Chapter 384: Chapter 384: Victory

With everyone watching, Lin Xinghai charged out and fought for a full two and a half minutes. Only when the effect of his Superpower wore off did he casually return.

In that brief two-and-a-half-minute span, he had killed 300 Zombies, many of which were High Level Zombies.

Furthermore, of the 400-plus Zombies the group had just killed together, over 80 had been High Level Zombies, all shot down by him.

In terms of sheer numbers, he had killed more Zombies by himself than everyone else combined. As for his overall contribution, it was beyond question.

Lin Xinghai stepped over the pile of Zombie corpses at the stairwell entrance. Once inside, he asked Liu Miaomiao, "How are the wounded? Have they been treated?"

According to the plan, during the two and a half minutes he was out fighting, the others were meant to hold their ground and provide a safe environment for Liu Miaomiao to treat the wounded.

"Yes, aside from those with minor injuries that don’t affect their combat ability, everyone else has basically been treated," Liu Miaomiao said with a nod.

"How much of your Energy did you use?" Lin Xinghai pressed.

At this, the others all looked over. This was a critical issue. If Liu Miaomiao had used too much Energy, they wouldn’t be able to fight the Zombies so recklessly going forward.

"Don’t worry! I’ve used less than twenty percent of my Energy. As long as no one else gets seriously injured, I should have no problem lasting until the end," Liu Miaomiao said.

"I’ve been holding back pretty much all the High Level Zombies. If someone still manages to get seriously injured, then don’t bother treating them. Just leave them behind to call for their own rescue," Lin Xinghai said coldly.

He wasn’t a babysitter. If someone dragged down the team, he would abandon them without a second thought.

Besides, he had already sensed ten powerful auras appear on the roof of the building across from them a short while ago.

Lin Xinghai hardly needed to think to know it must be the rescue team sent by the Military Department. With a rescue team nearby, he would have no qualms about leaving the others behind.

The others, however, didn’t know this. A chill ran down each of their spines, and they all made a mental note to be extra careful from now on.

"Continue with the plan. Lure the Zombies to the second floor," Lin Xinghai commanded once more.

The team moved out immediately. At this point, everyone was following Lin Xinghai’s orders to the letter.

In this place, strength was all that mattered. More importantly, Lin Xinghai had given them all a glimpse of hope for victory.

Back on the first floor, the Zombies they had killed as a group, combined with those Lin Xinghai took down in his charge, totaled over 700—already exceeding their target.

Now, all they had to do was follow the plan step by step.

Soon, under Lin Xinghai’s command, the two teams continuously fell back. But with every step they took, they left several Zombie corpses in their wake.

In the blink of an eye, over ten minutes had passed. The team had retreated from the second floor to the third, and now they were on the fourth.

In total, they had been fighting for twenty minutes. It wasn’t a long time, but the high-intensity combat left many of them panting from exhaustion.

Their eyes, however, were shining brightly. On the first three floors, the total number of Zombies they had killed already exceeded 2,200.

Although two more hordes had arrived over time, the number of remaining Zombies was now just over 1,000 at most.

Lin Xinghai glanced at the team members around him and suddenly announced, "Change of plans. We’ll kill all 1,000-plus remaining Zombies right here on the fourth floor. Don’t conserve your Superpowers anymore. Focus on killing the enemy."

On the first three floors, they had fought purely with melee weapons, which had taken a massive toll on their stamina. If they dragged this out any longer, some of them might truly collapse from exhaustion.

"Ah! But... I’m afraid that even if we use our Superpowers, it’ll be difficult to kill all 1,000-plus Zombies on this floor. We don’t have much Superpower left," Sun Tianbo said.

Xie Shanyong said nothing. His team members’ consumption would only be higher; after all, they had used up more than half their Energy just escaping to this point.

On the first three floors, the defense in the fire escape had been handled primarily by Sun Tianbo’s team members.

"It’s fine. Just kill as many as you can. We’ve already been fighting for over twenty minutes. Delays breed new problems. If we drag this out and a few more hordes show up, you’ll all be out of stamina and Energy. That’s when we’ll be in real trouble," Lin Xinghai said.

In truth, at the very edge of his Perception Power’s range, he could already sense several Zombie hordes wandering in their direction.

Fortunately, they had already lured all the Zombies outside into the shopping mall. The noise wasn’t spreading too far, and most of the stench of blood was contained.

Otherwise, those hordes wouldn’t just be wandering over; they’d be sprinting.

Even so, Lin Xinghai estimated that those hordes would reach the mall in six or seven minutes at most. And as more time passed, the number of wandering hordes would only increase.

Hearing Lin Xinghai’s words, no one spoke up again. They had only been voicing their concerns; at this point, no one would dare to argue with his decision.

"Kill!" Lin Xinghai roared.

At his command, Little Fatty, who had been holding back for a long time, let out a grim chuckle and unleashed his Superpower at full force. He swung the incredibly heavy Fine Steel Giant Shield with ferocious power. With every swing, the Giant Shield shattered the bones of several Zombies.

The others also unleashed their Superpowers, and in an instant, their Zombie-killing efficiency multiplied.

Lin Xinghai took the last full magazine from a team member next to him. Combined with the 40-odd rounds already in his Tearing Rifle, that was all the ammunition they had left.

Less than 100 rounds in total.

Of course, thanks to his "special attention" on the previous floors, the number of High Level Zombies had been whittled down to just over 200.

’It’s enough. I won’t have to use my personal stash.’

After making a quick judgment, Lin Xinghai drew the standard-issue long spear from his back.

The next moment, he activated his Superpower. With the Tearing Rifle in one hand and the long spear in the other, he charged forward.

PFFT! PFFT! PFFT!

One by one, the heads of the nearby Zombies were pierced by his long spear.

Of course, Lin Xinghai’s main targets were still the High Level Zombies within the horde. The Intermediate and Ordinary Zombies he killed along the way were merely incidental.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

As he moved, he continually took moments to fire at distant High Level Zombies, ensuring they couldn’t pose a threat to the team while he was separated from them.

While Lin Xinghai slaughtered the High Level Zombies, the others slaughtered the Intermediate and Ordinary ones.

Under these conditions, the outcome was inevitable.

Five minutes later, Lin Xinghai pierced the head of the very last Zombie with his spear.

Staring at the floor covered in corpses, every member of the team felt as if they were in a daze. Besieged by over 3,000 Zombies with a severe lack of ammunition—even a large team of over a hundred people would have faced certain death in this situation.

But now, they had not only survived the crisis but had slaughtered every last Zombie. It was an accomplishment that no one would likely believe if they told the tale.
