Uriel didn’t give a damn about the system prompts, his mind in a clear, empty state.

The streak of blinding red tore through crawling reality, each step at this unfathomable speed sending crippling pain through Uriel’s legs. His jaws clenched tight, holding in the pain.

And before a blink, Uriel was before Seth. His plan was simple: push him or drag him out of harm’s way.

And there his miscalculation lay. At such speed, even the wind was obliterated in his passage, tearing bloody gashes across his skin.

Even a water droplet colliding into him at this speed was akin to a high-grade armor-piercing bullet.

So the moment he grabbed Seth by the waist and pushed forth, his entire shoulder bones down to his arms splintered and crumbled under impact.

Veins ruptured as fountains of blood peeked through his cracking skin.

But he was so fast that before his arm finished crumbling and the pain hit, Seth’s figure was already skidding through the split supply building along with Uriel.

Normally, such an impact at such speed could have affected Seth or seriously injured him.

But his Grim Armor absorbed most of the force, though hair-thin cracks ran through the abdomen protection plates.

Uriel’s figure skipped against the ground, rolling and skidding before inertia finally died down.

Crackle!

Strikes of lightning connected to the earth from the sky, thunderous clouds letting out a roar that peeled through the heavens.

Whooooom!

The world shuddered, finally reacting, as spiral winds billowed through the trailing void of Uriel’s wake, whipping storms so great even the Defiled was flung away like a ragdoll, helpless before nature’s force.

The Defiled’s teeth ground in fury as it spun through the air. Even the abomination couldn’t understand what had just happened.

One moment it could practically taste its victory meal from its drooling mouth, the next moment its prey was gone, and it was sent flying.

The furious gale whipped across its tumor-clustered skin, leaving shallow bleeding lacerations — a feat in itself, considering the monster’s absurd durability.

Light finally flooded into the dark trail as Uriel’s blood in the air evaporated before it could splatter against the floor.

Uriel’s sunken, burning red footsteps finally showed themselves.

The furious reaction finally died down...

Seth’s vision spun as he wheezed, trying to suck back the air forcefully deprived from his lungs.

But his chest remained too contracted to let any in. Blood vessels bulged in his eyes as he raised his arm weakly, forming a fist and bringing it down on his chest.

Like a faulty device slapped into working, his body finally reacted, his chest rising as a flood of wind was pulled through his nostrils, filling his lungs.

Cough! Cough! Cough! He coughed heavily, struggling against aching muscles to his feet.

His glowing purple eyes scanned his surroundings...

’What the hell just happened?’ He wondered as his mind spun and rang.

He could have sworn he was just before the Defiled about to get butchered, and now he was here.

Wasn’t this the supply building a few meters away from their battleground?

Finally, his eyes laid on a crumpled figure in the distance. His pupils constricted in recognition.

Uriel!

He rushed forward, each step sending painful jolts to his brain, but he suppressed it regardless.

Uriel’s battered figure lay at the end of a shallow trench, unmoving. His right arm was in a critical state.

Blood and bone meshed into pulp, his shoulder contorted as constant streams of blood spurted out like geysers.

’He couldn’t be dead, could he?’ Seth thought worriedly. At this point, he would be stupid not to realize Uriel was the culprit of whatever had just saved his ass.

His brows furrowed from worry as he squatted down, an action that sent blinding shocks of pain through his body.

He gritted his teeth, holding steady as he tried to feel a heartbeat while instinctively sending a pulse of essence to get an accurate diagnosis of Uriel’s condition.

He felt one, but it was weak, slow, and shallow — threatening to stop anytime soon.

Uriel’s condition was critical. In addition to his constant loss of blood, he suffered fractured bones across his legs, particularly in his heels.

His ribs were fractured, his neck and cheekbones riddled with cracks. He had internal bleeding, and his organs were badly damaged.

Finally, his body was completely dry of essence. Seth could even feel vital parts of Uriel’s system shutting down rapidly.

Seth’s expression turned grim. If this had happened yesterday before the origin and corruption madness, he would have concluded Uriel was dead. But now there was hope.

He tugged on his inventory, summoning a pile of essence shards he had earned on their way here.

Dumping them onto Uriel’s figure, hoping it would do something.

And indeed it did. Uriel’s pores acted on instinct, greedily sucking in the crystallized energy.

Finally, his condition began to stabilize. His heartbeat was still weak but no longer fading. The spurts of blood across his shoulder and arm died down.

And his system stopped shutting down.

’Sigh! Hang in there, man.’ Seth muttered a small prayer for Uriel. He didn’t dare touch him, let alone relocate his body.

In such a fragile state, the wrong move or wrong application of force would make things worse.

Roarrrrrrr!

Lightning struck as a furious roar reverberated through the skies. Seth’s heart rate sped up.

Chills crawled through his veins. Surprisingly, fear seemed absent in his gaze as he stared toward the direction of the roar.

The cold amethyst orbs beneath the Grim visor shone through, almost piercing the distance to see the Defiled figure.

The will to win pulsed strongly in his mind...

Seth stood up, his adrenal glands pumping loads of adrenaline through his system. His pain went numb, his exhaustion fading.

His mind went unprecedentedly clear, him though dwindling to nothing as he entered an ephemeral state.

He outstretched his palms...

With a rattling hum, his broadsword flew from the distance into his grip.

His dwindling ether flared, his blood boiled hot, his gene trembled from excitement, as a stunning change began to occur.

Deep within Seth’s body, in a space that transcended time and causality — a place with many names across the cosmos.

Some called it the ancestral space, and some called it the gene room. It was a place where all connected by the same lineage could meet despite distance and time, and where the shadow of a progenitor resided.

The shadowy gene room was dark and lightless when suddenly a row of teeth shone in the darkness.

The silhouette of the figure remained elusive, only the unrestrained crazed smile in the darkness serving as evidence of their existence.

The mouth moved, its smile stretching wider. "Make space for me, old man, hehehe. He is my descent also, you see."

The gene space shuddered as they spoke, growing larger and more accommodating.

A thunderous snort reverberated through the lightless space. The mouth burst into louder laughter.

"Hahahah! So stingy! But this time you have to share!"

The voice quaked through the gene space as its growth exploded even further, its reaction rippling through reality as Seth’s gene underwent an unprecedented evolution.

Rattling chains of a gene lock pulsed into existence, binding deep into Seth only to crack and shatter in a heartbeat.

The laughter grew wider and more unrestrained, its voice thundering through the gene space, echoing through Seth’s soul.

The system screen glitched and cracked red.
