Inner Thoughts Exposed: Reborn General's Farming Daughter Has a System
Chapter 41: Making Soy Milk
Even their little sister despised them! They glanced at each other, taken aback when their eyes met, then they fiercely glared at each other. After that, they looked away.
Zhou Anran was no longer thinking about her rebellious children, but the rice plants in the fields.
The change didn’t seem that noticeable after Xiao Qingya used the pesticide. Now, she realized that there was actually a huge improvement.
Xiao Yuyan had told her that in the original plot, their rice plants only yielded so little they nearly became failures. The function of the pesticide was to get rid of the pests.
So far, the number of withering rice plants has decreased significantly. There were also less missing grain heads. The result was actually pretty great considering that the pesticide had less effect on birds.
At least, their harvest might not be that different from a family that kept watch over their fields day and night.
She was really looking forward to the end result. The price of foodstuffs had skyrocketed lately, considering many farmers had their crops failed.
This time, their crops might be saved thanks to their hardworking little lucky star! At the age of less than two, she was already worrying about their family.
If only there wasn’t any restriction from the system. Their little one just needed to tell them directly what she wanted and they would do it for her. Alas... things weren’t easy.
Xiao Qingya couldn’t say too many things or the words would be blocked.
"Mother, Second Brother and I will go to the village market tomorrow," Xiao Yuxi told Zhou Anran after they finished their snack and meal.
They had gathered quite some herbs and flowers for the past few days. If they took too long to make them into scented sachets, they might lose their efficacy soon. It would have been a waste of the energy they had used in gathering and drying them.
Zhou Anran nodded. She wouldn’t restrict her children’s little business and their creative ideas. "Don’t stay up too late tonight."
After the sky became dark outside, the women in the family made the scented sachets together. Xiao Qingya became interested and joined in, but she was quite clumsy because of her young age.
She could only help to stuff the herbs into the pouch, doing it carefully so that the herbs won’t be damaged. Of course, Xiao Yuyan already arranged the herbs she needed to use first.
Soon, the little one became sleepy and Zhou Anran had to go first to tuck her into the bed and coax her to sleep. Before she went to her room, she didn’t forget to remind her twin daughters not to stay up too late again.
When the next day came, Xiao Qingya was a little excited. She waited until her second brother and eldest sisters were gone before she dragged Xiao Yuyan to the little clay pot she had hidden away.
"Second Sister... need your help," she muttered, trying to practice complete sentences as soon as possible.
Xiao Yuyan pretended to be surprised when the little one revealed the clay pot. She peeked inside, finding quite a lot of soybeans inside. "What’s Little Ya going to do with this?"
"Grind it," Xiao Qingya answered, dragging the clay pot.
Seeing her little sister’s struggle, Xiao Yuyan helped her to pick up the clay pot. She followed each of Xiao Qingya’s instructions without asking much.
Xiao Qingya was a little confused. She thought that her second sister would lecture her the moment she found these soybeans. After all, with the poor harvest, they shouldn’t waste food.
Instead, Xiao Yuyan readily went along with her.
This family really spoils her a lot!
If she were in another family, they might have taught her a lesson until her bottom turned red, emphasizing she shouldn’t play with her food.
Xiao Yuyan really did as she requested. Once she got rid of the water and rinsed them, she grinded the soybeans by using a stone mortar.
In the next step, they boiled it thoroughly.
Xiao Qingya kept glancing at their mother’s room, wondering whether she might be angry if she found out what they were doing.
Although Xiao Yuyan didn’t ask, she still made a childish explanation to her inexplicable action. "I want to... drink soybeans."
Xiao Qingya was still a child, and she couldn’t be as thorough when she tried to recall something. Fortunately, Xiao Yuyan had heard the System talking about the recipe. As such, she didn’t forget about adding some sugar and other seasonings like a little salt.
Zhou Anran walked into the room the moment they were in the middle of boiling it, making the little one’s heart beat fast.
She looked away and avoided her mother’s eyes.
[System, Mother is going to spank me until my bottom is all red, is she? They say all naughty children will be punished.]
Zhou Anran bit her lip and inwardly sighed. Did someone do that to her in the past?
[At least my second sister will accompany me too, so I won’t be embarrassed and feel the pain alone.]
Xiao Yuyan was speechless. The little one knew how to drag people with her in her mischief now. Fortunately, Zhou Anran wouldn’t do that. She already knew what Xiao Qingya was up to. Hence, she stayed in the bedroom and stitched some of their clothes to fix them.
"Mother, Little Ya wants to try to drink soybeans, so we are trying to create a drink from it to see if it’s possible," Xiao Yuyan explained. She didn’t forget to add, "I am also curious, and we ended up creating this."
She lifted the lid of the pot to show it to Zhou Anran.
Their mother raised her eyebrows, and she walked over. She used the wooden ladle to scoop a little bit of the soy milk, blowing on it a few times, and then taking a sip.
Surprisingly, the taste was decent.
Zhou Anran let the other two children get a taste first before saying, "We can add more sugar."
Xiao Qingya and Xiao Yuyan nodded like chicken pecking the rice.
When Xiao Fenghao and Xiao Yuxi returned, they also tried the soy milk and instantly took a liking.
"Sell!" Xiao Qingya suddenly suggested, turning to her family with a hopeful look on her face.
