Invincible through Touching Corpses
Chapter 387: The Second Day
Before, when their team only had four people, Lin Xinghai, despite his strength, couldn’t be completely reckless. For instance, they would avoid any Zombie horde numbering over 200, choosing to detour instead of engaging.
They also wouldn’t attack if two hordes were too close to each other.
They would only strike decisively when they found a suitable horde to target.
This wasn’t because Lin Xinghai lacked power, but because Liu Miaomiao and the other two couldn’t kill the Intermediate and Ordinary Zombies quickly enough.
So, in a way, Lin Xinghai’s combat effectiveness was being held back.
But now, with the addition of Sun Tianbo and his people, the team’s greatest weakness had been remedied.
As Lin Xinghai led them into battle, he was noticeably more aggressive.
Even when facing a horde nearly 300 strong, Lin Xinghai would lead the charge without a moment’s hesitation.
He no longer cared if two hordes were too close. Even if they were side-by-side, the team had the power to cut right through them.
Under these new circumstances, Little Fatty was amazed to find that he was earning more Points in the same amount of time.
This was all because they saved time that would have been spent searching for hordes.
Now, under Lin Xinghai’s leadership, it was just a relentless slaughter. It would have been difficult for their Points *not* to soar.
Over the course of the next day, everyone on the team was simultaneously happy and miserable.
This was especially true for the members Sun Tianbo had brought. They had never imagined that killing Zombies could be so effortless—it was practically a slaughter.
Even though they were only killing Intermediate and Ordinary Zombies, earning just one or two Points at a time, the lack of interference from High Level Zombies meant they could kill at an incredible speed. Naturally, their Points and rankings shot up.
Almost every time they took a break, these members would check the leaderboard and see their rankings had jumped by several hundred places.
The stronger members of the group, after following Lin Xinghai for just over two hours of killing Zombies, all broke into the top 3,000, meeting the minimum requirement for an admission spot.
This instantly energized the other members as if they’d been shot with adrenaline. After all, the entire reason they were fighting so desperately was to get into East Sea Academy.
As for Sun Tianbo, his own strength was already top-tier, so his chances of getting into East Sea Academy were high even without meeting Lin Xinghai. However, even if he did, he would have likely only been an ordinary Third Class Student.
But now, he was almost certain that, barring any accidents, he could become a Second Class Student. If he got lucky, even striving to become a First Class Student wasn’t out of the question.
It was safe to say that every single person on the team had found their goal and was rapidly advancing toward it. This, of course, was a source of happiness.
The misery, however, came from the fact that for nearly the entire day, they were either killing Zombies or on their way to kill more Zombies.
From 7:00 AM until sunset, a span of over eleven hours, their total rest time added up to less than an hour.
Lin Xinghai would typically lead them in killing Zombies for two hours before taking a short fifteen-minute break, and then they would repeat the process over and over.
Although they were all the Optimized and recovered their stamina quickly, this kind of prolonged combat drained more than just their physical strength; it also exhausted their mental energy.
Watching the setting sun, Lin Xinghai found a dilapidated and seemingly unremarkable house, leading everyone inside.
Everyone quickly fanned out. After clearing the Zombies inside the house, many of them took a few bites of dry rations before collapsing in exhaustion and falling asleep.
"I know you’re all exhausted, but the night watch still needs to be properly arranged. We can’t afford to be careless," Lin Xinghai said, finding Sun Tianbo to give him instructions.
"Don’t worry, sir. I’ll personally take the first watch. There won’t be a single mistake," Sun Tianbo immediately promised.
’It’s inhumane to make us stand watch when we’re this exhausted,’ he thought, but he didn’t dare let a hint of it show on his face.
He knew that if Lin Xinghai wanted, all he had to do was put the word out, and countless teams would be lining up to take their place.
After all, Lin Xinghai hadn’t made any attempt to conceal their activities while leading them on their Zombie-killing spree today, so they had run into several other teams.
Since it wasn’t the third day yet, a time when no one dared to attack each other, encounters with other teams were relatively peaceful. Sometimes they would even stop to chat.
And without fail, Sun Tianbo saw expressions of envy and jealousy in the eyes of every team they met.
They were practically dying to take their place.
Fortunately, Lin Xinghai found it too troublesome and rejected them all outright. Otherwise, his own group might have been out of a job.
Of course, the hard day’s work had been completely worth it.
All 23 members of their team had entered the top 3,000. As long as they maintained their positions, they were guaranteed admission spots.
Furthermore, five of them had already broken into the top 1,500. If they could seize the final half-day tomorrow morning, they even had a chance to push into the top 1,000 and become Second Class Students.
As for himself, his rank had already entered the top 500.
It was just a shame that the competition became exceptionally fierce within the top 1,000, and there were no weaklings to be found. With only half a day left tomorrow, it would be difficult for him to break into the top 100 for a First Class Student spot.
Of course, that was also because he had met Lin Xinghai too late. Otherwise, he felt he’d have had a First Class Student spot in the bag.
After all, neither Little Fatty nor Jin Tong could match his strength.
But one of them was ranked 48th and the other 52nd, making him burn with envy.
Of course, on Lin Xinghai’s original team, the one he found most inscrutable was probably Liu Miaomiao, who always stayed by Lin Xinghai’s side and seemed so quiet and gentle.
Her rank on the Points leaderboard had, without anyone noticing, climbed to 9th place.
When Liu Miaomiao killed Zombies, she didn’t do anything particularly flashy. She just wielded a foil, felling her enemies one thrust at a time.
Yet her efficiency was astonishingly high. She seemed completely unafraid of being surrounded; at times, she could face seven or eight Intermediate Zombies and calmly kill them all, one by one.
And during these fights, something always seemed to be wrong with the Intermediate Zombies. Oftentimes, their fatal attacks would suddenly become feeble and weak.
Sun Tianbo suspected it had something to do with her Superpower, but he couldn’t find any proof.
As for Lin Xinghai, there was nothing to say. That was just a pure display of overwhelming power.
"Brother Lin, the fight for the Energy Balls starts tomorrow at noon. Do you have any plans?" After arranging the night watch, Sun Tianbo returned to Lin Xinghai’s side and asked, his eyes full of anticipation.
He knew Lin Xinghai would definitely be going after the Energy Balls tomorrow. If he could be of use, perhaps Lin Xinghai, in a good mood, might spare an Energy Ball for him. With that, he could secure a First Class Student spot for sure.
