Invincible through Touching Corpses
Chapter 248 - 247: Rapidly Approaching
Everyone was waiting for Lin Xinghai to give the order, but one second, two seconds, three seconds passed, and the communication channel remained silent. No command was given.
’Isn’t this a bit too slow?’
Ordinarily, waiting a few minutes, or even ten or more, for a commander’s order would be normal. But at a critical moment like this, every second counted.
Failing to give a command within three seconds was definitely slow.
One could even say it was an unacceptable crisis response time.
Just as these First Level Mercenary Corps Leaders were considering whether to speak up and remind Lin Xinghai, they suddenly noticed that something seemed off about the situation on the field.
’How did that group of Zombies that just broke through the defensive gap all fall without anyone noticing?’
The breach that had just opened, while not large, was still four or five meters wide. Given the density of the Zombie horde, at least thirty to forty Zombies must have poured through in those few seconds, and more were continuously being added to that number.
But those dozens of Zombies... they were just inexplicably killed?
And that wasn’t all. After the Zombies that entered the Defense Array were killed, it didn’t end there. The falling Zombies spread outward from the breach like a plague.
One by one... no, it was more like row by row. Before their very eyes, entire rows of Zombies were neatly headshot, and then they collapsed.
The scene was a bit bizarre. Although cannon fire was thundering and Zombies were being killed every moment, the way the Zombies in this direction were dying was far too orderly.
The Zombies at the very front... from left to right, the heads of an entire row of them were blown apart in the blink of an eye. In an instant, a dozen or so Zombies fell to the ground.
It was both shocking and bizarre.
It was as if an invisible grim reaper was reaping lives on a massive scale.
In just a few short seconds, the once-fatal breach had become the safest place, a large area having been completely cleared out.
Only then did one of the Mercenary Corps Leaders notice that a shooting platform had appeared at some point on top of Lin Xinghai’s Armored Vehicle. Lin Xinghai himself was there, holding two Tearing Rifles and spraying fire.
Every Mercenary Corps Leader who saw this was instantly stunned.
Almost no one dared to shoot with a gun in each hand. It was considered a pure waste of ammunition.
But not only was Lin Xinghai doing it, but from the tongues of flame spitting from the muzzles, they could also tell he had even activated full-auto mode.
To support this rate of fire, two crew members were assigned to Lin Xinghai specifically to reload his ammunition. These two were even equipped with four automatic loading cases, and even then, they could barely keep up with Lin Xinghai’s consumption of bullets.
This scene left the Mercenary Corps Leaders dumbfounded, but it also made them understand how all this had happened.
Without a doubt, Lin Xinghai had killed all those Zombies. His Gun Technique wasn’t just precise; more importantly, his rate of fire was inhuman.
A Tearing Rifle on full-auto mode could fire 10 rounds per second. With a gun in each hand, he could fire 20 rounds per second.
Combined with his incredibly high accuracy, when he unleashed his full power like this, he could kill almost 1,200 Zombies in a single minute.
His efficiency at killing Zombies was equivalent to all of their Mercenary Corps combined.
Of course, the Mercenary Corps Leaders also noticed that Lin Xinghai’s expression was serious, even a little strained.
It seemed that maintaining such a high frequency of attack was not easy at all.
And that was indeed the case. Such high-intensity shooting placed an enormous strain on both Lin Xinghai’s Perception Power and his body. He only maintained it for ten seconds before stopping.
It wasn’t that he couldn’t have kept going longer, but for the moment, it wasn’t necessary.
Although he had only unleashed his power for ten seconds, in that short time, he had killed nearly 200 Zombies, and a large area around the breach had been cleared.
Only the High Level Zombies had managed to barely escape with their lives from his round of automatic fire.
"What are you all standing around stunned for? Get moving!" While the crowd of Mercenary Corps Leaders were still in shock, Lin Xinghai’s voice finally came through the comms.
The Mercenary Corps Leaders all snapped out of it. The leader in charge of the breached section, in particular, jolted and quickly ordered his men to plug the gap.
What had been a not-so-minor crisis was thus single-handedly resolved by Lin Xinghai.
As the Mercenary Corps Leaders reeled in disbelief, they also felt a sudden sense of reassurance. Their orders became more orderly and methodical.
As for the Mercenaries below, perhaps influenced by their own leaders or by seeing a crisis dissipate into thin air, their confidence surged. The subsequent formation change proceeded without a single problem.
Before long, the original circular formation had transformed into an ellipse.
Of course, even though the formation change was complete, the trouble was just beginning for the various Mercenary Corps.
After all, how could the Defense Power of such an altered formation compare to that of a circular defense array?
Moreover, they had now entered the center of the Zombie horde, where the proportion of High Level Zombies had clearly increased. As a result, the pressure on the various Mercenary Corps skyrocketed.
Even though Lin Xinghai had assigned two of his own members to each Mercenary Corps, they were now starting to feel flustered and overwhelmed dealing with the horde.
Fortunately, at this moment, Lin Xinghai finally deployed the Combat Robots and Attack Drones.
Each of the Combat Robots was a killing machine, wielding a Heavy Machine Gun in each hand. The firepower produced by a single robot was nearly comparable to an entire mercenary squad.
Of course, their ammunition consumption was also staggering, so they were placed in key positions.
As for the Attack Drones, they were extremely flexible. They hovered in the air, immediately flying to support any area that came under pressure.
Although the Attack Power of the drones was a bit weak and they carried less ammunition, their sheer numbers made up for it!
A full 500 drones. Even if their armament was not very powerful due to their size, allowing them to only clear out Ordinary and Intermediate Zombies, they still relieved a great deal of pressure on the team.
In addition to all this, there were also many Mecha on standby. Combined with Lin Xinghai’s bug-like presence, their formation, which looked like it was on the verge of collapse, was actually rock-solid as it rapidly approached Outpost 32.
...
Meanwhile, at Outpost 32, the battle had already reached a fever pitch.
"Reporting, sir! The two Purgatory Bombs we launched in succession have killed a total of approximately 5,500 Blood-colored Beetles and over 80 High Level Zombies."
"Their first wave has been repelled, but the second wave is expected to arrive in about a minute. The number of frenzied High Level Zombies will likely increase to 200," a messenger reported, running into the temporary command room and panting for breath.
Hearing his subordinate’s report, Yang Jiansheng stared at the battle map before him, his face grave. The current situation was far more dangerous than he had initially estimated.
The combat strength of the High Level Zombies that had entered a berserk state, in particular, had truly exceeded his expectations.
If the situation continued to worsen like this, he estimated they wouldn’t be able to hold out for even five minutes.
