Invincible through Touching Corpses
Chapter 391: The Contest Begins
"What’s happened with Lin Xinghai now?" Zuo Wenyao asked, surprised, when Shi Wenjiang spoke up.
"To get the Credit Points for the ranking rewards, he plans to bag all of the top four spots. His plan is to gather enough Energy Balls and then give them to three other students."
"If he succeeds, the other three students will essentially qualify for the top four without even having to fight. I’m not sure if that’s against the rules," Shi Wenjiang stated succinctly.
Hearing this, Zuo Wenyao’s brow twitched violently. ’This kid really isn’t afraid of biting off more than he can chew. To secure the top four spots, he’d need to get at least twenty to thirty Energy Balls, and that’s only possible if he can also keep the other examinees from getting many. It’s too risky.’
Shi Wenjiang fell silent. ’Was that what I was asking about? The issue is whether or not he’s breaking the rules!’
’And now Zuo Wenyao is just worried about whether Lin Xinghai can actually pull it off. Talk about being biased!’
However, he had only brought it up in passing to fulfill his duty. If the other man didn’t care, then whatever happened next was none of his business.
"It is a bit risky, but I feel that this examinee, Lin Xinghai, is capable of pulling it off," Shi Wenjiang said, adjusting his attitude.
"What makes you say that?" Zuo Wenyao asked, surprised once more.
"His Gun Technique," Shi Wenjiang said, getting to the point. He then played a video recorded by Lin Xinghai’s group on their Communication Wristwatches. It showed Lin Xinghai, Little Fatty, and the others discussing how to compete for the Energy Balls.
As Shi Wenjiang played the video, many people in the command room turned to watch.
When they heard Lin Xinghai’s bold idea, they couldn’t help but look at each other in surprise.
Even though Lin Xinghai was the number one seed and had already accomplished the incredible feat of leading a team of 47 to kill a horde of over 3,000 Zombies on the very first night.
But they were still a bit shocked to hear he now planned to sweep the top four spots and was even aiming to purchase Earth Level Martial Arts right after enrolling.
They could easily imagine the uproar it would cause throughout the entire East Sea Academy if Lin Xinghai actually succeeded.
"Teacher Zuo, what he’s doing doesn’t seem to conform to the rules, does it?" an examiner from East Sea Academy said after watching the video.
Zuo Wenyao wasn’t the only examiner East Sea Academy had sent; there were ten of them present in total, but Zuo Wenyao was the chief examiner.
The military personnel in the room could ignore whether Lin Xinghai was violating the rules, but as fellow examiners, they couldn’t do the same.
"How is it against the rules?" Zuo Wenyao challenged. "Is there a single regulation in the exam’s rulebook that explicitly forbids an examinee from giving an Energy Ball to another after obtaining it?"
"Since he is abiding by the regulations, what he’s doing is not a problem. If there’s a problem, it’s with the people who wrote the regulations and allowed for such a loophole."
Hearing Zuo Wenyao’s firm words, the examiner who had been questioned opened his mouth, but said nothing. He just shook his head with a wry smile.
He felt that if Lin Xinghai failed, that would be the end of it, but if he actually succeeded, there would be a lot of arguing back at the academy.
But that would have nothing to do with him. He had already raised his objection; it was the chief examiner who had overruled it.
Of course, deep down, the vast majority of people in the room actually supported what Lin Xinghai was doing.
It wasn’t that they wanted to see the rules broken; it was that it had been so many years since they had seen such a demonic genius.
Personal interests aside, a demonic genius like him was an incredibly rare asset for the entire nation, and even for all of humanity.
Five years ago, humanity saw the birth of its first powerhouse to reach the Divine Demon Realm. But now, a full five years later, while the number of Divine Demon Realm powerhouses had grown, not a single person had been able to break through their shackles to reach the next Realm.
However, some Divine Demon Realm powerhouses had once traveled through an Abyssal Passage to the Abyssal Plane on the other side. There, they witnessed beings far more powerful than anyone in the Divine Demon Realm.
They didn’t know why the other side hadn’t sent powerhouses of that caliber to attack them over the years, but with the number of Abyssal Passages constantly increasing, the barrier between the two worlds would likely be shattered.
If powerhouses who surpassed their own level were to appear then, while their own side remained unable to produce anyone of that caliber, one could only imagine the fate that awaited humanity.
That is why they now needed a Demon—one capable of surpassing all who came before and advancing to a higher realm.
...
Of course, Lin Xinghai had no idea that a dispute had just broken out over him in the command room of the Military Department headquarters.
He had been waiting patiently.
As the time approached 12:00 PM, he took a deep breath, removed the Communication Wristwatch from his wrist, and casually slipped it into his pocket.
As long as it wasn’t on his wrist, enemies were less likely to focus on it during a fight.
Even casually putting it in his pocket like he did was fine. After all, the enemy wouldn’t know where he had hidden the Communication Wristwatch.
Using the last few moments, he checked his Tearing Rifle and the 1,500 rounds of ammunition in his backpack.
After confirming that everything was in order, he raised his head again to look at Dong’an Mansion across from him.
He could now see the figures of several soldiers appearing on the roof of the mansion.
’It’s finally starting.’ Lin Xinghai’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Soon, he saw ten soldiers leap from the rooftop, propelled by personal flight units.
The ten soldiers flew off in all directions. The personal flight units were incredibly fast, covering over a thousand meters in less than ten seconds.
And just then, the soldiers released their Energy Balls almost in unison.
Seeing this, Lin Xinghai’s eyes suddenly lit up.
’It’s just as I guessed. The soldiers released the Energy Balls after flying only one kilometer. This means there are a full ten Energy Balls within a one-kilometer radius of Dong’an Mansion.’
’The farther out I go, the lower the density of Energy Balls will be. Staying here is definitely the most advantageous.’
The instant he saw the Energy Balls released, Lin Xinghai unleashed his Speed Superpower without hesitation, bursting through the window and leaping downward.
As he fell, he executed the Phantom Body Technique, pushing off the wall with small, continuous steps to break his fall.
Just before he hit the ground, he tucked into a forward roll, completely negating his momentum. At the same time, his body shot forward like an arrow released from a bow, hurtling toward the Energy Ball a kilometer down the street.
