Clatter, clatter.

The sound of footsteps shouldn’t have been loud enough for anyone to hear, but someone did.

Lucien’s ears perked up as he sensed some movement near his door

The awakening had elevated his senses by a whole other degree. And it had taken him a lot of time to get accustomed to it.

Is it Mark?

Frowning, he picked up his phone only to find no response from any of them.

That could only mean whoever was outside had probably come with ill intentions.

Lucien exited from his room and spotted Evelyn sitting at the dining table scrolling through her phone without a worry.

"Stay here."

After saying that, he advanced towards the door and materialized the nail gun in his hand, not bothering to hide it from her.

Evelyn turned toward him in confusion, but when she saw the nail gun materializing in his hand, her mouth fell wide open as if not knowing what to say.

Three people.

That was the number he had estimated from the faint but unmistakable sound of footsteps.

Yet before he could even reach near his door, a loud bang was heard and the door broke apart, dropping to the ground with a loud thud.

The trio rushed in quickly, trying to catch the person that lived here off guard, but they had chosen the worst option out of all the flats present.

Bang.

The first shot was fired before the man in the front could react. The nail lodged into his forehead — taking his life effectively.

Lucien halted for a second, surprised by the power of the nail gun but that short gap was enough to be seized by the remaining two assailants.

"DIEEE."

The short-statured man, enraged by his teammate’s death, hurled the axe directly at Lucien while screaming at him.

Lucien slipped beneath the axe, rolled forward, and fired three shots in quick succession before he sprang back to his feet.

The nails sped through the air and embedded directly into the second attacker’s neck — blood sprayed forth as he too died. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

The middle-aged man in the back, already scared silly from the weapon’s penetrative power, had decided to flee the house immediately. Still, before he could step out of the apartment, Lucien fired another shot and the man fell dead with wide eyes that reflected pure terror.

"Ahhhhhh..."

Evelyn screamed and dropped on the floor, her whole body trembling uncontrollably after witnessing multiple men dying with her own eyes.

Everything had happened too fast for her to react, due to which it wasn’t until the last man fell dead that she came back to her senses.

And the preparator was none other than the man whom she had decided to live with.

His gaze flickered towards her — there was nothing he could do.

He was never good at providing consolations. And things were only going to get worse from here on, as he had recognized one of the them.

Aiden’s lackey.

But he shouldn’t have met him now, at least not when no one knew about the awakening crystal.

Was Aiden trying to take command of the people far earlier in this timeline?

"Or he has already consumed an awakening crystal and is starting to spread his control."

Exhaling, Lucien moved the three corpses near the balcony and threw them off into the Black Water one at a time.

His attention shifted back to Evelyn, who kept crying nonstop like a little child.

The reaction she gave made him pause.

Why didn’t he feel anything when he killed them? If not crying, shouldn’t he have at least felt nauseous or repulsive by the blood that stained the floor?

I feel... nothing.

And it wasn’t the time to worry about useless things.

He shifted his attention back to the door and started fixing it, thanks to the remaining tools he had with him.

After he was finished, he closed the door.

Her choked sobs still reached his ears, once again reminding him of his recently improved senses.

With a sigh, he placed his hands on her shoulders only to find her flinching back like a scared kitten.

But her reaction wasn’t the reason he was surprised.

In novels he had read, S-rank talents were always known to be a power wielded by the strongest of all.

The ones who had this level of power were able to make decisions capable of turning millions of lives upside-down, and now a living potential was sitting right in front of him, staring at him with eyes filled with raw fear.

But the system didn’t give him a description, hell, it didn’t even give him a name for the talent, leaving him a little helpless.

There was no point guessing — he’d find out when she awakened.

"You can leave if you want, I won’t stop you. But if not, then go and rest for a while. I need to give you something later."

She only moved after a few minutes, entered her room and closed the door without any words.

She needed time, and Lucien understood that without being told.

Summoning the roulette, he glanced towards the gacha ticket to make sure he had one before attempting a spin.

The wheel slowed down and multiple white-colored fireworks once again burst before his eyes, signifying another common-tier pull.

"Curse my luck."

"This much?" Surprised would be an understatement, as he had never received this many types of food at once, let alone in such absurd quantities.

The thought of food also reminded him of the message he had sent, so he picked up his phone and checked for any new notifications once again.

By tomorrow, Evelyn might be in a state to talk. Hopefully.

That will be the time for her to awaken.

And for him to be prepared for the upcoming problems.
