Chapter 59: Saint of the red sun

The streets were suddenly lit up with a terrifying blast of lightning as it tore through the road. It carried a force that would demolish houses in one go, and the road stood no chance under the force of this attack. The entire street was covered in it as it raged forward. The knights all turned and looked, fear and shock in their eyes at the size of the attack that was headed their way. Many of them did not have the time to react before these massive corpses of lightning ripped through their bodies like blades and only left them in roasted chunks.

Ross looked at the incoming attack, and even he looked panicked. His eyes dilated, and his hands trembled for a moment. He had to protect the princess, that was his ultimate task here, even if that meant doing what he would normally not do. He charged ahead, running like a man desperate to get something. The four knights looked at him, and so did the princess and the two nobles. They understood that he was about to take on the attack. The issue was the cost it would take.

Casting magic in this world was a difficult game. Hearing the voice of the world in your head trying to twist and control your mind while you did so was something very terrifying. It was the reason magic was respected and only used by a few. Casting large spells took a large amount of time. You had to go slow to ensure that you did not get consumed too fast by the voice of the world. But Ross was different, and that was why they looked at him running and said nothing.

There was a reason he was chosen to guard the princess, and that reason was because Ross was a once in a lifetime fire and ice prodigy, and one of the few people capable of a special type of casting, tuning out the World Magic.

Ross planted his foot into the ground when he got close and then thrust his hands forward. A red magical formation formed immediately, spinning fast. The force ripped the sleeves of his clothes into shreds before the attack even came. Ross gritted his teeth, and the flames blasted out with so much force that it would put a dragon to shame. It roared, glowing in its orange and red form as it created a wall of flames at least two meters thick and so dense that rock and metal would melt inside it.

It felt like the sun had come to Orion. The only thing that remained to be seen was if the spell was capable of holding back the attack. The lightning slammed into the wall hard, and a deafening explosion ripped through the air. The earth below their feet trembled, and houses collapsed at their sides from the force of the collision.

Ross gritted his teeth as the lightning pressed hard against his wall, but after an unrelenting amount of time, the lightning stopped. The attack was blocked, and the flame wall came down.

Huff

Huff

Ross let out heavy and tired breaths, sweat trickling from his forehead. Casting such a powerful spell without preparation was something that should never be done, but thanks to tuning out, he was able to. He looked up, wanting to see who had attacked, but in that moment his heart dropped. Not because nearly half of the knights were dead, but because of the two figures that he saw in the distance.

Ken also came out of the alley after he had managed to survive that attack. His mind was stunned for a moment when he saw that attack. It had been one word, overpowered.

As he stepped out of the alley, he looked at Ross and saw that his eyes were fixed ahead. That made Ken look as well, and then he saw two figures standing there.

A small female frame wearing a fitting white gown that had the red sun dot on her chest, and rather than a cloth mask, there was a silver metal strip covering her eyes all the way to the back. There was a chain connected to the back of the strip which continued into two long chains and connected to the shackles that held her hands. He could see how red the places the shackles held were, and yet she seemed to not be in any pain at all.

Beside her was a tall bulky man. He was at least six foot five, built like a mountain. He had on a red cloak and his sun dot was black. He wore a ceramic mask, one of a child laughing. In both of his hands were large butcher blades, and they had blood that was probably ancient stuck to them, as well as gashes from past battles. π™›π“»π’†π’†π’˜π™šπ“«π™£π™€π’—π™šπ“΅.π™˜π™€π™’

’Shit, their presence is terrifying, even Sierra did not have this sort of presence.’

"Hey kid, step back and come with the elf princess," Micheal yelled hurriedly.

Ken turned and looked at him, then he grabbed Luna’s hand and they backed away slowly. Leo followed as well until they met up with Ross and the knights.

Right now, on the roof, they were surrounded by at least twenty to thirty cultists ready to attack, and now these two.

"Who are they?" Ken asked.

"The Red Sun Cult," Ross replied as he started to regain himself. "They are a cult that was built a long time ago, almost as long as the kingdom itself, and in the beginning no one knew their goal, but after the Great War, it became clear.

They seek to remove the Vermilion family from the throne. They have been going at it for years and years." He gritted his teeth hard. "But for them to have this elaborate attack prepared, it should not be possible." He looked up at the two standing there.

"Those two are going to be a massive issue. The one in white is a saint of the Red Sun. There are only seven saints, and it is the highest position in their cult, and the one beside her is her second in command."

As if knowing that they were speaking about her, the saint let out a wide sigh and tilted her head to the side.
