The wind howled loudly at night.
Suddenly, a figure flashed across a remote path. Under the moonlight, a gleaming Long Saber looked especially terrifying.
Footsteps stepped on the fallen leaves on the ground, yet not a single sound was heard.
Only after reaching a clearing could one see it was over a dozen masked men pursuing a Swordsman holding a sword.
The man’s arm was injured. He had run desperately, blood dripping from his arm onto the ground, leading his pursuers straight to him.
Now, just like a stray dog, he faced a life-or-death moment.
“Clang!”
A metallic ringing echoed.
The Swordsman grabbed onto the Chain hanging down the sheer cliff face.
“Arggh!”
He clenched his teeth, put all his strength into one arm, kicked off the cliff face, and scrambled upwards.
The dozen pursuers arriving at the scene were stunned by the sight.
“Don’t let him escape!”
“Go after him!”
Someone seized the Chain and began climbing.
In mere moments, three men had scaled the Chain. A faster one caught up and swung his Long Saber towards the Swordsman’s leg!
“Scram!”
The Swordsman roared, slashing down with his sword.
“Ahh!”
A scream pierced the air. The man below clutched his eyes, lost his grip, and plummeted downwards, dragging the two men beneath him down as well.
The Chain swung wildly from the impact.
Fortunately, the Swordsman had already reached the cave entrance.
His eyes turned icy cold. He swung his sword fiercely at the Chain!
Sparks flew brightly in the night.
“Clang!!”
With one strike unfinished, the Swordsman swung again.
“He’s trying to break the Chain! Stop him!”
Shouts erupted from below. Someone immediately grabbed the Chain and surged upwards.
The Swordsman’s desperation grew. If not for his wounded right arm, he wouldn’t be struggling like this, unable to sever even this Chain.
“Ahhhh!!”
The Swordsman let out a guttural roar, putting every last bit of strength into a final strike.
The Chain snapped apart with a sharp crack.
The Swordsman let out a long breath. He glanced down, then slipped into the cave, heading towards the Abyss River on the other side.
“He got away!”
“Take Chang Guan Pass into the Abyss River! How far can he possibly run with such severe injuries?”
“After him!”
The night fell silent once more.
A figure slipped past the Government Officers on the city walls and infiltrated the city.
Finally, the Swordsman found a long-abandoned courtyard within the city and hid inside.
But this place wasn’t safe for long. An empty, deserted courtyard like this would only make him easier to find.
He panted heavily, catching his breath, tending briefly to the wound on his shoulder, then hurriedly left again to find another hiding spot.
“Who would have thought Ouyang Feng himself would come to this…”
The Swordsman let out a self-mocking laugh.
He knew he was walking into a deadly trap. Multiple Jianghu factions were hunting him, leaving him almost nowhere to run. Yet, even so, he had to gamble.
That’s why he had traveled thousands of miles to seek that single sliver of opportunity here in Qingshan City.
…………
Lihua woke up during the night.
Chen Changsheng was already resting. Ruyi was busy at the Embroidery Workshop and hadn’t returned home tonight. Lihua, wide awake, was perched on the courtyard wall, gazing around.
Faintly, she heard movement.
Someone was entering the alley.
Lihua, still pondering the events of the day, snapped back to attention at the sound.
She looked over and saw several figures, dressed in black, stepping into the alley.
Unfamiliar faces!
One of them instructed: “Leave no courtyard unchecked! But remember, don’t wake the occupants! If government officers investigate, escaping the city will be difficult!”
“Yes.”
Lihua watched as someone leapt onto a wall and dropped into Ruyi’s courtyard.
Her eyes widened in alarm. She called out.
“Meow!!”
A harsh cat’s cry shattered the nighttime silence.
Suddenly, everyone inside and outside the courtyard was startled.
“Stupid stray cat!”
One man snorted coldly. Lihua saw a blade flash toward her.
‘He wants to kill me!’
Lihua’s fur stood on end. She nimbly leapt aside, avoiding the lethal stroke.
“Meow!!!”
Another fierce cry ripped through the air.
Lihua stood firmly on the wall. The innocence in her eyes vanished, replaced by a sudden fierceness.
She jumped down, landing in the alley right in front of the courtyard gate.
She seemed to be taunting them, calmly licking her paw without even a glance their way.
The man outside the yard frowned. “Kill this annoying stray cat!”
The men rushed forward together.
Blades flashed before Lihua’s eyes.
She sprang into the air, darted up a wall, then abruptly spun around, claws extended as she raked at the man behind her.
“Scraaatch!”
A sound of tattered clothes was heard.
In the blink of an eye, a bloody scratch appeared on the back of one person. His clothes were ripped open, showing the flesh torn by claws.
With a scream, everyone was startled.
That person felt behind his back and was startled again. He said, “The soft armor is torn!”
“What joke is this?!”
How could a cat tear through soft armor with its claws.
With a serious look, that person said, “It really is torn. This is no ordinary wild cat!”
Everyone looked over and saw Lihua leap swiftly up to the top of the wall.
It looked down at the people in the alley, shaking its paw with disgust.
So dirty…
“Useless thing! Step aside!”
The leader gripped his knife and rose. This matter spread would be so shameful. A mighty assassin of the Blood Blade Sect was being blocked by a wild cat.
The blade’s light flashed by again. But when he thought he had hit his mark, he saw Lihua’s figure flash suddenly and vanish from the wall top.
As he turned his head, he suddenly felt a chill rise before his eyes.
He quickly dodged to the side.
“Scratch…”
Claws scraped from his ear down to his chin, leaving three deep gashes. Blood welled out, looking nasty and scary.
The man backed away several steps, touched the scratches on his face, and panted hard.
Almost, almost…
If he hadn’t dodged at the last moment, he might have been sent to Yellow Springs today!
“What in the world is this?!”
Lihua appeared on the wall top again. It looked at the people below, then slightly tilted its head, as if it didn’t care about them at all.
Suddenly, a person stepped out from behind and stood in front of the leader.
They saw him clasp his hands and speak to the cat on the wall.
“This time we offended you deeply. Please do not hold it against us. We will leave right away and not cause trouble again.”
The person beside him paused in surprise and questioned, “What are you doing?!”
The injured man was very angry. His killing intent was strong now. He just had to tear that wild cat into pieces.
That person raised his eyebrows and said, “This is not simple. We’ll explain once we get out.”
Jianghu is so big. Some people have seen some weird things before. When he saw the cat could tear the soft armor, he already suspected something. Now seeing how the cat tilted its head, he fully understood.
This was absolutely not an ordinary cat.
They might have come across a Monster today!
Lihua glanced at them, suddenly found it boring, and went back into the yard.
The people outside the alley slowly retreated and left the alley.
Until they reached another place.
The whole group felt puzzled inside. Some quietly wondered, not getting what that was all about.
The one who stopped everyone earlier spoke. “Don’t even think about going back! What we met wasn’t a wild cat, but a Monster!”
As soon as he said this, everyone suddenly woke up.
All at once, their backs felt cold, and fear crept into their hearts.
“In my younger days, before joining the Blood Blade Sect, I met a Snake Demon in the mountains. More than ten people in a caravan were swallowed alive by the Snake Demon. I luckily escaped and lived. I saw it all for real, not just heard it.”
With a grave look, he added. “Whether we can beat that cat Monster or not, and whether it’s truly a Monster, we should not provoke these ghostly evil things. Don’t act tough for a moment of pride, or we might die without knowing how!”
