Infinite Skin System: Starting as An Eldritch Knight
Chapter 125: Inevitable Fate
Carter caught Sasuke’s wrist. The Constable looked up in surprise.
"There is no correct path. And there is no one predetermined Fate. You make your own Fate. Only when you understand that you should draw."
Sasuke nodded grimly. "I understand."
Carter released his wrist.
’Damn! This girl is strong as hell.’ Sasuke thought to himself.
Then he drew the cards.
"How much should I draw?"
"Three. It will show you a complete story." Carter replied.
"Three it is." 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
Sasuke drew three random cards and placed it on the table.
Suddenly, all three cards burned fiercely. The sight made all the other customers within the tavern gasped. Carter could hear the whispers they said under the breath.
"What is happening?! Is she some type of seer?"
"The card burns! She is an Awaken!"
"I want to draw the cards too..."
Sasuke frowned deeply. "What does this mean?"
"It meant violence. Fate holds violence for you in the future, Constable Nakasuji. Let us see what they are, shall we?" Carter said.
He flipped the first card over. A man with a feathered folding fan in his hand. Around him were people being impaled on large wooden crosses.
"That man is..." Sasuke widened his eyes.
"You thought correct, Constable Nakasuji. It is you know who. For our own safety, I would not speak out his name." Carter said.
Sasuke nodded grimly. The man with a feathered fan was Lord Regent Busujima. The current ruler of the Enzan Kingdom.
"What are all those deaths? What is it related to me?" Sasuke asked.
"That question can only be answered by the next card."
Carter flipped the second card over. In it was Sasuke wearing a blood-soaked shirt holding a someone in his hands. The person that died was blurred out, preventing Sasuke to see who it actually was.
The Constable frowned even deeper.
Carter continued and flipped the third card. An image of Sasuke thrusting his sword into the back of Lord Regent.
Sasuke stood up immediately. "This... This cannot be. You witch!"
"Calm down. Constable. I am no witch. And I advise you to not attract more attention to yourself."
The people were staring at them. They moved their eyes away when Sasuke glanced around.
The Constable cleared his throat and sat down, pretending like he didn’t just lose his temper. No one could know that a seer saw him killing Lord Regent. The consequences would be unimaginable.
"Let me read this line for you, Constable Nakasuji. Don’t worry, I will talk discreetly to keep you and I safe."
Sasuke nodded. Now that he had calmed down. He was more curious than ever. He must need to know what it all meant.
"The first card. A bloodbath. A slaughter. He who you already know will kill a large number of people."
As Carter spoke, the image on the card moved. It captured Sasuke’s gaze and he saw himself looking at a burning battlefield with many people being impaled on the crosses.
"The second card. Loss within violence. Amongst those who would be killed is someone you hold most dear."
The image on the second card moved. Sasuke saw himself knelt in the middle of the battlefield, holding a bloody corpse that he couldn’t identify who.
"This loss would result in one thing, Constable Nakasuji. A revenge to the culprit."
The third card moved. Lord Regent stood beside King Tenki on the balcony, looking down to the people of the Enzan Kingdom below. Sasuke stood near them. When everyone was distracted, he rushed at Busujima and killed him from behind.
"This is what Fate has shown you." Carter hovered his hands over the cards. The fire disappeared along with the images on the cards.
Sasuke’s face went pale. That was no trick. He saw it. He saw everything. He knew it was real.
"How can I prevent this?" Sasuke said.
"I don’t know, Constable Nakasuji." Carter said calmly. "I am only a fortune teller, showing you what Fate has in store for you. As for how to fight fate? That is up to you."
"You must know something. I can’t let that happen."
[Synchronization +3.0%
[Current Synchronization]: 27.3%
Carter used his divination ability quite a lot on his journey. Both to raise his money and Synchronization. The current Synchronization rate was now sitting at 3.0% for each divination he did. A rather respectable increase.
Synchronization did not increase every single time he used this ability though. Only when something important was revealed. He did quite a few wealth and health readings, basic fortune telling for the passersby and it didn’t increase that much or it didn’t increase at all.
Carter placed a coin on the table as payment and walked away.
"The only beings capable of changing Fate are the Gods, Constable Nakasuji. Farewell."
Sasuke didn’t stop Carter. He lowered his head and was lost in his thoughts. The girl he just met was an Awaken. She had power. There was a chance that she was just manipulating him. But deep down in Sasuke’s heart, he knew that it was real.
’It is inevitable...’
Carter arrived at the Funaberi Port. This was the second largest port in Enzan Kingdom with many smuggling ships that would travel to the Jado Kingdom. Carter knew that because the cards told him that.
’The cards told me that I will meet my guardians by boarding a ship here. I can’t switch skins if that’s the case...’
Carter continued to use Shrine Maiden. It was not his strongest skin and a pretty woman traveled alone would invite all kinds of trouble. But he still had Adrenaline and the Monster Beneath. Those Empowered Elixirs were still inside Shadow Apothecary’s Chest as well. Unless there was a Champion-level threat, he really had nothing to worry about.
Carter walked around the port. People gave him glances all the times. Either by the men that scanned his body. Or by the people that noticed the mask on his face.
Then he found it, a traveling ship that would stop by Jado once to trade. This was not a smuggling ship and Lord Regent was kind enough to not ban these kinds of trade. He was either very confident in his ability to spot spies or he was not worried about Ryuja at all.
Carter boarded the ship and paid the fee. He sat on the side of the deck overlooking the water surface. He’s waiting for the supernatural being to appear.
His ears twitched gently.
’Here it comes...’ Carter heard it.
Beneath the water surface was some elongated creature.
’Is this... really an Eastern Dragon?’
The beast slammed onto the side of the ship and caused it to tremble. Everyone stumbled over and fell on the wooden floorboards.
Carter held himself tightly by the deck and did not fall down.
’Convincing this monster to make a pact with me would be difficult.’
