Chapter 178: Chapter 178: Holy City

The Giyaku was a new port created after the final battle with Ryuja. It became the main point of traveling for many people in the Shingo Kingdom.

"Woah." Shirou couldn’t help but feel impress by the state of the Port.

It was clean, orderly, and the people actually followed the rules strictly.

Shirou saw many City Guards patrolling to make sure the place was safe. Previously, the local guards would mostly drink and dine. People never saw them do any work.

The City Guards couldn’t be like that anymore. They couldn’t afford to be caught by the Council of Men or the Council of Order.

Some officials of the old Kingdom still thought that they could do whatever they wanted. And they assumed that the New King couldn’t do much to old foxes like them. They were dead wrong.

Many corrupted officials were caught by the Council of Order and were executed publicly. This ensured that the rage of the people was answered and acted as an example for others.

Officials now didn’t even dare to walk wrong. Not after the blood that they had seen.

When Shirou stepped on the Port, a City Guard approached him. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

"You look unfamiliar. New here?" The guard asked.

"Yes, sir. I am Murasaki Shirou." Shirou said.

"Murasaki? You have the same last name as our Second Guardian. Have you received your identification yet?"

"What is identification, sir?" Shirou blinked his eyes in confusion.

"Ah, you probably came from the other towns. All citizens of Shingo required to have a piece of identification on them now. We’re only applying this new law to Giyaku and Seikyo for now but it should be the norm for the entire kingdom soon."

"Really? That’s the first time I heard about it."

"Yup. If you really have business in Giyaku, I suggest you to get yourself a piece of identification to avoid trouble."

"Of course, sir. Where can I get it?"

"Go to the Sub Shrine."

Shirou frowned even further. He didn’t understand why he had to go to a Shrine for a document and not some court facility. But he did anyhow.

The Sub Shrine was a second Shrine in Giyaku City. This Shrine was not made to worship the Gods or for ceremonial practices. The Sub Shrine’s main purpose was to do what the main Shrine wouldn’t do.

That was to do Divination and dealt with the usual supernatural issues.

When Shirou walked inside, he was surprised to see many monks and maidens in white uniform. A maiden approached him and bowed politely.

Shirou bowed back. "You’re here to make a new identification, sir?"

"That’s right."

"Please go this way."

The maiden guided Shirou into a private room where there was a disciple of the Heavenly Sky sitting.

There was a crystal ball on the table.

Shirou sat down at the opposite of the female disciple.

"You’re here for the identification?" The disciple asked.

"That’s right. But before we do that. I want to ask. Who are you? And who are those people?"

"Ah. We are the chosen ones."

"Excuse me?"

Carter used his Divination to pick a lot of people in Shingo to join the Shrine. Those that had talents in Divination or Martial Arts.

The Heavenly Sky Sect was made up. But he had made it real with all of these people.

The staffs and servants were the first level in joining the Shrine. Everyone had to become a servant and worked their way up. Then, if they could fulfill certain aspects, they could be accepted in the Heavenly Sky Sect and became disciples.

If those disciples had good performance, they could become a maiden, a monk, and even took certain administrative jobs for the shrine and the royal court.

This female disciple was the last one. She was talented enough to read the citizens that came for identification.

There were two main branches in this Sect. The Path of the Mirror. And the Path of the Beast.

This was, obviously, based on Carter’s Mirror Art and Primal Art. He, of course, didn’t teach everything to the recruited disciples.

One reason was for security. Even with Divination, he didn’t like to give them everything. It would be a different story when he got the World Key.

The second reason was because they couldn’t learn it.

The Primal Art included the power of all Twelve Spirit Animals. It was easy for Carter because he gained that ability and mastered it instantly. But for an ordinary person, mastering one Animal Style would need a life time.

The same was for Divination. Instead of the entire thing, Fate Divination was split into fire, water, rock, plant, and wind. Each represented a path to see the webs of Fate and each had their own advantaged and weaknesses.

There were actually a secret fourth-level disciples within the Heavenly Sky Sect. These were called the Heaven Children. They were the most talented in Primal Art or Mirror Art and could actually become an important forces in the future. But not a lot of people knew about them because of obvious safety reasons.

The female disciple told Shirou about the basic of the Heavenly Sky Sect. This information was public so she could tell him.

The disciples of the Mirror Path were assigned to tasks like reading a person before granting them identification, which was exactly what this female disciple was doing.

In Shingo, they didn’t need documents or testimonies to create identification. They used Divination instead.

"Whoa. So we’re actually using supernatural powers for public matters." Shirou mumbled.

The disciple nodded. "What else would we use it with? Personal gain?"

Shirou scratched his head.

The disciple laughed, "Don’t worry now. Our Sect and religion don’t prohibit that. But the Holy Maiden did say that there are more than one way to use one’s power."

The ceremony continued and the female disciple began to read Shirou. Usually, she would see a brief summary of their previous lives then issued a document of identification based on that.

But the crystal ball broke when she tried.

It startled both the disciple and Shirou.

"Is everything alright?" Shirou said.

"Something is blocking the reading." The disciple frowned.

Suddenly, someone talked to her through telepathy.

"Our Holy Maiden would like to see you, Master Shirou."

"Me?"
