Chapter 48: BILLIE

Silas walked back into his room, jumping into the bed.

He looked at the ceiling, thinking of what to do next.

"Let’s see," he said, stroking his chin lightly.

"I would reach grandmaster rank in about 3 days if I focus on cultivation," he muttered. "But I also have the chance to speak with Gaia, or try my theory on void energy."

He was caught in a dilemma as he tried to make a decision. He also had the 500 million credits Sebastian had given him before he left.

"The advancement of the void energy could boost the company and even my career," he said again.

From tier 3 researcher, the chances of a scientist advancing were brutally slim.

Unlike the first three tiers before it, to advance to tier 4 specialist, a scientist needed to comprehend the entire models for one of the scientific branches and pass the standard exam set by the Scientific Body.

Generally, Life Branch was considered much more difficult than Matter Branch due to the high variables it contained.

Thus, it offered the highest resources to practitioners.

A smile began to form on Silas’s lips. "Who gives a fuck? Can’t I just learn both together?"

With his crazy mind, learning everything was just a problem of time, not mental capacity.

But his mind left the science issues and focused on cultivation once again.

He thought of Han, the guy who had almost killed him if not for the timely intervention of Max.

’That’s only one base, there could be more like Han in other bases,’ he thought.

Cultivation seemed more useful than anything else at the moment.

Especially now that he had become the spearhead against Crimson Fang.

He stood up from the bed calmly and took his bag out.

"I guess I can only push for grandmaster rank in the days to come," he said as he began folding his clothes into the bag.

In about 30 minutes, he had packed everything he needed into his bag.

He was about to walk out when a familiar scent filled his nose.

Almost immediately after, his door creaked open, revealing Amelia.

"So you planned to go without telling me," she said with a tinge of disappointment in her tone.

Silas looked at her and sighed. "I was just coming to your place."

Amelia looked into his eyes, then reverted her gaze, before nodding calmly.

"Are you happy?" she asked slowly.

"Look, me going has nothing to do with her, why are you acting this way?" he asked.

"Can’t you see the way she acts around you? Who knows, you might give in one day, especially now that I am not going to be with both of you for a long time," Amelia blurted out in a rush.

"I wouldn’t," Silas said as he walked out of the door, making his way towards the staircase.

Amelia followed behind, the floor releasing low thuds from her steps.

Silas stopped as he descended the first step.

He turned back and drew Amelia into his arms.

"Don’t worry, I am not doing that with her," he said.

Amelia allowed herself to get pulled, her head resting on Silas’s chest.

"Now that I think about it, we’ve never gone on a true date since I asked you out," Silas said, his hand stroking her hair.

Amelia nodded. "Yeah, courtesy of Crimson Fang."

Silas smiled at her words.

"How about this, when I get back, we go on a date after Crimson Fang is destroyed," Silas said, withdrawing to look down into her eyes.

"A promise," Amelia said, planting a kiss on his lips before running back to her room.

Silas smiled at her childish behavior. "Funny how she became so shy," Silas muttered as he continued his descent.

At the foot of the stairs, he met Billie, her gaze as calm as ever.

She looked at him as he came down.

"Good afternoon," she greeted calmly.

"Good afternoon," Silas replied.

He was surprised to see that the girl was speaking to him.

With her display during the introduction, Silas had even thought she would be the hardest to control in the entire unit.

"I want to know, why does Alfred think you are better than me?" she asked. "You might have an SSS-tier talent but that is nothing, especially to us who have skills."

"I am not in the mood to spar right now," Silas shook his head, knowing where the discussion was heading from the start.

To him, the fight with Han was enough battle for 3 months.

"Even if we have something on the line?" Billie asked, poking her head forward, closer to Silas’s head.

Silas pushed her back gently. "I am not doing that, I have a girlfriend," he said.

"What? I have not even offered anything," she blinked.

Silas smiled. "Don’t worry, it was a misunderstanding," he said directly, avoiding any follow up.

The girl did not stop either way, she walked closer to him.

"My skill allows me to..." She began to explain the details of her skill, making Silas’s eyes widen as she spoke further.

"So it has not worked on any other person but you before?" Silas asked to be sure.

"Yes," she nodded.

He could not afford to miss such an enticing offer.

What was fatigue? He could fight a hundred more battles if he could experience the skill.

"What do you want in exchange if I lose?" he asked.

"A way to advance to a tier 3 citizen," Billie replied directly.

"Oh, okay then, I accept," Silas said, changing course to the training ground.

Billie smiled.

She followed behind.

’Finally, I can know why even Alfred praised him,’ she thought.

Silas placed his bag on the floor in one corner and picked a katana from the weapon rack.

"We should make this fast, everyone is waiting for us," Silas said as he got into his stance.

He could not help but look into the viewing room, where everyone was gathered.

It seemed like they had prepared for this battle beforehand.

Even Max, Alfred, and Bryan, with how busy they were, came to the place.

A small tick echoed through the room and both sides lunged forward.
