Inner Thoughts Exposed: Reborn General's Farming Daughter Has a System
Chapter 85: A Real Ghost?!
"Alright, alright. I am a magnanimous person so I won’t hold it against you." Taoist Master Pan muttered, as if he was giving Shen Fei a great pardon.
"Continue what you are doing," he said, pointing to a place on the ground filled with paper. "Bring him there."
Shen Fei got up, his face deathly pale. Saying these words had taken all of the energy in him. He felt weak all over, but he still got up and helped his other two fellow medicine boys to bring Xiao Jingran out.
Taoist Master Pan stroked his beard, taking in the sight before him without an ounce of sympathy.
"Be quick or we will miss the auspicious time!" He scolded them.
The three medicine boys trembled, and they all gathered their strength to lift Xiao Jingran. The scent of incense had made them feel dizzy.
All of a sudden, the willow tree in the courtyard trembled even without any wind. Taoist Master Pan frowned, feeling the goosebumps rising to his back.
He touched his neck, and all of the hair there was standing. The sudden chill caught him off guard, and he became restless.
"Quick, quick!" He urged the three medicine boys.
The story about a ghost haunting Xiao Jingran was something he had made up. It couldn’t be true, could it? Taoist Master Pan became restless.
He was a scammer, but he did have a superficial knowledge in the world of mysticism. Such signs were never a good thing, and he also started to feel an ominous atmosphere in the surroundings.
It wasn’t just him. The medicine boys felt the same. Zhou Anran, Xiao Fenghao, even the twins who were hiding from far away as they witnessed Taoist Master Pan’s fake ritual.
[Hiss, the atmosphere surroundings become so strange. What is happening?] Xiao Qingya mumbled.
The air had gone indescribably a few degrees colder. She hugged her mother tighter, seeking some warmth.
Xiao Fenghao frowned. He was about to show himself, but the sudden change of atmosphere made him hesitant. What is currently happening? If this was caused by that scammer, he sure got some skills.
The medicine boys put Xiao Jingran into the location Taoist Master Pan had pointed at. After they finished, they breathed heavily, trying to resist the urge to collapse on the ground so that they didn’t offend Taoist Master Pan again.
Under the moonlight, Xiao Jingran’s face was revealed.
He had become much thinner, his face pale. Then, his expression changed. With his eyes still closed, deep creases decorated his forehead, as if he was encountering something unpleasant.
"Taoist Master Pan, please start." Zheng Tao took a deep breath and reminded Taoist Master Pan who was just standing there like a rock.
Taoist Master Pan snapped out of his daydream, and he lifted the wooden sword in his hand. Only at this moment did he realize he was trembling.
Cold sweat beaded his forehead. He wiped it with his wide sleeve, his lips pulled into a thin line.
If he hadn’t noticed something was really wrong with Xiao Jingran, he would be a fool. This young medicine practitioner... might really be haunted by a ghost!
Taoist Master Pan shuddered, and he clenched his wooden sword tightly. He opened his mouth and began to chant some broken mantra his taoist teacher had taught him.
He really had a taoist teacher in his youth, and alas, perhaps because he wasn’t really fated with this path, his skills never improved. He couldn’t even remember the mantra correctly.
Later, he could only make a living by performing some trick to people with some money. He would dig out information about them first, then approach them with the intention to swindle these people out of their money.
All of a sudden, the wind became stronger. The leaves in the willow tree swayed back and forth, and some fell to Xiao Jingran’s body and Taoist Master Pan’s face.
Taoist Master Pan looked up. His face turned deathly pale. On the willow tree, one branch filled with leaves was still swaying back and forth even though the wind had long subsided.
Something invisible was playing with it. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
His breathing became ragged, and he nearly took a step back in horror.
"Go away, you insidious thing!" Taoist Master Pan gathered his courage and shouted, waving his wooden peach in an attempt to drive the ghost away.
Then, he heard a faint, almost inaudible voice right beside his ear. It sounded like a woman’s laughter.
A chill ran down his spine.
He freeze.
However, he still forced himself to move and fought against his fear. He stiffly put his hand in his pocket, tremblingly took something from a pouch.
He took a deep breath, trying to ignore the faint woman’s voice.
Taoist Master Pan plastered a yellow talisman on Xiao Jingran’s forehead and forced open the unconscious man’s mouth. With his pill, Xiao Jingran should be able to wake up soon.
However, before he could put the pill into Xiao Jingran’s mouth, he felt himself falling face-plant into the ground.
Xiao Fenghao had kicked Taoist Master Pan into the floor. His foot pressed to the man’s head.
Taoist Master Pan let out a muffled sound similar to anger, and he tried to get up. Alas, Xiao Fenghao’s strength was obviously more powerful compared to his thin build. Sand and soil entered his nose and mouth, along with the metallic taste of blood.
"Who are you?" Zheng Tao was taken aback. He ran toward Xiao Fenghao, trying to help Taoist Master Pan.
The moonlight was clear enough, so Shen Fei could see Xiao Fenghao’s face clearly. He found the young teenager familiar, and as soon as he glanced at Xiao Jingran, a flash of understanding appeared in his eyes.
"Tao, no!" He yelled, trying to stop his fellow medicine boy.
It wasn’t just Xiao Fenghao who finally revealed himself. Zhou Anran also stepped out of the shadows, holding Xiao Qingya tightly.
The twins’ hearts, which almost leaped out of their chest, finally fell to their places when they saw their second brother already had Taoist Master Pan under control.
They joined their mother.
Just as the people were studying each other with tense hearts, the light on the oil lamps around suddenly went out.
However, as the people were conversing, Xiao Qingya took a little action. And... what happened after that made her let out a heartbroken cry.
Because... she had made a terrible mistake!
