Invincible through Touching Corpses
Chapter 397: Rules Change
Of course, Lin Xinghai had no idea that a heated argument had broken out among the examiners because of him.
He was in a terrible mood.
When he rushed to the next target location, he found it completely empty.
Clearly, the team that had acquired the Energy Ball had already left.
All he could do now was use his current location as a center point and scan the surrounding area for any teams that had an Energy Ball.
There were quite a few teams in the vicinity. Within a minute of searching, he used his Perception Power to find three of them, but none were carrying an Energy Ball.
Of course, he was confident that the team with the Energy Ball couldn’t have gotten far in such a short time.
With his Speed, even if he had to resort to a brute-force method like searching in expanding circles, it probably wouldn’t take long to find them.
But the problem was, how was he going to find the other Energy Balls?
The longer this went on, the more the teams would move, making it harder to find the Energy Balls. At that rate, achieving his goal of collecting 50 Energy Balls would become incredibly difficult.
As Lin Xinghai was pondering these matters, he suddenly felt the Communication Wristwatch on his arm vibrate.
He stopped immediately to check it. The Military Department wouldn’t send them a message unless it was important.
When he read the message, a complex look appeared on his face.
"To make it easier for all examinees to find the Energy Balls, the map will sync and display their real-time locations every hour. This display will last for one minute. We hope all examinees will seize this opportunity to find the Energy Balls."
The message was simple, but its contents were explosive.
Lin Xinghai was almost certain the fighting was about to intensify dramatically.
After all, without this Rule, some lucky person could just grab an Energy Ball, leave the city center, and hide in a corner somewhere. They could potentially wait out the entire exam without a single fight.
But that would make it less a test of strength and more a matter of luck.
The military must have created this plan precisely to account for that possibility.
If the Energy Balls’ locations were revealed every hour, no one could just hide somewhere until the end.
Of course, since the locations weren’t constantly displayed—only for one minute each hour—it still gave those lucky enough to find an Energy Ball a sliver of hope.
They wouldn’t need to defeat their enemies; as long as they were good at escaping, they could ultimately hold on to their Energy Balls.
This way, the competition wasn’t just about raw combat power but a combination of many different factors.
All in all, Lin Xinghai felt this Rule was quite reasonable.
At the very least, it was good news for him. Otherwise, finding 50 Energy Balls in a single day would be far too difficult.
One minute after the Military Department sent the message, Lin Xinghai felt his Communication Wristwatch vibrate again.
When he opened the map function on his Communication Wristwatch, he was surprised to see 100 new red dots.
These were, clearly, the real-time locations of the 100 Energy Balls.
For now, the 100 red dots were still scattered fairly evenly across the city center. After all, less than five minutes had passed since the Energy Balls were deployed, so most of them hadn’t changed position by much.
But one spot stood out.
His location, of course. All the other red dots were scattered, but his had a cluster of five, making it impossible to miss.
’The tallest tree in the forest catches all the wind,’ Lin Xinghai mused. ’But I won’t just endure the gales—I’ll send them howling back.’
Without a moment’s hesitation, he sprinted toward the nearest red dot.
At first, the red dot started moving in the opposite direction as he rapidly closed in.
But Lin Xinghai soon noticed something strange. After retreating for a moment, the dot reversed course and began moving toward him.
This surprised Lin Xinghai, but after a moment of thought, he figured out why.
The red dots didn’t show anyone’s identity, meaning no one knew who was holding the five Energy Balls.
Perhaps, at first, his opponent was startled when they saw the cluster of five Energy Balls.
But upon seeing his Speed, they would realize the person with five Energy Balls was a Speed-type Superpower User. They would assume he had simply used his Speed to get a head start and snatch them up.
And just like that, his perceived threat level would plummet.
More importantly, if he was rushing over that fast, his "teammates" would surely be left behind.
Ultimately, they would only have to face a single Speed-type Superpower User.
Under those circumstances, it was no surprise that they suddenly decided to approach him.
And that was indeed the case. The first reaction of 99% of the examinees in Dong’an City, upon seeing someone collect five Energy Balls so quickly, was to be shocked.
However, once Lin Xinghai took off at full Speed, it was only natural for them to assume, ’This person only managed to grab so many Energy Balls because they’re fast.’
No one would connect this "lucky" individual with Lin Xinghai, the top-ranked person on the Points leaderboard.
After all, everyone assumed that to kill so many Zombies, Lin Xinghai must possess a terrifyingly destructive Attack-type Superpower. The idea of him being a support-oriented Speed-type Superpower User seemed completely out of the question.
So, soon enough, not only the closest red dot but several others in the vicinity also began moving in his direction.
Seeing this, after a brief moment of surprise, a smirk crept across Lin Xinghai’s face.
They all thought he was a fat lamb for the slaughter. ’Their expressions will be priceless,’ he thought, ’once they realize the roles of hunter and prey have been reversed.’
Of course, not everyone thought that way. There were, after all, some who had witnessed Lin Xinghai’s terrifying Speed.
For example, the members of the Celestial Eagle Brigade, whom he had just thrashed.
Right now, they were holed up in a safe house, bandaging their wounded. When they saw the cluster of five red dots on their Communication Wristwatches, their feelings were complicated, to say the least.
"I think I understand what Lin Xinghai meant with his last words before he left," Qiu Liang said with a sigh. "That guy’s ambition is no small thing."
As he watched the other red dots closing in on Lin Xinghai’s position, his expression filled with pity.
