I'm the Culinary God
Chapter 1014 - 421: Midnight Snacks May Be Unhealthy, but They’re So Satisfying! Master’s Clear Soup Noodles!
"Oh, you guys really are eating at home!"
When Chen Yan and Ren Jie entered, seeing Lin Xu in the kitchen, they knew their visit wasn’t wasted today.
The two often came by, so they specifically bought two pairs of cotton slippers to keep in the shoe cabinet by the door.
After changing shoes, Chen Yan eagerly approached the kitchen door and asked Lin Xu:
"Brother-in-law, what delicious things are we having tonight?"
"There’s a roast chicken steaming in the pot. Later I’ll stir-fry some roasted lamb, and for the main dish, we’ll have stir-fried noodles."
"Then why are you holding a bullfrog?"
Lin Xu looked at the bullfrog in his hand and smiled, saying:
"Preparing a late-night snack for Dundun. It eats four meals a day now. It’s cold, so it needs to eat more to resist the cold... Did brother-in-law finally not have to work late tonight?"
Ren Jie came into the kitchen with a bag of mangosteen and a reticulated melon:
"I finally got off early today. Originally wanted to watch a movie, but the show was canceled, so we decided to find a place to eat..."
So, instead of going to any restaurant on the street, you drove all the way from Chaoyang to Haidian, right?
Really committed to eating.
Ren Jie washed his hands and placed a small cutting board on the workbench, before taking the reticulated melon out of the bag and placing it on the board to slice with a fruit knife.
First, he scraped the pulp into the trash can, then removed the skin.
He sliced the remaining melon flesh into small pieces and arranged them on a fruit plate.
Once arranged, he took out several fruit forks and carried them outside for Chen Yan and Shen Jiayue to taste.
"Try this melon, see how it is. It’s imported, and if it’s not good, we need to complain to the fruit store."
Chen Yan saw Dundun lying on the piano and joined in.
However, she couldn’t compare to Shen Baobao’s skills; she only knew some simple melodies.
Like now, the chairman of Joyful Media tapped the keys for a while before finally playing a piano tune as basic as floor tiles — "Two Little Tigers."
She sang as she played:
"Two little Dunduns, two little Dunduns running fast, one without ears, one without a tail, how odd, how odd!"
Dundun, eyes closed, was ignoring her.
But when Chen Yan wanted to sing it again, Dundun got up, tapped her head with a paw, then scuttled away with its little bottom wiggling.
Chen Yan: "!!!!!!"
"You rascal Dundun, you dare hit your elder? Have you gotten cheeky because I haven’t scolded you lately?"
Shen Jiayue tried a piece of melon:
"Wow, this melon is lovely — fragrant, sweet, and so smooth; it’s like eating ice cream."
She picked up another piece and fed it to Chen Yan at the piano:
"Are you bullying Dundun again, thinking you’ll go fishing on the weekend and draw the air force? My son brings luck, don’t distrust him."
"I believe you, but the forecast says it’ll snow this weekend. Your son can’t force fish to bite, can he?"
"Doesn’t matter; our Dundun is the best regardless."
Meanwhile, Lin Xu finished cleaning the bullfrog and placed it in a dish, waiting for the roast chicken to be fully steamed before putting the dish into the steamer for cooking.
Next, he sliced and marinated the lamb.
During the marinating time, he boiled the noodles.
For stir-fried noodles, don’t overcook them. Boil until soft, then cook one or two more minutes until the center is still slightly white.
Drain them into a basin and rinse briefly under cold water. Ren Jie had already prepared the lettuce Lin Xu brought back.
Place the wok on the stove, add oil, and fry the chopped luncheon meat. Scramble two eggs and remove them from the pan. Sauté chopped scallions and minced garlic in hot oil until fragrant, then add noodles and stir-fry over high heat.
When nearly done, pour in light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, sprinkle with salt and chicken powder, mix through, then add in the eggs and luncheon meat, followed by lettuce, and continue stir-frying.
Once the lettuce wilts, serve and plate.
Noodles done, Ren Jie took them outside while Lin Xu began cooking the stir-fried roasted lamb.
Meanwhile, Dundun’s bullfrog was ready, Shen Jiayue walked in, and Chen Yan used chopsticks to debone the bullfrog meat, placing it in Dundun’s dish, then drizzling the broth on top.
While arranging at the dining table, a sneaky little head poked out from the stairs, clearly lured by the bullfrog aroma.
"Come, darling, time to eat. Auntie was only joking; my Dundun’s tail and ears aren’t missing at all. Come, have some meat."
Dundun hesitated before coming downstairs, circling its dish.
The meat was still a bit hot. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
It wanted to eat but was wary of the heat, amusing everyone.
If you’d known you were so afraid of hot food, we’d have cooled it for you.
Chen Yan originally wanted to tease it further.
But she thought better of it — relying on Dundun to shed the air force hat was crucial.
Once Dundun adapted to the temperature and began eating, Lin Xu finished the stir-fried roasted lamb and even prepared two cucumbers for Shen Baobao’s facial mask.
The group sat at the dining table, starting today’s indulgent late-night snack.
Simple yet flavorful, the menu included a steamy roast chicken, a large portion of lamb with onions and parsley, garlic paste cucumbers, and everyone had a big plate of stir-fried noodles.
No street stall would serve such unceremonious fare, yet everyone savored each bite.
A meal unmatched, with every dish impeccably prepared — even if you’d just eaten, you’d still be tempted to try a couple bites.
Chen Yan placed a chicken leg on her plate, tasted it, and was instantly hooked:
