates. I have already made mistakes on this journey, and... it’s like danger follows me wherever I go. However, to those who decide to stay with me... I promise that I have no intentions of dying, or letting anybody else die. Whether my father’s prophecy was about me or not, this won’t be the end of my journey as a pirate."

The words hung in the air as all of the pirates regarded their captain carefully. Different expressions ran across each of their faces.

Roseus shot Blodwen a glance to see what the man thought of the situation. He seemed indifferent, with both of his scarred arms crossed and a straight look on his face. He had already long since decided that he would follow Roseus on this path, and regardless of what would happen, he felt confident in his ability to keep himself safe.

Besides, he was also curious as to what the wrath of a god would look like. Perhaps this was because he envied the pirates who were granted the opportunity to sail deeper into the oceans, facing the dangers of the seas, whilst he was forced to hide on safe land.

After a short amount of time, Roseus received his answer from his crew.

They had all considered the alternative. They all knew of the dangers that the ocean would present to them when they planned on setting sail.

Dawn knew that her mother, Stellar, had likely faced much greater troubles out in the deeper oceans, and wished to follow in her footsteps.

Kruger, as an ex-navy sailor, had his own grudges with the navy. He wished to see his pursuers punished, and hoped that those he held personal grudges against might be on one of those ships.

Petyr, who had dreams of becoming the greatest fencer in all of the oceans, knew that in order to do this, he could not avoid risks and dangers.

Silius, the man who loved navigation, knew that his goals of navigating a ship through each of the Eight Seas were most likely to be achieved by travelling with a captain who might fulfil a prophecy.

Lavender, the religious woman, knew that her sister might still be on that ship. That alone was enough to make her want to stay and fight, so that she might save her.

Jackson, who had recently discovered a love for fist fighting, wished to continue on with the Redflowers and see just how far he could make it.

Adriana, the gun lover, only wished to continue firing her guns at whatever enemies presented themselves to her. Being with the Redflowers presented many of these enemies.

And finally, Pip, the young acrobatic girl, knew that staying by the sides of those around her would be her best bet at survival. They would look after her, like her parents should have.

All of the Redflower Pirates, for their own reasons, accepted the dangers that were to come.

As Roseus received these answers, he almost wanted to laugh.

They all sounded suicidal. It was fitting, because he, as their captain, was the one who sounded the most suicidal of them all.

Captain Roseus clenched his fist and looked at it with determination.

"Alright then... Let’s do what we can."
